"She'll be fine. After all she’s my sister in law as it were, I wouldn't do anything to hurt her.” He said with a grin.

"Hurt her. Look what you've done to her already!"

  "It was necessary."Collin stated.

  "You son of a bitch!"

"Greg you’re letting your need to sleep with this girl rule your head. I think it's time you left." Collin stated and both guards moved towards him.

"This is going to come back and bite you in the ass Collin..." Greg growled as he turned and barged out the door. He slammed it so hard, he heard a picture within Collin’s office fall off the wall and smash onto the floor.

Greg hadn't even left the corridor when he fired off the text message to his friends. It was time to get Mica and Benjamin out of here. Collin would have to die but he’d no problem with that. The man had manipulated events to work in his favour, caused a war that could inevitably reduce the all ready suffering werewolve populations to unrecoverable numbers. All for his project, his designer monsters that Mica and her baby would bring into this world.

There was a sudden flaring of alarms. Collin and both his guards came rushing from his office.

"What the hell is going on?" Greg asked, looking around believing he just got caught.

"Mica's gone!" Collin's eyes were angry looking as he yelled it.

"How the hell is that possible?" Greg's mind raced to catch up.

  "LT. Adams..." Collin growled.

Walking outside in the fenced in yard Mica breathed the fresh air deeply into her lungs relishing the feeling. With Lea bundled up in her carrier pouch Mica walked to a large open spot and sat down on the green grass. Lt. Adams stood watching her and he smiled as Lea fussed a little. After what Collin did to her she noticed Scott was more protective. Scott had returned to find her on her cot crying. Her clothing tattered and tossed on the floor.

He’d known without even asking, she was sure by the utter rage in his eyes. Twice since then Collin had come to her cell and left her like that. The last time he stayed for hours and she thought she’d rather die than let him touch her again. Now she was sick again and she prayed that it was not because of Collin.

"Mica, will you let me help you?" Scott whispered suddenly bringing her out of her deep thoughts.

"What?” She was unsure of what he was asking.

"Will you let me help you get out of here?"

She stared at him briefly then looked all around. A dozen guards were patrolling the yard and she saw the ten foot high fence with the barbed wire top. The place wasn't Fort Knox, but she knew it had ground sensors, guard dogs and at least three snipers on the roof of the facility as well.

"How can you do that without getting us killed?” She whispered back.

"I have a plan, but you have to trust me."

"Oh and just how do you plan on getting around the guards? It's not as if we can just walk out of here.” She stated.

"Yes we can... actually we'll drive not walk.” He told her and she looked at him confused.

"You need to trust me...do you?” He asked. As she stared at him, she knew that of anyone that she knew right now, he was the only one she did trust.

  "Yes I trust you."

"Good because we are leaving now.” He said and he helped her to stand.

They walked back towards the facility and she knew that there had just been a shift change. That meant no one would be checking in on her for at least an hour. As they made for the compound entrance she saw one of the guards nod his head to Scott. Scott returned the nod and then he veered to the left. Instead of going in, they walked right into what looked like a parking garage.

He popped the trunk of a small blue sedan and looked at her softly. "Climb in and keep Lea quiet. We have maybe five minutes before they notice I didn't go to the elevator with you."

  "But that other guard—"

"Paid off, as I did with three others, now get in."

She climbed into the trunk and felt afraid. Her heart raced in her chest as Scott covered them with a black tarp before closing them in.

The engine turned over and Lea whimpered. Mica stuck her little finger in her mouth to soothe her as the car moved. They didn't make it far when she felt the car slow to a stop and heard Scott talking to two other men. They were exchanging pleasantries and then one of the strange voices ordered him to pop the trunk.

Mica was holding her breath at the 'click' sound of the trunks auto release. The tears built in her eyes as she felt a hand pat over top of her and Lea.

"All's good in here George!” The man’s voice said just a few feet away from her.

"All right you have a good one then Scott, don't forget the card game on Saturday!” She heard as the trunk closed and they were moving again.

Disbelief filled her. The guard knew she was in there, he’d felt her under the tarp. This was way too easy. She stayed in the trunk for what seemed like an hour before the car slowed down. She heard the crunching of gravel under the tires. Then the door opened and the auto click sound of the trunk was heard again. As the canvas came off, she had to blink as the brightness shocked her eyes.

"Come on, it’s safe to get out now." Scott said as he held out his hand to aid her.

  "Thank you!”

The only other thing out here beside wilderness was another car that sat empty in front of the sedan. She looked around the desolate stretch of country road and felt hope fill her for the first time in a long time.

Scott looked at her, his lips turned in a sweet gentle smile that reached his eyes. He was risking his life for them by doing this.

"Scott I will never be able to repay you!” She murmured as he opened the other car door for her.

"You don’t have to Mica.” He told her. “Here I got a car seat for her.”

She strapped Lea into the back and noticed there were bags with supplies for all three of them. Mica knew Scott was not going to leave her. It made her feel glad inside and for a moment it felt as if she’d a future to look forward to.

