Doc winked at her and said, “Well then, glad I could help.” He was smiling, but his chest hurt. He fucking hated knowing she was in this place and when visiting time was over, it almost killed him to leave her.

“So, tell me the gossip,” she said. That was what their visits had come to, mostly. They couldn’t talk about real business because like Dallas said, the walls had ears. They did communicate in writing, but they’d developed a code so when the letters were opened, it didn’t give anything away.

“Hmm, let me see…well, Hawk is still single, and I still haven’t actually seen him with a woman so I’m 90% sure he’s gay.” He grinned. Dallas laughed; she knew he was kidding. Hawk loved women, but he wasn’t relationship material, nor did he want a relationship. His sex life, which he insisted was very active, was something he kept very private. “Coyote and Jamie have been hot and heavy. Rumor has it that Jamie thinks Coyote is going to make her his old lady.” Dallas wrinkled her nose. She didn’t like Jamie. Doc suspected those were residual feelings from when she first moved onto the ranch and he was fucking the redhead pretty regularly. “Badger has been seeing a woman from Dorchester. Problem is, I think she’s a druggie. Badger denies it because he knows if I find out she’s a needle-user, I won’t let her on the ranch. As it is, he’s never brought her out around me, which makes me suspicious. She lives in a trailer, doesn’t work, and according to Hawk, she looks pretty torn-up.”

“What’s Tank up to? Have I missed any of his new, juicy recipes?”

“He’s been cooking it up a lot lately when he’s not out on an assignment. He brought a woman home too, a few weeks ago and as far as I know, she hasn’t left. She was a dancer at that topless bar, Skye.”

“Great, just what he needs,” Dallas said, shaking her head. “Hopefully he doesn’t knock her up. Have you seen him around the kids on the ranch? He’s terrible to them.”

“Yeah, he’s a pretty terrible person all the way around, though.”

“Then why keep him in the fold?” Dallas asked out of curiosity.

“Because if there’s one thing I learned in the army is that it takes all kinds when you go into battle.”

“Are you planning on going into battle?” she asked.

  “Every day.”

When Doc left the prison he had a new list of things that Dallas needed. He drove straight from there to the Bronx, and Adán’s home. The sound of the Harley brought Adán to the door before Doc even reached it and the look on his face told Doc everything he needed to know about what the man thought of him. It was too bad for Adán that Doc really didn’t care.

“Pastor Ortiz, Happy New Year.” Adán rolled his eyes and said:

“My next Happy New Year will be the one when your lady is let out of prison.”

“Then we have a lot in common,” Doc said. He held out the list and Adán took it. While he read it over, Doc pulled his wallet out. He handed three hundred-dollar bills to the small man.

“Your lady has expensive tastes. I had to use a hundred of my own money last time.”

Doc laughed. “Nice try, little man. My accountant quotes the most expensive prices for everything she asks for, adds it up, and subtracts what we give you. To date, you’ve made over two thousand dollars. Don’t get greedy.”

“I’m risking my job…my whole life.”

“And if you get greedy, you’ll be risking your family’s life as well, remember that.” Doc turned to leave, just as Abril’s little red car pulled into the driveway. He smiled and looked at Adán. “Well, it looks like my miserable trip to see you just turned into a party.”

“If you put one hand on her…”

Adán didn’t finish his sentence, or maybe Doc just didn’t hear the rest of it. Abril was dressed in a pair of high-waisted light-blue jeans and a fitted, white turtleneck sweater. She had on high heels and her legs seemed to go on forever. The sweater and the jeans covered everything, but the way they fitted left almost nothing to the imagination. Doc felt his pants tighten across the front and he thought about what Dallas told him: “I just don’t want to know, and I don’t want anyone on the ranch to know.” Abril was perfect…in more ways than one. Doc started toward her and as he was basking in her smile, he heard her father behind him saying:

“I mean it, I will kill you.” Doc ignored him. He wasn’t afraid of the little man.

“Well, hello there, Miss Ortiz. Happy New Year.”

“Happy New Year to you too, Mr. Marshall.”

  “Please, call me Doc.”

“And you call me, Abril.” She put her hand out and he kissed it again. Her face flushed, and Doc knew he had her.

“You know, Abril, I was wondering…maybe you might like to join me for lunch.” The woman’s eyes went to her father. Doc couldn’t see Adán, but he could picture the panic on the man’s face as his daughter said:

“I would love that. Do you mind, I just brought some things to drop off for my papa and then I’ll be ready.”

“Of course,” he said. She opened the trunk of the car and Doc looked up toward the house. Adán was sweating. He almost felt bad for the little man. Abril had a few boxes in her trunk and Doc helped her carry them up to the house. Adán grabbed his daughter by the arm and pulled her into the house. Doc could hear them arguing in Spanish for several minutes. Finally, with a forced smile on her face Abril stepped back out on the porch and said:

“I’m ready.” Doc held out his arm and she took it.

“Have you ever ridden on a Harley?”

“No,” she said, with a nervous laugh. Doc looked over his shoulder at Adán and with a wink he said:

“Well then, you’re in for the ride of your life.”

