I blushed. I’d been doing that a lot lately.
“You’re not so bad yourself,” I replied.
He raised an eyebrow. “Just ‘not so bad,’ huh? I must be doing something wrong.”
“Well, maybe not just not so bad,” I said with a wink.
Becks grinned, slaying me with his smile. He dipped his head and gave me a quick peck on the lips, trying hard not to smudge my lipstick… again. A shiver tore through me. Becks’ kisses were like a drug, making my heart race. I couldn’t seem to get enough of them. Had anyone ever become addicted to kisses before? If not, I was sure I’d make an excellent case study.
“So, are you going to tell me about these special plans you keep hinting at?” I asked, trying to rip my mind from Becks’ lips.
“Why don’t you try to guess, and I’ll tell you if you’re right or wrong?”
“Ugh, I hate guessing.”
“Sorry. Those are the rules.”
“Fine. Are you going to at least give me a hint?”
“Only one.” He pulled me closer to him and bent down to whisper in my ear, “The force will be with you. Always.”
I sighed, trying to pull my lusty brain from his amazing scent and his closeness so I could focus on his quote. I worked it over in my mind for a moment.
“We’re watching Star Wars?” I asked.
He nodded, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. “Not just Star Wars. All the Star Wars. We are going to finally finish the series. Like we should’ve done eight years ago.”
I couldn’t hide my smile.
“That will take all weekend,” I said.
“It’ll be the best weekend ever, as long as I’m with you.”
Yup. Becks was amazing. There was no way around it.
“You’re the best boyfriend ever.”
“And you’re the best girlfriend ever.”
His lips met mine again, but this time I pressed up, not caring how smudged my lipstick got or how much of it would get on his lips. I just wanted him. Only him.
The kiss was just beginning to deepen when someone yelled, “Get a room!” right in my ear.
Becks and I jumped apart and looked in the direction of the voice.
It was Calla.
Why was it always Calla?
She and her new boyfriend, Liam Hardwick, grinned back at us. They’d only been together for a few weeks, but they were both jokesters and really cute together.
“Very funny, Calla,” I said.
“I know. I just did the same thing to your sister.”
My sister?
I scanned the room until I found Rose, her head lying on the shoulder of Adam Banks. Those two had been going out since the winter. But that was a story for a different time.
“Guess you two are more alike than you think,” Calla said. “Hey, are you going to Kat’s after-party?”
“Of course.”
Kat Levy was back in school and was throwing an after-party at Mrs. Jackson’s Pancake House. It was her favorite place to hang out since she’d gotten out of the hospital. And, with her dating Mrs. Jackson’s son, Nicholas, I was hoping to get a free short stack out of the deal.
Kim came up next to me, hanging off Dylan Stone’s massive arms. He definitely lived up to his last name. Hard, chiseled jaw, muscled body that he couldn’t even hide in a tux, and quiet. How he dealt with a girl as loud as Kim was beyond me.
“I’m ready to go into a pancake coma,” Kim said. “Should we leave in ten minutes?”
“I want to get in one more dance,” I said, turning back to Becks. “Is it okay if we meet them there?”
“I’m cool with that,” he said, pulling me closer.
Calla and Kim moved farther away, probably going to spread the word to Rose.
“So, does it get easier?” I asked, half laughing.
“Does what get easier?”
“Seeing Kim with another guy after your total make out session with her?”
He groaned, while I laughed some more. I’d been teasing him about it for months, and it was cute to watch him get all flustered and embarrassed.
“I’ve told you a thousand times. She kissed me on the cheek. You would have seen that if you didn’t close your eyes.”
“I couldn’t help it. I couldn’t stand the thought of you kissing someone else.”
He shook his head. “I’ve only ever wanted to kiss you.” He placed a kiss on my forehead. “It’s just you, Lily. It’s always been you. You’re the only girl for me. I’ve always loved you, and I always will.”
My heart felt so full of love I thought I’d burst.
“I love you too.”
I loved Becks, and he loved me. And I knew that whatever I went through, Becks would be there. Through graduation, the summer, and wherever life took us after that, we’d always be in each other’s lives, no matter what. That’s what love was to us. Never giving up on each other, no matter how far apart you were. We knew that now.
He grinned. “Kiss me, Lily McAlister.”
I laughed out loud, feeling complete and happy and oh so alive.
“Gladly.”
