  Chapter 14: The True Prophecy

Dios, Aurum and Nase were in the camp while Renmar, Vester and Felip waited as back-up. Cullen stayed in the camp as the mind-link so that they could coordinate with the other forces in case things got dicey.

“I can’t believe we are trying to get in when we worked our butts off to get out.” Nase whispered to the two others.

Dios tried to shush Nase who also stopped talking when they heard someone talk behind them, “Welcome back, soldiers of Nevernight. We have been waiting for you.”

Before the Nevernight soldiers could grab anyone of them, Felip’s sword already pierced through one of the soldiers, Vester had sent a sound bomb in the other and Renmar had cut the throat of the third one.

“You guys suck at being spies so hard.” Renmar shook his head and led them all to the camp’s power box.

Felip placed the clocked explosive underneath the box and they all used the shadows to get back outside of the camp.

A loud explosion signaled the queen’s guards that it was time to go inside the camp.

At dawn, Pina Tuvo was on his knees in front of Queen Raina.

“You foolish man, taking the prophecy and twisting it to your liking. We Estelians have a prophecy of our own, something that talk about the combination of the light and the darkness, the balance of the day and the night. We didn’t come to your land to take everything from you. We wanted to live together but your chieftains didn’t want to give up their cannibalistic ways and so the people had no choice but to side with my ancestors.”

Aurum didn’t know about the practice that was part of Nevernight’s traditions.

“You lie to distort history, you witch!”

Queen Raina gave Aurum a necklace that she was wearing, “This would give you the gift of sight and the power to free spirits. Fulfill your destiny, fate one. Aurum, the shining light of Nevernight, breaker of chains, and beloved of the dragon, raise the souls of those in the darkness and shine the light in all of Nevernight and Estelia.”

Aurum touched the necklace’s pendant and the words came to her mind. “Feel me now, you whose life ended in tragedy. Lift your soul bound on Godsgrave and enter Nirvana. Find the flow of the lifetimes you were deprived by the darkness. Let this be the day you ascend to the heavens.”

Everyone felt the gush of the wind that started to swirl around Aurum. She released an immense amount of energy and then fainted. Dios quickly raised her up and hugged her.

Then one by one the wind became howls of spirits rising from the ground. There were spirits of children, women, men and animals. A large dragon spirit rose from the ground and looked down at Dios. It flew towards the prince and entered his body. Dios shouted in pain then fainted too.

Everyone could not believe their eyes. Pina Tuvo was faced with his worst fears. The prophecy he had prevented to happen was flowing up to the heavens. Without the bound spirits in Godsgrave, the Earthen tribe was powerless. They had taken their powers from the many lives taken in sacrifice. Even the great dragon spirit had found its new vessel. All was lost.

“Tell me where you took our lost boys and I shall not behead you.” Queen Raina looked like she was ready to kill him.

“I will not speak of it. I would rather lose my tongue.” Pina Tuvo thought she was too merciful to even do it.

“Take his tongue then.” Queen Raina told a guard then said to Nase, “Mind reader, take all the information you need and to it…painfully.”

“My pleasure.” Nase was a nice guy but when it came to people who torture others, his teacher did tell him of a spell that would make them give up information at all costs.

The kingdom of Estelia gained Godsgrave and Nevernight Island that day. They also set out the new mission of bring back the island dwellers into the kingdom’s embrace. Queen Raina realized that their isolation had left so much negative effects on their people’s health and welfare. She set out to correct all the ills the former kings did to the islanders.

Prince Dios and Princess Aurum decided that moving to Godsgrave was the best thing to do. They could fix the machine that was there and set up their mission to rescue the lost boys of Estelia quickly.

“We can do it ourselves.” Felip said one day. “You have a more difficult task ahead of you.”

“What task is that?” Dios asked him.

“You need to produce an heir. I heard it’s a challenging endeavor. It requires a lot of stamina.” Nase teased Dios.

“She won’t even sleep in the same bed with me.”

Vester smiled at Dios, “That’s because you treat her like she is the boss. You are her equal. You can’t have a marriage if one of you is just following the other one like a puppy.”

“Good luck, dragon prince.” Cullen winked at Prince Dios.

Dios looked at Aurum who was busy adjusting the gears on a part of the machine. He rubbed his palm on his chest and said, “Be brave.”

  Conclusion

I’d like to thank you and congratulate you for joining Aurum on her journey.

I hope this book was able to help you to find the courage to live a full life.

The next step is to begin your own courageous story of survival.

I wish you the best of luck!