  Abril

Abril wanted to go to college like everyone else, but her father was afraid it would “corrupt” the good little Lutheran girl. She wanted to move out of New York. She hated the Bronx. When she was a little girl the family had taken a trip to Texas and she’d loved it there. That was where she always thought she’d end up, living in San Antonio, raising a family someday. Her father told her she was being “ridiculous” when she told him about that dream. She was practically ordered to stay in New York, meet someone at church, get married, have babies, and live her mother’s life. So here she was at twenty years old, still living with her parents and growing to hate her father.

It was about six months before Doc came into their lives that she found out who her papa really was. She went out with a few friends for someone’s birthday and had come home early with a headache. When she walked in the house, she heard something she’d never heard before…her parents arguing. Her whole life she had assumed their marriage was completely lacking in any kind of passion. They barely spoke, much less argued. But as soon as she heard their raised voices that night, she found herself curious and instead of making her presence known, she hid and listened.

Her mother was calling her father all kinds of terrible names, some in Spanish and some in English. She was telling him that his sins were going to send him to hell and she had forgiven him for the last time. Her father was telling her mother that if she weren’t a cold, frugal woman, he wouldn’t have to go elsewhere for companionship. The conversation went on and Abril discovered that the “companionship” he sought out, at least that time, was with one of the women he ministered to in prison. He’d been caught by his assistant with his penis in the woman’s mouth. The assistant had gone straight to the pastor’s wife and from what Abril could get from the rest of the conversation, they’d had to pay the assistant off to keep her from going to the prison and getting her father fired, or to the church and having him ousted. The assistant quit after the payoff and that was how Abril ended up with the job of her father’s assistant. She never told her parents that she’d overheard the argument, but following her father around the prison when he made his rounds convinced her that it had done nothing to dissuade him from continuing to “minister” to the lonely women behind bars. It sickened her
and she lost all respect for him, but she did her best not to let it show. After all, her job at the church allowed her to create a pretty good “escape fund” and she wasn’t ready to give that up. Only when she had enough money to escape to Texas and start a new life would she leave the church and her father…or so she thought, before she met Doc Marshall.

On New Year’s Day, 1979, something happened that would completely change her life and the way she thought about almost everything. That was the day she defied her father and went out to lunch with the infamous Doc Marshall. Abril had asked around after the first time she met him and she knew he was some kind of an outlaw. She wasn’t sure what his business was with her papa at that point, but she knew her papa hated him, and that only seemed to make him more appealing. Of course, his blue eyes, sexy body, long blond hair…drop-dead gorgeous smile…all made him appealing as hell in the first place. Abril had always been attracted to fair-skinned men. The fact that this one had an edge to him only made him more attractive.

She went to lunch with him that day and before the day was over, she found herself in a hotel with him. It was all kind of a blur now when she thought back on it…except the sex – that was phenomenal, and she remembered every second…every feeling. Doc had been so damned charming at lunch. He asked her about herself and seemed to really listen when she talked. Those blue eyes seemed to look right into her soul and they lit her body on fire. By the time she finished her entree she was shifting uncomfortably in her seat, trying to stop the ache between her legs.

It was crazy, really. She asked him about himself, and about the club, but he deflected most of those questions and somehow turned the conversation back to her each time. She realized that it didn’t matter if he told her anything about himself or not. She had known almost as soon as she got on the back of his Harley and wrapped her hands around his waist that she was going to sleep with him. She just hadn’t realized how soon.

When they left the restaurant before they got on the bike, he pushed her up against it in the parking lot and kissed her, hard. That kiss was the hottest thing she’d ever experienced and somehow, she knew it would be her ultimate downfall. When he released her from the kiss and she was still breathless and her head was still spinning, he had said, “I want to see this luscious body, Abril. I want to touch it. I want to feel it. I want to make you crazy with lust. Interested?”

Her body was making all the decisions at that point and it already felt crazy with lust. She nodded and the next thing she knew, they were in a hotel room and she was stripped down to the sexy black bodysuit she’d worn that day underneath her clothes. She had to work in an office – of a church – and dress conservatively. Because of that, she had an affinity for pretty undergarments and she was happy that she’d chosen the black lace. Doc looked at her in it like he was the king of the jungle and she was his prey, and it made her hotter and wetter than she’d ever been. Not that she was all that experienced with men, but none of the handful of men she’d been with…all put together…came close to creating the inferno inside of her that Doc Marshall ignited.

“You are so fucking sexy,” he said as his eyes roamed over her body, settling on the cleavage between her buxom breasts. He reached up and ran his finger along her bottom lip. Abril had big lips. She’d always hated them but now, the way Doc looked at them and touched them, and kissed them, made her grateful at last. “You have cock-sucking lips,” he said. She was slightly shocked by his language. No man had ever talked to her like that before. But she was surprised to find that it also turned her on. It made her feel dirty and sexy…and she wanted more. “You want to suck my cock, Abril?”

“Yes,” she heard herself say. She was no longer in charge of any of her thoughts or actions at that point. Doc Marshall had invaded her mind, her body, and her soul, and he was in charge. She knew before he even put his big cock in her mouth that she was not going to tell him no about anything…ever.

