Stupid in love…
“You look so beautiful, baby.” Five-Star eyed me as I came from the hotel bathroom in my lingerie.
He was so handsome with his caramel complexion, green eyes, and deep waves across his head. He didn’t have any facial hair, but it looked good on him.
Five-Star and I met at a prestigious industry party that my associate Nichole and I were invited to, just for being pretty girls on Instagram with a lot of followers. I tell you, social media was a whole job these days. Anyway, anybody who was anyone in music, sports, and television was there, so my young ass was happy to be around.
Leaning up against the wall, I smiled while allowing Five-Star to fully feast on me. My stomach was consumed with butterflies though, because I had something I needed to tell him, and I wasn’t sure of how he’d take it. Five-Star and I had only been together for eight months, but it had been the best eight months of my twenty-year-old life.
Despite his reputation in the media, he was a huge music producer, a sweet man, and he knew how to treat me. He showered me with gifts, trips across and out of the country, and even bought me a lavish three-bedroom condo so I didn’t have to live with my mother anymore. He was damn near perfect. His relationship résumé wasn’t the best, but this relationship in particular was different for him; he told me so.
“Thank you, baby.” I straddled his lap as he removed my robe to get a better look at me. He flipped me onto my back and climbed between my legs, kissing on my collarbone while assaulting my body with his hands. “Wait, Jelani, I have something to tell you.” I held the sides of his face and made him look down into my eyes.
“What’s up?”
“I’m… I’m pregnant.” I spit it out before I was ready to, because I knew if I waited a second longer, I would change my mind. I’d been keeping this secret for two weeks now, and it was driving me crazy.
Yes, our relationship was great, but like I said, we hadn’t been together long enough for a baby. Not to mention Five-Star had three other kids with three other women already, so I knew this wasn’t the greatest news to him, no matter how many times he told me I was different.
This would, too, slow up my aspiring acting career, and I was sure I would be dragged all over the blogs for getting pregnant from a man like Five-Star. Hell, they’d already been ripping me to shreds for allegedly being his ‘girlfriend’. I sometimes hated the celebrity part of this all.
I’d garnered my own small amount of notoriety from urban modeling jobs here and there, but the fame I’d gained from being with Five-Star was triple that. I went from having 300,000 followers on Instagram just off my looks, to having 950,000. No matter how on the low I tried to keep our relationship, people still found out about us. And to make matters worse, his other children's mothers didn’t like me, well two of them, so I was sure this would only add fuel to the fire.
His baby mamas, who were years older than me, would always post things in attempt to upset me, like lying about how they were still fucking him or posting gifts similar to the ones he’d given me. I didn’t follow them bitches, but in the days of social media gossip blogs, you’d see everything, even from people you give no fucks about. Being tagged under the shit didn’t help either.
“I knew something was up with you.” He smiled, catching me off guard. Pressing his lips against mine a few times, he pushed my hair back. “I love you, Blaise, and even though I got other kids, this means a lot to me.”
“Really?” I felt my eyes scanning his face as I waited for an answer. I was so into him that it made no sense.
“Yes, really. I want nothing more right now than for you to have my baby.” He smirked, crashing his lips against mine again.
“You love me?” I quizzed, still surprised by his reaction and the fact that he’d said such a thing.
“I do. I know I ain’t never said it, but I do. We gon’ get married and all that shit.” He grinned widely, so I did the same, feeling much better about everything.
I knew my mother was going to have a damn heart attack when she learned of my pregnancy, because she never approved of me seriously dating Five-Star. She didn’t like the fact that he had a lot of kids by multiple women and that he was seven years my senior. She only wanted me to use him for his money and nothing else. So once I broke the news to her, she would be devastated.
However, I had faith that over time, she would come around, especially because he and I were gonna be a family.
“I love you too,” I finally replied, caressing Five-Star’s face and just admiring everything about him.
I was scared as hell about everything prior to tonight, but of course he made me feel much better.
Just two and a half months later…
Nichole and I were out having lunch, just enjoying the beautiful LA summer weather. She and I weren’t really friends, at least not in my opinion. She was a bit too thirsty, promiscuous, and slightly annoying. We were just in the same industry and kind of always ran into one another, so we somewhat cliqued up. I had a few other associates that I sometimes kicked it with, one being this girl named Priscilla, but Nichole was the most steady at the moment.
“So you know you ain’t gon’ be able to hide this pregnancy forever right, Blaise?” She giggled stupidly.
“Talk a little louder, Nichole.” I rolled my eyes.
