  The box wasn’t locked. She opened it and a metallic gunpowder smell hit her nostrils. Shelby’s eyes widened in astonishment. Lying on top of purple velvet padding was the prettiest gun she had ever seen.

  This gun was sweet and small and pink. There was a raspberry hue to the gun’s body with shimmery flashes of turquoise. Shelby lifted the weapon from its velvet bed and held it in her hand. Amazement radiated through Shelby. It felt like a warm glow grasping her soul. The gun was a perfect fit as her fingers wrapped the handle. When she turned it around, the iridescent shine flashed like a rainbow.