  Chapter 18

She sat there and looked at him as he walked from the washroom in only his shirt and boxers. He was a fine looking man, with a muscular built. His movements were stealthy and graceful. She could tell he’d been in a rush to get dressed as his shirt was buttoned wrong. Mica smiled as he peeked in the bassinet to check on Lea. The thoughts of Victor came into her head again and she wondered how he’d be with her if he was alive. Her mind played out the scenarios over and over. Although she knew it would not bring him back, it kept her connected to him.

Scott sat beside her on the bed and he tested her forehead again and smiled.

"Your fever seems to have broken. Are you feeling any better?” He asked her.

"I think so.” She said meekly. They had been hiding here for two weeks now and she’d been sick for nearly ten days straight. It was so bad that Scott had to help her hold Lea to her breast to feed her. He’d taken care of the baby during the worst of her sickness. The bond between them was growing and Mica couldn't help the feelings that stirred inside her every time she looked at him.

With a tender smile he brushed the stray lock of hair from her eyes. The feeling sent a rush down her spine. He traced her lips with his finger and she felt herself relax more. Scott was gentle and kind, he protected her and Lea and that meant so much to her. It had been nearly a year since she lost her mate. Her heart ached for Victor everyday, but Scott helped to ease that pain. She needed this, needed to feel loved, secure and alive again. She wanted to forget the pain of Collin forcing himself on her, to forget what he’d done and move on.

"I...” Her words ended as their mouths met. She felt his soft lips part and his tongue slid along hers. It was a nervous kiss, testing slowly to get the feel for her mouth and tongue. They kissed harder and more passionately. Her hands found their way around his neck and the hunger to feel more of him filled her with a ravenous need. The wolf in her wanted to mate.

  They pulled
away to take several laboured breaths as their hands explored each other partially clothed bodies. Her sense of smell picked up on his need and as his hands felt her bare shoulders they shook ever so lightly. A pang of guilt washed over her at having kissed him.

  "I'm sorry...I just can't!” She told him.

"Mica it's okay. I know it's hard for you right now and I can wait. I want to take care of you and Lea, I want you to be my family...I love you both!” He said holding her chin tenderly as he looked her in the eyes.

"Scott...I know.” She loved him too. Yet she couldn’t bring herself to say it. To do so would mean she’d replaced Victor and she couldn’t bring herself to let him go.

Scott laid her down on the bed and pulled her down with him. He wrapped her in his strong arms. The heat of his body as well as the smell of his desire caused her body to reach and she shivered.

  "Are you cold?” He asked.

"A little.” She lied not wanting to tell him he had her aroused.

"Here let me cover you over.” He pulled the blanket over them both and snuggled in closer.

Victor was dead and gone, but as she felt Scott's warm body pressed up to her holding her protectively in his arms, she felt lost inside. Lea depended on her. Mica would ensure Victor's daughter made her way back with the Feral pack where she belonged. But part of her wanted Scott. She needed him to be a part of their lives. He was special to her and Lea and nothing could change that. With that in her head and her heart full of heartache she rolled over and embraced Scott in her arms.

He stirred and opened his eyes, she could see a strange look in them. "You're crying?” He stated. She buried her head into his chest and let him hold her comfortingly.

"It's okay Mica, I won't let anyone hurt you!” He said. He hugged her and kissed her on top of the head. Mica knew he mistook her tears for something else. Nestled in his arms, she allowed sleep to steal her away.

Mica awoke with a start as the sounds of a struggle pulled her from her sleep. Blearily she opened her eyes and as she fought with the covers she smelt blood and wolves...Feral wolves. The bed beside her was empty as Scott was already racing towards the door where the sounds and smells of Karen and a wolf permeated into their room. Scott looked back at her briefly his eyes looked afraid then he turned and grabbed the rifle.

The motel room door opened and she saw Victor standing there. Blood poured from the wound in his chest and head.

"I love you.” He said as blood seeped from his mouth.

"No!” She screamed. She sat up in a cold sweat and heard Lea begin to cry.

"Mica are you all right?" Scott asked as he sat up beside her.

"I had a nightmare.” She sobbed. She made her way out of the bed to get Lea to comfort her.

"I'll get her diapers and wet naps." Scott said as he moved to help her with the baby.

"Thank you.” She said feeling a little overwhelmed by her dream.

"Um Mica...we are out of diapers.” He said.

Mica knew they had no money left as Scott had spent the last he had on this room for the night. Now she’d have to improvise.

"It's okay I can make a diaper from one of the hand towels in the bathroom.” She said with a smile.

"We’re going to need food to and you're going to need more milk and juice.” He said looking worried as he handed her the wet naps.

"I can drink water to keep my milk supply going Scott. I don't need to have milk or juice, it cost too much and we don't have any money.” She tried not to let the worry seep into her voice.

"I have a friend here...we served together years ago.” He told her as he slipped his pants and his shirt on.

  "It's late though?"

"It's okay, he owns and runs a local bar. If nothing else Rudy is dedicated to his work." Scott said with a smile.

