‘What shall we call her?’ he asked, cradling the baby in his arms. ‘She’s incredibly beautiful.’

‘Takes after you then,’ she sighed. ‘I think we should call her Megan. It’s Gwen’s mother’s name and my mum’s name, Margaret. And it’s pretty. What do you think?’

‘I think that’s perfect,’ he sighed rocking her from side to side, just peering into her face.

‘Megan Marquis-Scott, let me introduce you to your daddy. Commissioner Jonathan Scott, the highest ranking police officer in the Metropolitan Police,’ Ruby smiled as Scottie raised his eyebrows. ‘As was your grandfather Sidney Murray so it runs in the family.’ Hesitating for a moment she then mumbled. ‘But you’re not going into the police.’

  ‘Ruby?’

‘Oh come on! Why can’t I say what I like?’

‘As long as she’s not a scheming journalist, I’ll be happy,’ he whispered as she scowled.

‘Hopefully she’ll be a barrister like her godfather Sebastian,’ smiled Ruby. Scotty started to laugh. ‘Can’t think of anyone else and her godmother, Jacinta, will give her fashion sense as you can’t rely on the Scott family for that.’

‘And her birthday is the 4th of May.’

‘No!’ Ruby said, looking up at him. ‘That’s just ridiculous.’

  ‘Why?’

‘May the fourth? You know? Star Wars? May the force be with you? Just so typical she’d be born on a day related to your job.’

‘Oh yes,’ he said, nodding his head and taking his daughter to the window.

Ruby eyed him up and down, seeing he looked delighted with his new born baby.

Never had she loved him as much as she did right now.

So much so, she was happy for him to change the first nappy, the meconium one.

Reaching over for her tablet, she switched it on to send an email out about their news to their nearest and dearest.

Just then she noticed an article and did a double take.

A man had been killed in Bruges.

He used to work for the Samaritans in the UK and emigrated a few years back. There was something about his chequered past and seducing single middle aged women, taking their money and leaving them high and dry.

Immediately she knew it must be Annette and sat there in shock.

Now with Scottie being the new Commissioner, this was a whole new can of worms to deal with.

Ruby pondered on what to do then fired off an email to just check out what was going on.

She gulped hard and glanced over at her husband and discreetly closed the tablet down, knowing not to say anything, just yet.

That was the best advice she could give herself.

Whether it was good or bad was another thing all together.