This was what I meant about her being irritating. I didn’t want the media finding out I was pregnant, and thankfully, my stomach was still flat as ever. I was still doing modeling jobs too, so my cover-up was safe.
“My bad. But shit, if I were you, I’d be shouting from the rooftops that I was having Five-Star’s baby.”
Nichole had spent the last six months trying to bag a baller on the level of Five-Star, only coming across mid-level rappers and ballplayers. She got a few heavy hitters, but after a couple of fuck sessions or three months of dating, they’d tossed her.
“That’s why we’re two different people.”
Nichole shrugged just as the waiter set down our food, and once she walked off, I bowed my head to say grace.
“Oh my gosh, bitch.” Nichole interrupted my prayer.
“What?” I quizzed, a bit annoyed that she’d busted through on my chat with God. I saw she was staring at her phone, mouth agape, and looking very surprised.
“So Five-Star and his baby mama Tahani are back together?” She was smiling, and I didn’t know why such a comment would be reason for a smile. The
n again, Nichole just loved drama and gossip.
“What the fuck are you talking about?” My face was twisted, so Nichole handed me her iPhone.
On the screen was a post by one of those gossip blogs, and it showed Five-Star getting out of the car. I swiped through to see Tahani get out after him before they both walked into a hotel somewhere in Atlanta according to the caption.
I glanced at my phone and saw it was being blown up with tags from the millions of followers of the blog, making sure I saw that the man I was pregnant by and in love with had humiliated me.
“Girl, I thought y’all were good,” Nichole commented, breaking me from my trance. I’d swiped through the photos countless times.
“Excuse me for a second.”
I got up from the outside table and walked to my Range Rover parked right along the nearby sidewalk. Climbing inside, I shut the door and dialed Five-Star right up. I just knew he would have an explanation for this. He told me he was going to Georgia to start work on this rapper named Relapse’s album but failed to mention that that bitch Tahani would be accompanying him.
“Hello?” he answered, and I could tell he was blowing out smoke.
Holding back my tears because I was trying to keep faith in him, I replied, “What is this shit on the blogs, Jelani? These fucking pictures of you and Tahani?”
“Ain’t nothing,” he responded nonchalantly.
“What do you mean it ain’t nothing? You’re supposed to be away on business, but you take your baby mama who’s been saying that you haven’t stopped fucking her and hates me?” I was shaking at the moment. This couldn’t be real. This had to be a nightmare.
“Look, Blaise, I do whatever fuck I want. Don’t be hitting me up questioning me about shit. It’s best I be single anyway.”
“What?” My voice trembled as tears trickled down my cheeks. I was supposed to be the angry one, so how was he calling the shots?
“Jelani, wait, you—”
“Nah, it’s a wrap with us, Blaise.”
“So you’re going back to Tahani.” I was more so talking out loud, not asking.
Letting my head fall against the headrest, I watched Nichole come to the passenger side of my car and tug on the handle. Thankfully, the doors were locked, so she was still outside.
“I’m doing me, so I’m fucking with who I wanna fuck with depending on how I’m feeling that day.”
“Jelani, we have a baby coming.” I sobbed hysterically, feeling pathetic. How did I go from being the aggressor to the one crying and pleading?
“We don’t have to have a baby coming. You got time to get rid of that, Blaise.”
“I’m not getting rid of shit!” I barked, angry now.
“I bet.” He laughed. “You been waiting to trap a rich nigga, and now you have. I should have never fucked with yo’ ass because I knew what you were on. You can keep all the shit I bought you though. I ain’t tripping.”
I felt my brows furrow because I was floored by his behavior right now.
“You have been fucking her this whole time, haven’t you? Liza too,” I stated more-so than asked.
Liza was his other baby mama that couldn’t stand me. She and Tahani were both in the media like me, just less popular, so that, coupled with me dating their baby daddy brought about the hate.
His first child’s mother, Monique, was the only chill one, and I guess because she was the least known. Like Tahani, she had Five-Star’s baby before he was rich and famous. Only Liza and I fucked with him after he was a big shot.
“You can’t question me no more, Blaise.”
I should have known they weren’t lying about fucking him and him still tricking off, because he’d never defended me publicly when they came for me. I always ignored them, due to me not being one for public spats, but he never once checked them on social media. I guess the fact that he spent a lot of time with me and always said the right things, blinded me from those small red flags. But both them bitches were dumb for fucking with a nigga that was claiming a whole other female and acting like he wasn’t dealing with them.
“You’re really doing this right now.” I sniffled, not ready for the backlash from my mother and the millions of people on social media.
