His Forgotten Mate Page 10

"I promise you, I have no idea what we're having," he defended holding up his hand in surrender.

Alexis narrowed his eyes at him.

"I promise. Plus if I did, I would have told you."

"Sure, you would," Alexis drawled with a smile.

"All right," his mother said. "Let's do the gender reveal first, then we can eat before opening the presents."

“Yes, we know you said no presents,” Neptune interjected. “But we couldn’t help it.”

Viktoria walked over and took both their hands, pulling them over to the center of the room. Alexis was told to sit in the chair that was pushed behind him, while Maverick stood next to him.

"Okay, little brother. We're going to play a quick game," Cullen said, standing in front of them.

"What kind of game?" Maverick asked.

  "Darts," Matthus said.

He looked around at his brothers and wondered what the hell they were up to.

"Can't you guys just tell us already? We've been waiting for months to find out our babies’ genders."

"Yeah," Alexis said in agreement. "I think we've been patient enough. Who ever heard of the parents not knowing before everyone else?"

  The room laughed.

"Yes, and I commend you guys on your patience," soothed Marcus. "But I promise this will be quick."

"Just don't poke anyone's eyes out," Misha joked.

The room parted, and there was a large, white dartboard decorated with balloons in the colors of the rainbow.

"So, here's how it's going to go," Marius started explaining. "You'll both have sixty seconds to throw as many darts at the board bursting the balloons. Just remember the more balloons you burst, the quicker it will reveal the sex of your twins."

"You guys really are trying to make me have these babies first, aren't you?" Alexis huffed.

“Here’s a hint,” Marcus whispered loud enough for him and Alexis to hear. “Start from the middle and work your way out.”

“You’re just as bad as Misha,” Marius said shaking his head.

"Come on, Alex. It’s going to be fun," Cullen said. Before either he or Alexis could object, he continued to speak. "Timer ready?"

  "Yup," someone said.

  "Alright, go," Cullen yelled.

Maverick didn't have to look at Alexis to see if he was going to do it since he threw the first dart at the balloons. Egged on by the cheering crowd he joined in, throwing his darts and hitting every one of his targets. His heart started to fill with joy as pictures of two babies with a blue and pink sash wrapped around their bodies. Both he and Alexis stopped throwing darts at the same time, simply staring at the board. He wasn't sure if they had stopped the timer.

"A boy," Alexis said, turning to look at him.

"And a little girl," he added.

  Tears welled in Alexis's eyes.

"We're having a boy who will have your strength."

"And a girl who will have your beauty."

Maverick reached down and touched his stomach. "Thank you for coming into my life." His voice cracked for a second.

"No," Alexis said, shaking his head. "I should be the one telling you thank you for forgiving me." He stood and wrapped his arms around Maverick.

"I forgave you a long time ago," Maverick told him. "Because you are everything I want in a mate. You’re my sweet angel."

  “I love you,” Alexis whispered.

“I love you, too.” Maverick leaned down and took Alexis’s lips. Cheers and whoops could be heard in the background. Maverick ignored them, concentrating on giving his mate a kiss he will never forget.

Thank you for taking the time to read this sweet story about finding love in an unexpected way.
