“What’s wrong with us?” I blurted out.
“That shit you pulled today just clarified what I already knew,” he started. I stared at him, and he matched my stare. His eyes were cold, and if I wasn’t mistaken, they held hurt in them.
“And what’s that Kato.” I cut into my steak and before I took a bite, his next words made me drop my fork.
“I think we need to just go ahead and dead this relationship,” he started. It was like hearing nails scratching a chalkboard. Umm, I think the fuck not. He had to be joking right? I started laughing.
“Yeah, that’s a good. No what were you really about to say?” I asked. He just stared at me.
“I just said it. You’re my weakness, my vulnerability and I can’t have that while I’m out here like this.” He crushed my heart with his words. I took a sip of water from glass before sprinkling some on him.
“Montejha,” he started, before I threw the whole glass at him. He ducked, but my food I was tossing at him made it. He stood from the table and I was on him like right on rice.
“You got me fucked up, so what was the point in getting back with me?” I swung on him.
“I told you the next time you hit me I was knocking yo’ dumb ass out. Chill the fuck out,” he barked
“FUCK YOU BITCH ASS NIGGA!” I screamed at the top of my lungs, walking past him making sure to bump into him. He could kiss my fucking ass. I knocked the vase over in the hallway and pulled the mirror off the wall, all you could hear was glass shattering behind me. I saw lights pull into the driveway, but I ain’t give a fuck.
“BRUH WHAT THE FUCK IS.” He walked up on me, and I squared up with him. I ain’t give a fuck right now. I wasn’t thinking, I just wanted to fuck him up. I was literally swinging like Ali, and he was blocking my punches before he grabbed me and slammed me into the wall knocking the wind out of me.
“I TOLD YOU TO STOP FUCKING HITTING ME!” he yelled with this crazed look in his eyes, tightening his grip around my neck attempting to choke me out. I gathered up enough strength to knee him in the groin, and he let go of me, as I fell to the floor trying to catch my breath. The doorbell was ringing like crazy. I ignored it and made my way to the living room with one thing on my mind. Since I couldn’t beat this nigga physically, I was going to fuck his house up. I wasn’t thinking rationally, I’ll admit it. I probably looked crazy yanking his flat screen off the wall. I noticed him making his way to the door.
“Who is that, yo’ new bitch? Let that bitch stay out there so she can hear me commit a homicide.” I rushed to the door. He looked down at me in shock.
“What the fuck is wrong with you, nah. Tejha move from the fucking door.” I slapped him multiple times and started trying to claw his fucking eyes out. He pushed me on the ground and opened the door. I hurriedly got up and unplugged his Xbox.
“Whoever coming in ain’t gone make it out alive just like this sorry ass bitch Kato!” I screamed launching the Xbox at his head.
“What the fuck y’all got going on in here.” Some dude stepped in ducking. I rushed to Kato’s room and was still on a mission.
“Wowww.” I heard.
“Bruh, you got scratches all on yo’ face. Nah, ay shorty. You gone have to bounce outta here, she ain’t gone be doing my nigga dirty like that.” I heard. I took his bat he had in the closet and smashed his flat screen in the room. I bashed the mirror on his dresser, the mirror in the bathroom when he came around the corner looking like Freddie Krueger himself.
“You ugly ass bitch. I didn’t pursue you, you wanted me! You came after me, I told you to stay away from me!” I screamed at him.
“You think this shit easy for me,” he yelled.
“Shut the fuck up, don’t say shit to me.” I tossed the bat at him, and this nigga was on me like white on rice. I instantly started swinging.
“Yooo, come on sis.” I heard Dreux say. Two other dudes came and pulled Khaos hands from around my neck. Dreux pulled me in the corner.
“Get the fuck off me.” I heard Kato yelling.
“Yeah, let that bitch ass nigga go,” I yelled.
“Come on lil sis, this ain’t you.” Dreux tried to calm me down.
