by A P Gore

He was drooling with greed when a phantom of the Divine Worms appeared next to him, and golden and black threads shot from their bodies.

“Wh—” Before Wei could get even a single word out, the threads had split the beast in half and sucked it dry.

  What the fuck?

  Chapter 64 Path of Immortality

Something cold fell on Li Wei’s nose, bouncing and entering his parched lips. That little bit of moist sensation sent a waking signal through his mind.

When he opened his eyes, his shabby room welcomed him. The fragrance of wet soil and rain hung in the air, and he could see drizzle outside through the holes on his roof.

It was kind of the same feeling he’d gotten when he’d reincarnated.

He sighed in his heart. It was good to be back in his room. Although shabby, it was his room. He had a strong sense of belonging here.

Briefly, he forgot everything that led to this moment, losing himself in the memories of his past. But that tranquility was disturbed when he heard footsteps running toward his room, and when he spread his divine sense, he sensed Fei’er, a hundred feet away, running toward him.

Strange. How could his hearing have improved?

Pushing his palms on the ground, he tried to get up, but a sharp pain reverberated through his body, and he lost the will to rise. Only then did he realize his body was wrapped with soft white bandages, and lingering pain pulsed through every inch of his flesh.

“Young master, you’re awake,” Fei’er’s warm voice reached his ears, swiftly followed by her icy orchid fragrance. Then the little lass’s dainty face leaned over his body. “Thank heavens. I’ve been praying for you day and night.” The corners of her eyes turned moist, and she choked on emotions.

  “F—”

“Don’t speak, you’re too weak. Look what I got from old master Shua. A Flesh Nourishing Pill. He said you can eat it once you are awake.” She pushed the tiny blue pill into his mouth and forced it down his throat.

Wait. He didn’t need that pill. But before he could speak, the pill had entered his stomach, and a refreshing medicinal energy spread through his body.

Closing his eyes, he spread his divine sense inside his body, investigating his current condition. A moment later he opened his eyes in shock. How could this be true?

  “Young master, did it work?”

Saying nothing, Wei closed his eyes again and began refining medicinal efficacy from the pill while his divine sense inspected every inch of his body. This was shocking. When did he reach layer two of body Foundation Realm?

He quickly checked his dantian, but as expected, the tiny bit of qi he had cultivated had vanished. That meant he had descended back to layer one of qi Refinement Realm. Although he didn’t need to do qi initiation again, he would expend twice the effort to cultivate back to his previous state. But that was fine, as he was only at layer two qi Refinement Realm before using the forbidden technique.

But breaking through Foundation Realm in body cultivation. How did this happen?

When he used the dual boost from the forbidden technique and Primal Blood Manor, his body cultivation had jumped to layer eight Refinement Realm. So, even if it didn’t descend back to layer one, he shouldn’t have broken through and opened his Taiyang of bladder meridian.

In Blood Essence Body Cultivation Art, every realm required him to open two meridians in his body. The Refinement Realm opened the Yangming of stomach and Taiyin of spleen meridians. Those belonged to the Earth Constellation of the human body. The Foundation Realm opened the Taiyang of bladder and Shaoyin of kidney, making the Water Constellation. Bone Baptization Realm, in body cultivation, would open the remaining two meridians of his lower body, Jueyin of liver and Shaoyang of gallbladder. Once he completed the Wood Constellation, he would have had mastered the whole lower body Constellation, and that’s when he would learn the first major divine ability associated with Blood Essence Body. This was another reason he had chosen this cultivation art. It had innate divine abilities that other body cultivation arts lacked.

For initial levels, Blood Essence Body didn’t supercharge his activities or make his skin tough like iron. It only provided him raw strength and healing ability. But it had special constellations he could get help from. Now that he had completed the first Constellation, he could get help from the earth to enhance his strength—something he would have to dig deeper for inside himself.

Sighing in his heart, he spread his divine sense into his meridians. Although he had broken through the Taiyang meridian, his internal organs were still in disarray, and the blood pearls inside his body only numbered about two hundred. To reach peak physical condition, he had to condense twelve hundred blood pearls. Although every realm had nine layers, the start of the next realm could be counted as the tenth layer. So, his body should have condensed one thousand blood pearls when he broke through to body Foundation Realm. There was one more thing he noticed: His blood had thickened. It had lost its thin, watery state and turned into a thick liquid. Every blood drop looked much bigger than what he’d had in Refinement Realm.

His heart raced with excitement. Once he regained his vitality, his every punch could exert over one thousand pounds of strength. He could hardly wait to test it out.

