Sarah’s heart raced and she was breathless. “John,” she yelled just before the pool was visible. As she beheld the pool she saw his feet enter and saw the splash. She ran and jumped in after him. She swam down some and saw his legs go through the crevice. John had left the promise land.
Sarah swam up to the surface. She gasped for air. She started to sob and a splash of water went into her mouth. She choked on the water as some entered her trachea. She swam underneath the waterfall and then held herself on the ledge. She didn’t have the strength, at least emotionally, to climb up. She hung there for some time. Eventually she climbed up and sat on her perch above the falls, ever watching the waters deep below.