“No, no. I don’t wanna hear shit. ‘cause I didn’t want this nigga, he wanted me. He wanna get me pre.” I stopped myself as it all became clear to me. Bitch, your pregnant ass is in here acting a donkey. Just that quick I forgot, just that quick and I piped all the way down. Looking around the room, it looked like a hurricane hit. I huffed and shook my head. His house was fucked up.
“What? You good Tejha?” he asked.
“Yeah, yeah. I’m fine. You’re r, you’re right. Just let me grab my purse and stuff,” I told him.
“Y’all good in here.” Some tall, dark-skinned man came in here and asked. I had never seen him before, and he was irritating me.
“Yeah, we good. Who the fuck is this nigga Dreux,” I snapped. Dreux put his head down and started laughing.
“Come on sis, you gotta chill.” He chuckled. Dreux grabbed my shoes, and I quickly put them on walking out the room.
“But this is exactly why he said this had to happen. It’s a distraction.” I heard someone say. I walked out and kept my mouth closed as bad as I wanted to spaz out on Kato’s dumb ass. I walked back in the kitchen to grab my phone, and purse and car keys. I walked out and stood right in front of Kato. He just stared at me expressionless, looking at his face I instantly felt bad but fuck that.
“Nice to meet you,” irrelevant ass nigga number one said. I ignored him and spoke directly to Kato.
“I don’t know what I did to you besides love you the best way I knew how. I don’t know why I expected more from you than this, but it’s okay. I’ll pay you for all the damages I’ve caused, but when I walk out this door Kato.” I paused, pointing at the door.
“There’s no coming back, Kato. Not after all this blow over, or none of that. When I walk out this door, I’m walking away from us for good,” I told him. He got up off the wall, and I stepped back, just for a good five seconds getting happy. Thinking maybe he was going to fight for us, fight this dark cloud that was hanging over our relationship. But that dream came crashing down when he opened the door for me to walk out. I nodded, holding my head high walking to the door.
“When it’s all over with, I’ll come back and claim what’s mine. But Tejha I wouldn’t forgive myself if something happened to you ‘cause of me,” he told me. I shook my head.
“I won’t be waiting for you when you come trying to find me, we gone be good without you. Thanks a lot, for breaking my heart. Again.” I walked outside.
“Tejha, Montejha!” he yelled my name out, but I couldn’t look back because the tears I held in, were flowing freely. I heard him before he came by my side whining. I quickly wiped my face.
“I’m taking Rosco with me!” I yelled at him letting Rosco in my car before climbing and speeding away from his home with urgency. I was so done with Kato Leon Karter it wasn’t even funny.
KAIYANI | TIRED OF BEING LONELY
*Three Months Later*
“I’m so happy you’re back in town. I’ve been so bored and lonely,” I told Tejha.
“I’m happy to be back as well. I wish you come with me one of these days.”
“I just might,” I told her.
“Girl please, you ain’t leaving Dreux ass.” She giggled.
“I’m on the verge. Girl, ever since they linked up with the Kato’s family and it’s been a mess ever since. I’m just proud of how you been going back and forth building your clientele up there and down here. Your skin glowing, you gaining a lil weight, hair, and edges on point, like just flourishing.” I smiled.
“Thanks, Yani. I’ve been trying I really have.” We pulled up to the gas station, and Tejha got out. I was pumping gas while she walked in the store.
“Now someone as beautiful as you shouldn’t be pumping gas,” some fine as bright nigga came and said.
“Excuse me.” I frowned.<
br />
“You heard me ma, what’s yo’ name?” he asked.
“My name is taken. Happily,” I argued.
“Damn, yo’ man don’t let you have friends?” he asked.
“No, sorry he doesn’t. He also doesn’t like for other men to be in my face,” I told him.
“Oh, so you got you a possessive nigga?” he asked.
“Watch yourself,” I told him. I went to hang my handle up and screw my cap back on.
“My bad shorty, I ain’t mean no harm.” He threw his hands up.
“Just move around.” I shook my head.
