Bad Advice Page 3

The door opened and she slowly walked towards him with a big smile.

There was something about Ruby Marquis he really liked.

He felt like his heart had somersaulted a few hundred times and his hard on was certainly starting to come back to life.

  Nine

She spent her time in the bathroom furiously trying to hide how nervous she was.

Now she wanted to find the gumption to act chilled and confident in front of him.

  Ruby was fading fast.

But she noticed he smiled and something gave way a little. She didn’t see why she should be so worried. It wasn’t as if she would ever see him again.

Then she felt disappointed and shrugged it off.

‘Hello,’ he said, walking towards her, leaning forward to close the door.

A waft of his scent went up her nostrils and she felt the desperate need to be touched by another human.

  A man.

It had been so long since someone actually held her in their arms.

Instinctively, she reached out and put her hand against his chest then noticed Scottie looked down at her. They kissed. It was slow and tender. She started to feel a little hot, gulping hard.

Then all over a sudden it was like a mad tornado.

They were tugging and pulling at each other’s clothes, while spinning in the room.

Ruby wanted to see the man naked. He pulled and unfastened all her items of clothing, flinging them away.

They both fell to the floor, Scottie now touching and caressing her.

His mouth travelled down her neck as he gently squeezed her bare breasts. Ruby knew her immediate feeling of shyness was creeping in but she focussed on the fact she didn’t care.

This was all about lustful sex with a beautiful stranger who wasn’t really a stranger.

  He was Diane’s cousin.

She shoved that thought to the back of her mind.

‘Oh god,’ she groaned, when she felt his lips on her breasts and pushed her hands through his hair, not wanting him to stop what he was doing.

Then she felt something sticking into her thigh.

He was erect which made her smile.

That morning she’d read a report where twenty per cent of men said they’d faked an orgasm and she was reassured he was certainly happy down below.

Knowing first time sex was always so awful, she wanted to get it over and done with quickly, pulling his lips back to her mouth so she could kiss him.

‘Have you got some protection?’ she asked, sucking on his earlobe.

  ‘Yeah,’ he groaned.

She found herself being pulled up and partially thrown onto the bed. He was strong. Scottie reached into his drawer, pulling out a packet.

For a moment, Ruby couldn’t speak.

He was very well sculptured with muscles and, to her surprise, he had a six pack. Never in her life had she had the pleasure of sleeping with a man whose abs you could see.

She’d been with guys who were very slim, portly or just normal. Her ex was slim but fluctuating depending on stress and work levels.

He always had a four pack, mainly in the fridge.

Ruby didn’t want to think about him again. It would only put her off sex for life, recalling him and that bitch.

‘You have an amazing body,’ she sighed then wondered if that meant he’d be shit in bed.

She’d heard, probably while eavesdropping the young ones talk at work, that men who looked good were never that facilitating between the sheets. They thought they didn’t have to try hard.

‘Thank you. And you don’t look so bad yourself,’ Scottie grinned.

She tried not to look at where he was putting the condom and shifted to the middle of the bed.

Ruby knew her body wasn’t taut, it was soft and round. No one would could ever call her athletic or fit, unless they had partial vision. He was staring.

She didn’t feel self-conscious but wary he was probably used to sleeping with better looking and younger women with toned abs.

‘Where were we?’ he said, leaning over and kissing her gently.

She yanked him down onto the bed and wrapped her arms around his back.

If it was going to be one night of sex, she was going to make the most if it.

He filled her mouth with his tongue and she groaned when he caressed her breast, his fingers travelled all the way down. Eagerly she spread her thighs as he massaged her public bone then gently put a finger inside.

She made sure she gave it a little squeeze so he knew she wasn’t too loose in that area, given her age and pushing out one child.

Then he ran his fingers up and starting rubbing her, which she was a little startled about.

To her that was very intimate. She tried to relax and let him fumble around.

So many times men got it wrong, unless they were told what to do. They twisted and turned it, even rubbing the wrong place. She wondered if that would be a good article to write ‘How to twiddle the nub.’

She wasn’t going to give instructions too early on in the evening.

But she was surprised when he started moving to a rather pleasurable rhythm.

Ruby could tell he was well practised in that area and knew what women wanted.

‘You’re very wet,’ he said into her neck and Ruby gulped hard, knowing she was starting to feel an orgasm build up as her cheeks got hotter.

These were unfamiliar hands on her body, willing her to come.

Half of her wanted to hold on so he didn’t think he was that good.

The other half wanted to let rip.

Scottie was kissing her face and then he looked into her eyes for a moment, planting a passionate one on her lips.

Ruby tried to hold on, but the man’s fingers were pressurising her and she felt the belly busting orgasm happen.

Not knowing if she should pull away and bury her face in his neck, just in case she pulled a silly expression, it lashed through her at full throttle then he went in for the kill.

  Ten

He was so turned on by this beautiful woman writhing underneath him, who just made the sexiest noise as she came.

That just made him bludgeon his way into her soft, wet and hot hole.

