by Sylvia McDaniel

“Carrie got caught with an outlaw," her mother said while cooing at her grandson. "The poor girl’s mother is beside herself. That girl always had a wild side."

"What? Carrie was the most boring girl. If she has a rowdy side, its only recently come out. And good for her. She needed to bring some excitement into her otherwise dull life."

"Daisy," her mother said, "are you condoning her lack of morals?"

"No, I'm condoning her happiness. I hope she's found someone who makes her happy."

“That’s not what happened. No happy ending for her.”

That was sad and she wondered how her friend was doing.

When she glanced out the window, a wicked idea formed in her head. "Hold William a little longer. There's something I need to tell my husband."

She knew it was wrong. That this was not the time to tell him, but she wanted to catch him completely unaware.

"Lee," she called. He glanced down from the top of the ladder at her.

  "Yes," he said.

  "I'm pregnant again."

For a moment, she feared he would fall off the ladder, but then he slowly came down the steps until he stood beside her.

  "You're what?"

"We're going to have our second baby next March."

Laughing he picked her up, kissed her fully on the mouth and twirled her around. "I'm so happy."

She giggled. "I like this reaction much better than how you responded last time."

"That man was a fool," he said with a laugh. "Just think, more diapers, more not sleeping at night. And more love than a house can hold. Thank you, love."

"You're welcome. Now get back to building our house. We're soon going to have toddlers running around."

  He grinned and walked away.

The debutante had gotten her revenge by having a happy home filled with love. What more could she ask for?

Look for a new Holiday Debutante’s story in December. Daisy’s friend Carrie is getting her own story. Thanks for reading!!

  Dear Reader,

I’m from Texas. In fact, I grew up near Sweetwater, Texas home of the rattlesnake round-up and rodeo. No, I don’t like rattlesnakes. Now, I live in Colorado, not too far from where my grandfather was raised. The history here is just as exciting as Texas history and I’m enjoying getting out and learning about the area. I’m hoping you’re enjoying the debutante’s. Next up is Carrie’s story. Look for it in December.

If you’re inclined, I would appreciate it if you left a few words about the book on your favorite retailer including Bookbub.