“I can’t when I see something I want, I’ma go for it. Whenever yo’ nigga acting up, or he ain’t around. You can call me.” He handed me his business card. I laughed at him, ripped it into two and walked past him getting in my car. Tejha came in the car shaking her head.
“What’s wrong with you boo?” I asked.
“Girl, guess who I ran into?” she said as I pulled off.
“Who?” I asked.
“Girl, remember the guy from the club, I’ve been sort of keeping in touch with,” she started.
“Oh, um Fab. Yeah, I remember. I didn’t know y’all was still talking?” I asked her.
“Yeah, something like that. Well, he was in there, talking about how he was mad that I didn’t call and tell him I was in town. We supposed to link up while I’m in town,” she said.
“Link up? Do you even know him to be linking up with him?” I asked.
“Nope, but that’s why I’m meeting him at a restaurant. Somewhere in the public where I can eat.”
“Girl, you are funny as hell. Just be careful with him. I already told you how I felt about him,” I told her.
“I know I know, you don’t get good vibes from him. But you didn’t get vibes from Kato, she started.
“And look where we are now,” I told her. She nodded.
“Yeah.” She huffed, and it got really quiet. I dropped her back off at home, so she could get her car. She said she had plans to snuggle tonight with Rosco in her bed and that’s what she was going to do. She followed me back to my house. As we pulled up to me and Dreux new home and we hurriedly walked in. Walking in we could smell the good cooking from the kitchen. I took my shoes off and put my slippers on walking to the kitchen.
“Hey my baby, y’all back already?” she asked.
“Yes mom,” I said, she was frying chicken, with some mashed potatoes and green beans. She even had her crescent rolls in the oven, I couldn’t wait to tear my food up.
“Y’all come on and eat. I been waiting to see you anyway Tejha,” my mother said. We hurriedly set the dinner table and made our plates. After my mother prayed over the meal, we dug in making small talk. My mother had practically moved in with Dreux and I. Between my business growing more and more each day, coming home and being lonely as hell, I could use my mother’s company. Montejha was commuting back and forth from home to Memphis, and I lowkey think she’s trying to move out there. She loved it too much, but I didn’t want my friend to leave me here all alone. I also knew that she was really hurt behind Kato breaking up with her. When Dreux told me how she had lumped that nigga up, I couldn’t help but to feel for my friend.
“So, Tejha. You talked to your mother lately?” my mother started.
“No, not since that day I told you about,” she answered.
“Well, when you plan on talking to her? I saw her the other day, and she looked so hurt when I told her how I had just talked to you,” mom said.
“I plan on going by there tomorrow,” Tejha said.
“Mhmm, you need me to go with you?” she asked.
“No, I’m sure I can handle it.” Tejha laughed. It was an awkward silence for a moment. I was tearing my chicken up.
“On another note, you’re glowing.” My mother smirked.
“I know right mom, isn’t she? You must’ve switched up your skincare routine like you kept saying.” I started sipping my wine.
“You wanna tell her or should I.” My mother smiled hugely.
“Tell who what?” Dreux walked in the house saying. Shortly after, Kato and Zu were right behind him. I instantly rolled my eyes.
“Ma, what you else you cook for me. This chicken good.” Kato walked his fat ass in the dining room with a piece of chicken from the kitchen. When he saw Montejha, he damn near choked on his chicken.
“Hey.” Montejha gave a fake smile.
“Where y’all come from? It’s some leftovers in there, but they’re for Montejha an—” my mother started.
“My mother as well. She’s going to want a plate,” Montejha interrupted her, while my mother side eyed her. They were acting weird as fuck right now, but I would address it later.
“Y’all interrupting our girl’s night,” Tejha nonchalantly said.
“I need to holla at you.” Kato started his bullshit early.
“About what?” she frowned, asking.
“I ain’t trying to argue with you, I just want to talk to you.” He stared at her. It was so quiet, you could hear a pin drop. Tejha stood up and pulling her huge pink sweatshirt down. She walked into the living room, and he quickly followed. I walked upstairs to go to the bathroom, I knew Dreux was going to follow behind me like always.
