“Twan!”
“My bad. I meant, punks.”
Shaking her head, Zara grabbed my hand and I grabbed the boys and we made our way inside. I had a good feeling about this. I had a good feeling about us. Who knew that a boy raised in the system with an abusive drug dealing father and a drug addicted dead mother would end up where I was? This was the type of ending that was only in movies.
“I’m gone make my momma proud loving you the way I will,” I spoke to Zara before kissing her on her forehead.
Epilogue
Bella
Draped in all white lace with African accented print, I stood before the country of Droga. Tears in my eyes as I listened to my King confess is undying love to me. I couldn’t keep my composure because his words were so powerful and heartfelt. I mean, my vows were good, but he had the entire country in tears. Even his eyes watered up from his own words.
Once he was done, ruining my make up by making me cry, we exchanged rings. The ring meant so much to me and him because it was the ring that Estella’s true lover gave to her when she was younger. It was absolutely gorgeous, and I had never been so honored to wear it.
“The time has finally come. Adonis, you may now kiss your bride.” The priest spoke.
Unveiling me, Adonis stared in my eyes for a moment with the most fulfilling smile ever. “I been waiting months to do this shit,” he mumbled before delicately pressing his full lips on top of mine. My world spun around a few times as I got lost in his kiss. The passion was so deep and real that my legs locked up and I could barely stand. His hand held onto my face while the other wrapped around my waist. Our tongues celebrated our union as we both forgot where we were.
“Damn, Don. Save some for the honeymoon,” Twan spat from beside Amir who was standing next to Adonis.
Twan’s voice broke our kiss because we couldn’t help but laugh. “Ugh, Twan shut up. You always ruining the mood,” Leah retorted next to me.
“I mean he just saying, we been standing up here for hours since he want to read a book about how much he love, Bella’s ass,” Amir chimed in.
“My brothers have no class.” Zara shook her head. “Priest, please continue.”
“Thank you, Princess Zara.” He cleared his throat. “Please turn to face the congregation. People of Droga, I give your King and Queen. King,” he announced. The crowd of people went wild with cheers, whistles and applauses. There was so much love that it overwhelmed me.
“You ready to take our first steps as the official King and Queen,” Adonis spoke to me, reaching out my hand.
“I been ready,” I replied, smiling. I took his hand and we made our way back down the aisle. We waved to the people and thanked them for coming as we exited the grand room. Our wedding party was behind us as we walked back to one of the spare rooms in the palace that was set up for us to wait. We had to make sure the people of Droga emptied the palace before we continued with our private reception with just family, close friends and other Kings and Queens of Africa.
“Finally. This shit done. Where the food at? I’m starving!” Twan expressed, snatching off his tie.
“Nigga when are you not hungry.” Adonis chuckled.
“Your sister got me on this stupid ass diet with her. Talking about I gained too much weight and she don’t want me looking fat at our wedding next year. Fat or not, her ass marrying me. Let’s not forget who was the one who got on one knee,” he jabbed.
“Oh, God. Here we go again with who proposed to who. I told you he wasn’t going to let this go, Zara,” Leah chimed in.
“It’s ok. I got on my knees once but Twan gets on his knees every night,” Zara shot back, winking at him.
“Come on, Zara. I don’t want to hear no shit like that about my sister.” Adonis’s face turned up.
“I second that shit,” Amir added.
“You just gone put my business out in the street like that? Huh? Now If I tell your brothers how you be tea bagging-,” he was saying before Zara rushed over to cover his mouth, laughing her little lungs off.
“My wedding is officially ruined.” Adonis turned away to take off his suit jacket. I walked over to help him out. “You stay trying to undress me. You ready for round two?”
“There shouldn’t had been a round one. We were almost late for our own wedding.” I playfully slapped his arm. He pulled me into him by my dress and kissed the bridge of my nose. “Your vows, did you mean everything you said?” I asked.
Looking at me as if I had just said something dumb, he sucked his teeth. “Woman I don’t talk to hear myself. I meant every word. You gave me life. You are my life. You are the reason why I’m alive and if it comes to it, you will be the reason I die. I’ll die for you and my heirs. This love that we have is not ordinary. This shit is real and as long as I have breath in my body, I will prove to you every day how much I love you and our children. I promise you.”
Again, tears conjured up in my eyes causing me blurred vision. “You’re the best thing that ever happened to me. I love you so much,” I expressed, pressing my lips against his. My arms flung around his neck as the kiss deepened.
A knock came at the door.
“Come in,” Amir invited. Estella came in with all seven of her grandkids. She made it a point to claim Amir and Zara’s kids because she treated them like a son and daughter.
“The wedding was beautiful. I did a splendid job,” she boosted, patting herself on the back. “The photographer is about to come in and take the wedding photo and then we can go out to the backyard for the reception. But before that, Adonis I need to speak to you for one moment.”
“I’ll be right back, my Queen.” He kissed my lips before he left out the room.
Leah and Twan walked over to me smiling like some weirdos. “What?”
“Nothing. We just can’t believe this is our life. Who would have thought me, the model wanna be would be a teacher with twin girls and married to a Prince?” Leah smiled. “Is this not crazy to you two.”
“Crazy? Nah. Dope as hell? Yea. Like this shit is something out of a fucking movie. We thought we was gone be sex slaves and servants. Like we went from fighting for our lives to living our best lives. We’ve changed in so many ways. I’m in love. I’m getting married to one woman. I’m a father to two kids that didn’t come out my nuts. If I ain’t changed then I don’t know who has. This turned out to be a kidnapping of a fucking lifetime.”
Leah and I both laughed. Twan had a way of explaining things but it made sense.
“I’m just happy we’re finally together. We thought we would never see each other again. We vowed to stay together no matter what and here we are. This just proves that nothing can separate us. Not even a whole country,” I joked.
“Got that right,” Leah agreed. We all joined in for a hug and it felt so good to say that my best friends were now my family. I was finally happy, and I prayed this feeling stayed with me forever.
The End.