Scottie wanted her so badly, he didn’t even wait for her to come down. He knew if he did there was a possibility he might prematurely ejaculate. Grinding his hips into hers, he felt her gently stroke his back then squeeze his arse. He was lost in his thrust, from slow to fast. The man moved at such speed he heard her gasp.

Then he got a ball breaking orgasm, unable to stop humping her until he just plain ran out of energy.

Gently he flopped on top of her, feeling fingers run through his hair, her breath on his neck.

He moved away and noticed she was smiling.

‘That was quite good for a first time,’ Ruby said.

He held his breath for a moment.

The woman was gorgeous while she panted on his bed.

  ‘What were you expecting?’

‘Today? Honestly? A couple of glasses of wine and a slice of cake,’ she laughed. ‘It’s like getting an amazing goodie bag at the end of a party. I’m not complaining.’

‘Why haven’t I met you before?’ Scottie sighed, gently pulling out and lying down, unable to take his eyes off her then smiled.

‘Probably because I don’t usually go out when Diane invites me and for the past two years, I’ve been getting over my break-up,’ she replied and turned to look at him. ‘Do you want me to go now?’

‘What?’ Scottie managed to sit up on his elbow, still trying to catch his breath and shocked by her question. ‘You want to leave me? So soon?’

‘I don’t know what the modern day drill is but isn’t that what happens?’ she replied and he realised Ruby was deadly serious, looking a little confused then embarrassed. Scottie’s heart squeezed for her seeing she was being totally sincere. ‘I’m not very good at this.’

‘I think you were amazing at it
,’ he said, letting out a lustful sigh. ‘We’ve cut to the chase. Had something that might take a few weeks or months to build up to in the first few hours of meeting. Why don’t we go backwards and talk?’

Ruby sat up with a sheet across her body and laughed.

‘That sounds like a good idea,’ she said and stroked his face.

He didn’t know what happened but there were tingles when she touched him.

‘I do need to be clear on a few things,’ she said, staring straight at him. ‘I’m not into having a relationship. That’s just a big ‘no, no’. I also think you’re not into that either, am I correct?’

Not wanting to show how relieved he was on hearing her say it, he nodded, glancing away.

‘This is just a bit of fun?’ she continued. Scottie wondered if his perfect woman might be sitting right next to him. ‘And we keep this to what it is, which is two people talking, having fun and sex.’

It was like a little electric bolt in his chest when he heard her say it.

‘If that’s what you want,’ he said, sitting up to kiss her gently on the lips. ‘Then that’s fine by me.’

The following morning she was naked beside him.

  They had managed to talk.

He realised she was very good at extracting information and asking questions without saying much about herself. All he knew was that Ruby had been married for a long time and her husband cheated, breaking her heart in the process. Whereas Scottie had skirted around the mothers of his children and generally revealed as much as he could about himself, but still omitting he was in the police.

He knew that piece of information could either turn on or repel.

With Ruby, he wasn’t too sure.

‘Morning,’ she smiled. ‘Did you sleep well? I like your bed. It’s very comfy.’

‘Morning Ruby,’ he said, moving closer and kissing her cheek. ‘You can stay as long as you like in it, if it makes you happy.’

‘I better go,’ she sighed, stroking his face. ‘Thank you for a wonderful night.’

‘I was good,’ he said with a grin as she nodded.

  ‘You were amazing.’

  ‘And so were you.’

He watched her push down the covers and walk out of the bedroom into the corridor.

Scottie couldn’t fathom why any man would want to sleep with someone else when they had her.

She was funny, attentive and smart as well as being honest about anything that came into her head. Plus Ruby had a gorgeous, womanly body that was slim but curvy and amazing breasts. Her skin was soft and, for him, she was damn good between the sheets.

He could only imagine the amount of trouble she got into with Diane, who was so politically correct to the point of infuriating. He could see she was pretty mischievous, willingly winding up his older cousin.

  Scottie liked that.

And she liked his local Indian takeaway that literally fed him on a daily basis, when he was too busy at work.

More importantly, she laughed at his jokes and funny witticisms.

It’s as if he’d always known her and that was wonderful in itself. He didn’t have to pretend to be anything he wasn’t.

Except for the police bit, everything was brilliant.

Ruby was perfect then he shook his head.

He couldn’t even contemplate having a relationship. Scottie was focussing on his career which would soon orbit him into another dimension.

Relationships and his job never went hand in hand.

He always put the force first and always would.

‘Ah well,’ he groaned, flinging back the duvet, smelling the sweet and musky scent of sex. ‘Another time and another place.’

  Eleven

‘Mum!’ shouted Theo as he ran out of the car and into her waiting arms. ‘I’m back!’

‘Yes you are!’ Ruby said, missing her son so much as she hugged him fiercely. Pushing him away a little, she examined the beautiful bronzed child. ‘I’m pleased you’re home. I was that bored I even played on your games consul.’

She was met with an unimpressed glare.

‘You didn’t delete anything?’ he asked accusingly, his brown eyes focussing on her.

‘I’m very good, that’s all you need to know. I have my own slot so nothing of yours was deleted.’

Ruby kissed him on the cheek then the child walked into their house.

