The young dwarf dashed up on stage to take the microphone, and the king hobbled back to his seat as Ocheas climbed up on a ladder and gripped one edge of the curtain. The entire crowd counted down from three, and then he proudly swept the curtain off the wall.
I gasped audibly as the fabric fell down.
The painting was in full color, and the blues, greens, and reds jumped out at me like a sunrise over the ocean. They were especially beautiful against the soft gray of the wall.
And it moved.
The figures in front of us moved and shifted, weapons held aloft, like they were in the thick of a battle.
There was Danira, with a ball of water in front of her that tumbled and swirled. Kalista had her axe held high, ready to chop anything that came her way. Edora’s red locks mingled with the brilliant fire that surrounded one of her hands, and Maaren rose in the air behind her, her own double headed axe raised. Ariette was next to them, a huge bolt of electricity next to her and an intense expression on her face.
And finally, I was there. I had no weapon, nor was there anything amazing that burst forth from my hands. But, my Hand was raised, and it glowed a brilliant, unearthly red as I stared out from the painting with a proud expression that befit a warrior.
In short, the mural was absolutely beautiful.
More applause and cheers rose from the crowd, and my team slowly started to clap as the shock wore off.
“That guy made us look good,” Kalista mumbled proudly.
“I think he made us look like us,” I replied.
The smile on my face spread so far I thought it would jump right off my skin as I glanced at my team, and back at the mural.
We looked strong, and powerful, and completely badass.
But most importantly, we really did look like us.