"Make sure you lock the door and don't let anyone in. Here take this.” He handed her a handgun.

"Do you think he will find us here?” She asked nervously as she took the weapon from him

"I'm not sure but you can't be afraid to use it if you have to.” He said. He kissed her on the lips before leaving. She stood there stunned for a moment looking at the now closed motel room door. Scott really did love her and fear for him filled her. What if Collin found him? She didn't think she could handle losing him too.

As they pulled into the parking lot of the old looking tavern Victor couldn't help the feelings of anxiety running over him. They had driven over five hundred miles to this small city because of a vision Ajei had. This place was no where’s near the place the bleeping of the small tracking device had last been. Victor believed she may have had a bad vision.

They stepped into the bar and Victor, Frank and Ajei walked to the farthest booth at the back. The place was a rustic watering hole. Its walls looked to have been old barn boards refurbished to suit the country-western feel of the place. The bartender and waitress all wore white Stetsons, the bouncers wore black ones. A large area for pool tables and dart boards dominated the west wall and the bar sat centre of the place in a near horseshoe shape.

It seemed to be running a fair business with a descent amount of people inside. Victor also noticed many of the patrons were already pretty drunk.

"You sure this guy is going to be here?"he asked.

"Yes." Ajei said with a slight smile.

"And he’s our key to getting Mica?"

  "Yes." Frank answered this time.

"You two really need to shorten up those answers some!” He said sarcastically.

"You need to have more faith Victor." Ajei said as the waitress stepped up to them

  "What'll you have?"

"Bring us a pitcher of draft please." Frank told the woman.

Once the waitress had come and gone again with the beer Victor turned his sight on looking the small crowd over. Ajei said it was a big man with short cropped blond hair and grey eyes that they needed to find. He apparently had Mica, but Victor was unsure as to why. No one in here looked like that description.

"So why do you think this guy can help us get Mica back?"

"Because I saw them together in my vision."

"What do you mean together?" Victor asked. His voice not as steady sounding as it should be.

"Victor." Ajei looked at him her eyes so sad looking.

"Ajei answer me!” He demanded sternly as a look passed between her and Frank.

"In my vision, they were in a motel room... it was not clear." Ajei stated cautiously.

  "No!" Victor growled out.

"It's been a year. She thinks you're dead Victor." Frank said softly. The words were trying to sink in but his heart was forcing them not to.

"So this guy... he's just going to volunteer to lead us to her or do we have to force him into it.” He asked. His mood was now darker with a need growing in him to hurt someone.

"You need to be calm Victor. This isn't going to work if you blow a fuse." Ajei warned. Her gaze held his and caused him to shiver.

Victor picked through the bowl of nuts and tried to look relaxed and calm. He knew his muscles were tense and he felt as if he could snap at any moment. Images of Mica with another man filtered into his mind and he felt his fangs painfully erupt out of his gums. It had been a year and he knew she thought he was dead. But still it didn't stop the pain that was growing in his chest at the thought of Mica loving someone else.

"Victor over there by the door." Frank said. Victor saw a man who fit the description walk in. His body language was nervous and he cast a careful look around before he headed to the bar.

The bartender looked up and seemed surprised to see the man. They talked briefly before both went into the back and one of the waitress' came and took over the bar.

"Okay let’s go!" Victor went to move and Frank grabbed his arm.

  "Patience.” He ordered.

"Let go of me!” He growled deeply.

"If you go about this the wrong way Victor Mica could die." Ajei said sol
emnly,

"What....you didn't tell me that." He stared daggers at her.

"We need to move carefully. Follow him from a safe distance and then we will act when the timing is right." Frank said in a calm tone.

Victor relaxed a little and looked between the two of them. He knew they were right, that if he went about this full of rage he could mess it up.

  "All right, what's your plan?"

"We need to see where this motel is, then we wait for them to leave and take your mate back."

"You make it sound so simple."

"If you don't lose your temper it will go smoothly Victor. But if you can't keep it together then things may turn out tragically." Ajei was moving as she told him.

"Come on we should wait in the car before he comes back out of the office. I'll let the rest of the pack know whites going on and make sure they are ready to move." Frank said. He pulled his cell out and made the call. Ten werewolves had come with them. Three from the Feral pack, five from the Valtors and the three newcomers.

  Chapter 19

Scott walked into the room looking a little wet. He carried two large grocery bags.

"Here let me help you." Mica said as she took them from him.

"It's starting to rain out there.” He said with a smile.

"You should get some dry clothes on before you catch a cold." Mica told him. She pulled diapers, wet naps, baby powder and other baby supplies from the first bag.

"I think there should be enough to last us a day or two. I got a loan of cash to keep us going for a little while."

The sudden crashing from the bathroom made them both wheeled around from where they stood by the door. Two large black and grey wolf's came snarling out of the bathroom and now stood between her and Lea. The bathroom window had been open and now as they scented the air Mica felt fear wash over her.

  "Where's the gun!"