“Bye, Blaise. Don’t hit me up unless it’s about the baby. And I definitely want a DNA test.”
Click.
I stared down at my phone for a minute, then put it on Do Not Disturb because my Instagram notifications were still popping off from people tagging me under the blog post, some saying the rudest shit.
Snapping from my thoughts, I saw Nichole leaning up against my car with her back to me, so I hit the locks. She heard them and quickly climbed in, sighing dramatically since it was pretty toasty outside.
“Damn, hoe.” She reached to blast my air as soon as I cut the car on. “So what he say?” I couldn’t talk at the moment, so I just shook my head. My heart ached, and my stomach felt queasy, much queasier than the God-awful morning sickness being pregnant had brought upon me damn near every day. “Girl, Tahani just posted on her story, a picture of her hugging Five from behind. She got the nerve to put the words Always and Forever on it.”
“I don’t care, Nichole. He ain’t my man anymore.”
“Damn. Well, you better keep that baby, Blaise. It’s every bitch’s dream to get pregnant by a rich nigga, especially one with fame and status like Five-Star.”
Tuning Nichole out, I continued driving, wondering how the hell a dream turned so quickly into a nightmare.
Later that night…
My phone was going crazy on my nightstand, so I turned over in order to see who it was. Not like I was asleep anyway. I’d been up half the night feeling sick to my stomach, with silent tears trailing my face. I was in love with this man and having his baby, yet he threw me away like I was some side bitch he had a one-night stand with. I should have known better though; his reputation with women preceded him.
Looking at my phone, I saw Five-Star’s name on my screen, and even though I wanted to ignore him, I answered because I was unsure of why he was calling me after our conversation earlier.
“Hello?” I tried not to sniffle because I didn’t want him thinking he had me up sobbing over him.
“Aye, baby, did I wake you?” His voice was soft, not like he was trying to whisper, but as if he felt bad for our last conversation.
“What, Jelani?” I whined, covering my eyes and trying to hold my tears in, but it only made my body jerk. I was never this big of a baby, so I guess the heartbreak mixed with the hormones had me tripping out.
“Blaise, baby girl, I’m sorry about the shit I said. I love you, you know that. I just don’t like being questioned.”
By this time, there was a downpour right on my face, but I was too angry and sad to attempt to hide it from him.
“You were in another fucking state with your baby mama! And you admitted to me that you’ve been fucking her as well as Liza, yet all you can say is you’re sorry and you love me?” I was sitting up in my bed at this point.
“You right. I shouldn’t have kept that shit from you. But I love you.”
“Well that doesn’t work for me.”
“You like your life, Blaise? And the nice shit I get for you? All the Chanel, Gucci, boat trips, Patek watches… I could go on.”
“What does that have to do with anything?”
“You stick with me, and I will take care of you. Forgive me for this shit, and let’s move forward.”
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
“Jelani, I—”
“You need me, you love me, and I’m the father of your child, Blaise. It don’t get no better than me. You got me, Five-Star, offering you some shit bitches pray every night for.”
I hated to, and didn’t want to admit it aloud, but he was right…

Three and a half years later…
“Blaise, they’re ready for you.” A P.A. came into the dressing room.
&nbs
p; “Okay, thank you.”
I climbed out of the chair I’d been getting my makeup and hair done in, then took off the white robe wrapped around my body. Under, I had on some jean shorts that fit my frame perfectly, showing off my thighs, and then a halter-top that wasn’t too much.
Today, I was in a music video, and no, I wasn’t one of those hoes dressed scantily clad, shaking their asses right up on the camera lens. I was just gonna be the pretty silent girl who gave the artist random smiles here and there in between lyrics.
After running my fingers through my hair and making sure my thigh high boots were zipped, I exited the dressing room, headed toward the shooting area. Waiting for me was the star, this singer named Logic, and he was smiling hard. He wanted me in his video badly, and since I was still trying to break into the acting industry, I agreed when he let me know it wasn’t anything vulgar.
So far, I’d done a few small-time movies, but I knew if I kept working, I would only continue to level up. There wasn’t a day that went by where I wasn’t plotting or planning on being the next Angela Bassett.
“Blaise.” Logic shook his head in awe. “You’re sure I can’t take you to dinner?” He gave me his sexy grin and rubbed his hands together.
“I have a man, Logic, and you know this already.” I giggled flirtatiously, giving him a wink, just before the director started to call shots.
About twenty minutes in, after getting a few scenes, an entourage of men and a few women entered the building. I watched closely as I sipped on my water, curious, and once I saw who was leading the pack, I immediately wanted to leave.
