Circle of Lies Page 23

by Paul J. Teague

I try not to make a judgement about Steven Terry, instead using him as a catalyst in the story. I also went to see a clairvoyant in my home town to make sure I was depicting him fairly, and I have to say I find the whole thing intriguing.

The tides of Morecambe Bay feature in this story’s dramatic conclusion and this storyline is based very much on knowledge that I gained around a national news story which featured the tragic deaths of at least 21 Chinese labourers who were drowned by the tides whilst picking cockles along that coastline.

I have also been aware—through my radio work—of the man who has safely guided walkers across the bay for many years, using his intimate knowledge of the sea’s rhythms to keep them safe. Cedric Robinson eventually retired after 56 years of guiding walkers across the bay, and it was a remarkable achievement.

There are also sinking sands across the bay, so it all makes for a terrifying prospect for Charlotte, who has to brave the incoming tides to try to save her son. Never be deceived by its beauty; the bay is a dangerous place, best navigated by those who are familiar with it.

My apologies to you if you hate cliff-hangers, but this series is billed as a trilogy, and I want to keep you turning the pages as the tension mounts in this story. I have intentionally left lots of loose ends, and I promise that these will all tie up neatly in the final book, Truth Be Told.

These loose ends include George’s health bombshell, what really happened to Edward Callow, the storm clouds gathering over Lucia, and the small matter of Daisy Bowker, who refuses to stop looking for her missing half-brother.

Isla is also in the middle of a whirlwind in the final pages of this story. We have the plotline with Rex Emery and Piper to resolve and, of course, you’ll want to find out if Charlotte and Will get away with what they did all those years ago at the Sandy Beaches Holiday Camp. Oh, and Jenna, Piper and Abi will make a re-appearance too; I couldn’t leave them out of the action.

Truth Be Told will follow the pattern of the first book; it will reveal the secrets of the past alongside the dramatic storyline that is set in the present. I’ll reveal the stories of the men who died in this book, and you’ll be able to decide for yourself if they got what they deserved. If you want a hint of what’s going to happen, the clue is in the title: Truth Be Told. The only question is, who will be left alive and what price will have to be paid for past mistakes?