“What’s with the attitude?” he asked.
“I don’t have an attitude,” I told him, flushing the toilet after handling my business. I washed my hands while he sat there staring at me.
“What’s the problem now Kai Kai? Damn.” He huffed.
“I just said nothing,” I told him, trying to walk out the bathroom. He put his arm up.
“You don’t even greet me when I walk in the house no more. Damn, the fuck I do to you?” he asked.
“Nothing happened Dreux, nothing at all,” I told him, shrugging my shoulders.
“Every time I come in this house, you fucking bitching,” he snapped.
“Well then maybe you should stop coming in the house so late,” I snapped at him.
“Maybe I should stop coming in this bitch period,” he tossed back.
“That sounds like an even better idea, now can you move out of my way.” I walked past him and into our bedroom.
“We have this same argument every time. I don’t get what you’re not comprehending me,” he started with so much aggression in his voice. See he had to be tough out there all day, or days at a time with no sleep. Then when he gets home he expects me to be all lovey-dovey, I’m not with that shit. I told him he needs to stop running the streets with his niggas and he snapped off on me every time.
“Don’t talk to me like I’m stupid,” I told him.
“Well then stop acting stupid,” he barked. I exhaled loudly and sat on the bed. I took a few deep breaths because half of me wanted to cuss him out for coming at me the way he was, but the other half that was head over heels in love with this man was telling me to try this conversation a different way.
“Dreux, I don’t want to argue with you. I don’t want to fight with you, I don’t wanna do the name calling bickering back and forth. I just wanna love you, I wanna lie under you, listen to your heartbeat every night. I’m sorry if I’m pressuring you to get out of that lifestyle. I understand I need to back off and let you do it at your own pace. But I worry about you every second that you’re away from me. Because I don’t wanna lose you, you’re my everything, and I would never be the same if something happened to you,” I cracked. Staring up into his beautiful brown eyes peering down at me, he leaned down and pecked me on the lips before collapsing on top of me.
“DREUX!” I shrieked.
“I love you, baby. I know you love a nigga, but you just gotta give me time,” he said into my ear.
“Okay, now get yo’ big butt off me,” I told him.
“Nah, I’m good.” He picked me up underneath him and dragged us to the head of the bed. He kept kissing me softly.
“I be missing you underneath me like this. I know Kato, your boy and all but ever since h
im and Tejha broke up his ass wanna try and have you out like you single. I told him about that,” I snapped. He started cracking up.
“Yo ass just like that man. That nigga is my brother no doubt about it. But I’m a grown ass man, I move when I’m ready to,” he stated.
“Oh, so you like going out of town on business trips with him for days weeks at a time?” I asked.
“Nah, it’s like a catch twenty-two. I have to go, I already lost one brother, if something happened to my nigga and I ain’t have his back I would be fucked up.” He yawned. I rubbed my hands through his head.
“Yeah whatever you say Dreux,” I told him. He just mumbled something, laying on my boobs. I reached for his phone that I knew was in his pocket. Unlocking it, I pulled up his Facebook because it was entertaining. He was friends on here with so many people and the stuff I saw on his newsfeed was crazy as hell.
“Babe,” I called out when I heard him start snoring. Shaking my head, I locked his phone up and reached for the remote finding something to watch while he got some Z’s in.
KATO | HANDLING BUSINESS
A lot of shit had changed. After losing my nigga Q, I was on a fucking witch hunt in the city. I had bread on so many niggas heads, they couldn’t even wipe they ass good without a nigga calling me telling me they spotted them. I was doing what I had to do in order to get to the bitch that was behind all of this shit. I wanted to off her ass so bad, I couldn’t do shit else until I did. She had brought too much shit to me and my camp. We were good without all this bullshit, but these motherfuckers brought it to me, so I was going to handle it. Losing Q made me changed the way I moved drastically. It was as if a switch went off in my head, I was like a silent assassin. Niggas didn’t know who was painting the city red, they just knew it was red, and I liked it that way.