For a moment she recalled her weekend and Scottie.

She couldn’t remember feeling so elated for ages and desperately wanted to see him again. There was no need to impress him. He was so down to earth. That made her feel comfortable.

Not like Hugh who, at the time all those years ago, she wanted to make out she was something she wasn’t.

Then it crossed her mind maybe that’s where it went wrong between them.

She saw him, standing by the boot of the car, getting Theo’s bag out.

Hugh, though he was her bastard ex-husband, looked gorgeous as per usual. His tan was dark and golden. His grey strands, through his light brown hair, seemed to have gone golden then he flashed a smile.

‘Hello,’ she said as he walked towards her.

It was times like this she felt the real pain of their break up. She never knew whether to put her hand out to shake his or turn her cheek for a kiss.

Or just punch him hard on the nose.

Hugh bent down and kissed her face.

‘He was perfect and great company,’ announced Hugh. She let out a small sigh of relief. ‘Missed his mother a few times but all in all, he’s a good kid. Credit to you, of course.’

‘Why are you being nice?’ she frowned, looking up into his hazel brown eyes and being met with a little sneer. ‘Did you get all the papers? They came last week.’

‘We are officially divorced. That’s what you wanted so you should be happy,’ he said, dropping his nice mask.

‘You got caught screwing in our bedroom,’ she whispered. ‘That didn’t make me happy and now we can both legally move on.’

Hugh’s face was like stone as he shrugged off the comment, shouting out, ‘Theo, I’ll see you at the weekend!’

‘I thought you’d want a weekend off?’ Ruby replied, only to be met with an annoyed glance.

‘I want to be with him all the time. Just because we’re not together doesn’t mean I don’t want to spend time with my son,’ he said sharply and she knew, even though he was a wanker, he loved Theo.

That was the most important thing.

He wasn’t prepared to just walk away from the child and she loved him for that. Thought there was a few months after they parted ways, he had let his son down.

Now the man even got an apartment ten minutes away so he wouldn’t lose contact.

‘I know you want to be with him,’ she said and, instinctively, stroked his arm. His face softened. ‘Sorry.’

‘Ruby, you know I still love you,’ he whispered. ‘I made a terrible mistake and I’ve suffered too. You’ve got the divorce and I think we should start building bridges.’

She closed her eyes for a moment, hearing Theo stomp around the first floor then smiled.

‘When you stop trusting someone, it’s not about making them suffer. It’s about learning to trust them again. Had it been anyone else, I think I would have reconsidered splitting up. But it was her. That, I will never forgive you for.’

  Twelve

‘And you didn’t get her number, this woman you met and instantly fell into bed with a fortnight ago?’ Sebastian asked. Scottie grimaced at his best friend, whose barrister’s wig had been thrown across the room so it landed on the seat next to him. ‘And they think you’re the cream of the police force? Seriously? I’m surprised you solve any cases.’

‘I could ask Diane but then, I don’t want her to know I slept with one of her work colleagues. She’d hate that. I know her name and I…’ Scottie sheepishly looked away. ‘I even tried to look her up but there’s no trace, not even a parking ticket.’

  Sebasti
an started to laugh. He took off his gown and promptly dumped it on the desk. Scottie smiled at his tall friend, who was slim and handsome, with piercing blue green eyes and equally sharp cheek bones. His mop of curly blonde hair was now being let loose as he ran his fingers through it.

‘A one night stand, so let it go,’ sighed Sebastian, walking towards a bottle of scotch in the corner of the room. ‘Want one?’

  ‘Yeah,’ Scottie miserably replied.

Within moments he was handed a glass. Sebastian shook his head from side to side.

‘That bad?’ his friend asked. Scottie nodded. ‘It’s not like you, to let someone slip through your fingers.’

‘Oh god, the sex was amazing. And she’s really funny and smart. I thought it’d be a one night stand but the thing is, the following day, we went out for brunch and it was really good to talk to someone. She listens and I just blab on.’

Sebastian sat opposite him in an arm chair and continued to shake his head from side to side.

‘That’s what these bloody do gooders are trained to do, listen. But you didn’t tell her who you are?’ his friend asked quietly. Scottie scrunched up his nose to answer ‘no’. ‘Why not?’

‘Diane still doesn’t like it the fact I’m in the force so she asks me not to say. I thought best to keep quiet.’

‘You are, potentially, going to be one of the most powerful people in the Metropolitan Police. Why should you not say? God knows how you got the promotion to Assistant Commissioner of Special Crimes. You look like someone who works on a building site with all your brawn and body art. Not an ordinary good old fashioned bobby.’

‘And with the length of your hair, I’m surprised they don’t ask you to just dye it white and have done with the wig!’ laughed Scottie.

Sebastian flicked his collar length curls and grinned back.

‘Wife likes the Tarzan look,’ he mumbled. ‘When’s the official unveiling of your promotion?’

‘When he retires in about three months. Don’t tell anyone. You know I’m sworn to secrecy. I’m being held hostage in Scotland Yard to get to know how things work. It’s alright. They’ve got a few good pubs around.’