“Take off my pants and get on your knees,” he told her. She unbuttoned and unzipped his jeans and pushed them down to his knees. She could already see the head of his cock peeking over the top of his shorts and she licked her lips. He saw that and smiled. “You can’t wait to suck it, can you, baby?”

She didn’t answer him in words. Instead, she dropped to her knees on the floor and pushed his pants and shorts all the way down. He stepped out of them and she set them aside, before taking the shaft of his cock in her hand and opening her mouth. She put her big lips on the head of it and sucked just the tip into her mouth. She felt his hands wrap up in her long, curly hair and as she took the rest on him in against her tongue, inch by inch, he held on tightly, moving her head where he wanted it…always in control. He began to move his hips and thrust his cock in and out of her mouth, shoving it in so deep that she almost choked on it several times. That seemed to excite him even more and he pulled at her hair so hard that she thought it might come out by the roots…but she didn’t care. She was surprised, but just knowing how excited he was because of what she was doing was almost enough to make her come herself. She reached behind herself and grabbed the heels of her shoes that Doc insisted she keep on. She held onto them tightly and while he shoved himself in and out of her mouth…forcefully, but not violently…she sucked and licked and swirled her tongue around his thickness. She was so horny that she thought about touching herself while she sucked on him…but she’d never done that. She’d never touched herself in front of a man. Doc kept pounding away at her mouth and just when she thought he was going to come, she felt him pull back and out of her lips with a loud pop.

Seconds later she was pulled up to her feet and Doc’s big cock was in his hand. He bent at the knees slightly so he was her height, and he let his cock slide in between her thighs. He started moving his hips, letting his shaft press into and tickle her still lace-covered clit while at the same time kissing and licking up and down between her breasts, and finally putting his mouth over one of the nipples that was pressing hard into the bodysuit. God, he was so good that she thought her head was going to explode. She’d never felt that kind of pleasure before and it was almost over-stimulating. She was lost in it when he suddenly took a step back, spun her around, and untied the silk ties that held the bodysuit around her neck. He yanked it down, roughly, and pushed her forward so she was bent at the waist. She put her hands out and grabbed onto the bed and even then, her legs almost gave out when she felt him slip into her sopping-wet pussy.

“Oh my God!” she yelled as he penetrated her. His hands were on her breasts, fondling, massaging, tweaking and pinching as he drilled into her pussy from behind. She was making all kinds of noise, alternating between Spanish and English, feeling like she was losing her mind. She hadn’t even imagined this kind of ecstasy existed…it was like he was made to fit her, perfectly. She could actually feel the veins in his cock pulsating inside of her. Her pussy was gripping onto him like a vise and when he brought his hand up and smacked her on the ass, it nearly pushed her over the edge. The sting of his hand on her full ass cheek, coupled with all of the other things he was doing to her…was indescribable. He continued pumping that cock in and out of her, faster, harder…until not only her head was exploding, but her entire body. Every nerve ending, every synapse, fired off at once and she screamed as she came all over his cock. Doc didn’t stop, not right away. It was several seconds after she hit the last wave of her own orgasm before he let out a sound like a feral animal and she felt the rush of warmth fill her up and begin to run down the insides of her thighs. That was the moment Abril knew he was going to change her life. She just couldn’t have imagined how profound the impact he would have on her would be.

  Two Years Later

“Where is Doc?” Abril took her few belongings from the man at the desk in the police station and looked at the man waiting for her. She’d met him a few times. She didn’t like him…he frightened her. She had sat in jail all weekend, wondering if Doc would heed her call for help, or if he’d be mad
at her, disgusted by her for stealing from her own father, from the church. Or maybe mad at her for never telling him. For two years he’d paid all of her bills while she stockpiled the money she skimmed. Maybe that would piss him off. He did accept her collect call, but he was short with her and he only told her that she’d have to ask for a public defender; he never mentioned whether or not he was going to bail her out.

When they told her that her bail had been posted three days later, right after her bail had been set at $50,000, she’d been almost ecstatic. She had expected to see Doc waiting for her and she couldn’t wait to feel his arms around her. Instead, there was Hawk. His beady black eyes bored into her and she felt like a mouse that he was about to scoop up and eat.

“He sent me,” Hawk said, not answering her question about where Doc was. She knew that he’d been busy lately, but she’d fooled herself into thinking she might be one of his priorities. She carried her paltry belongings and followed Hawk out the front door of the police station. They were almost to his bike when he stopped and said, “Here’s the deal. You have two choices. Doc says I can take you back to your apartment and you can face the charges they have against you. You’ll have to do that on your own. Doc has things going on right now and he can’t be involved in this…at all.”

Abril panicked and blurted out, “What does that mean? He’s just dumping me?” Her heart was racing. Even the thought of going to jail didn’t frighten her as badly as the thought of living without Doc. Over the past two years, she had seen him at least once a week when he came to New York to visit his old lady. She knew about Dallas by then. She never met her and she had no idea what she looked like or what kind of person she was. But what she did know was that Doc loved her, and Abril hated the other woman for that alone. Doc hadn’t abandoned her when she went to prison, but here he was, ready to abandon Abril already.