This new knowledge came from the depths of his mind. Some cultivation arts were like this. Unless one cultivated it to a certain stage, they wouldn’t receive thorough knowledge.

Anyway, getting back to peak condition seemed like a tedious task, and heaven knows how many months he would need. Although the Flesh Nourishing Pill was good medicine, for him it only mended some parts of his flesh. His vitality would recover once he regained at least half of his total blood pearls.

“Fei’er. How did I get here?” He groaned in pain. Just getting these four words out made his mouth dry and his body quiver. “How long have I—” He stopped and took a deep breath. “I was unconscious?”

  “Yes, for five days.”

A firm knock sounded on the door, followed by his grandfather Shua’s old figure slowly walking into the room. Surprisingly, he smiled, and his cultivation had reached layer four of qi Foundation Realm.

“Grandfather, how did you regain your cultivation?” Wei couldn’t resist asking.

“It was all thanks to your master. If he hadn’t taught me the secret art, I wouldn’t have gone a step forward into Bone Baptization Realm. After regressing to the bottom, I gained comprehension about the path forward, and using Foundation Refirming Pills, I broke through easily. If I get a few more pills, reaching the peak of Foundation Realm won’t be difficult.” Grandfather Shua’s face turned grim. “But I don’t know what happened with your master. I hope he survived.”

  “What really happened?” Wei frowned.

“Shouldn’t you tell me that?” Grandfather Shua squinted; his eyes full of suspicion. “I don’t even know when or how you rushed in there to save your master. When the bright light ended, we found your naked body lying on the ground with a green dagger and a wooden disk.”

“That—” Wei closed his eyes. “Now I remember. When he killed Du Su, I went in there to help him, but I got stuck in the aftermath of their battle and was injured.” It was good that he hadn’t been exposed.

“Brat, don’t do something stupid like that again. I know you’ve filial respect for your master, but you shouldn’t endanger your life.”

Warm feelings filled Wei’s heart. It eased his pain more than the pill he’d just eaten. “This grandson should follow your command, grandfather.” He blinked. In fact, that was all he could do right now with his broken body. “Grandfather, how many losses did we suffer?” The image of Li clan members dying flashed painfully in his mind. “And what happened to the wooden disk?”

“It’s with Divine Fragrance Palace’s seventh elder. He is inspecting it.”

Wei regretted losing that disk. It was a spirit artifact, not a roadside disk. It would be impossible to get it back until he reached a higher cultivation realm. A
nyway. “How much did the Li clan suffer, and did the Du clan retaliate?” Wei asked. He had a feeling the Du clan had two Bone Baptization Realm cultivators.

Grandfather Shua’s face darkened. “Yes. Du Tenjua came knocking on the door.” He sighed. “Thanks to Divine Fragrance Palace’s seventh elder, he couldn’t do anything. Instead, he was scolded by the seventh elder.”

Wei licked his lips, bringing some moisture to them. Fei’er leaned over and pushed a spoonful of chicken soup inside his mouth. “Young master, elder sister Sia came, and she wanted to take me back to the sect. She was happy with my progress. But I refused.”

“What?” Wei wanted to get up and smack the little girl’s forehead, but his body didn’t listen to him. “Why?”

“Don’t worry.” Grandfather Shua chuckled, and his eyes flashed for a moment when he looked at Wei and Fei’er. “I asked Holy Maiden Sia to rest for a few days in our clan, so you can talk with Miss Fei and convince her to go to Divine Fragrance Palace.”

“Thank you, grandfather.” He glared at the stupid lass. She didn’t know that being acquainted with Tang Sia would change her destiny. In the future, Tang Sia would be known not only as the fierce leader of the sect, but also well known for taking care of her people. It would be best if Fei’er could cultivate diligently and reach Houtian Realm someday so she could live a carefree life.

“Grandfather, what about the Li clan? How much damage have we suffered?”

Grandfather Shua sighed dejectedly. “We lost twenty people, and two of them were in Foundation Realm. Our Li clan is reduced to dregs.”

Sadness gripped Wei, but now he had a short-term goal. He would use his powers to make the Li clan overcome this tribulation and rise like a phoenix. Suddenly he found his purpose. He’d wanted to become a lazy immortal, but he didn’t know what he needed to do to get there.

  Now he had the answer.

Or, at least the first step. The path of immortality required a calm heart, and a calm heart required a safe and peaceful family.

Warm soup entered his mouth and soothed him. “Grandfather, don’t worry. I’ll help you build our strength faster than anyone can imagine. My master has taught me many things.” This time, he would do all in his power to help his clan. He didn’t want to have any regrets, and he would make sure he didn’t.
