The Alpha King and his Human Mate Page 3

“Yeah, it was something I was interested in for a little while, but not now.”

“They are into the dinosaur thing, but yesterday they dug up some bones that I think might be some of your ancestors.”

  “Really?”

“Yeah, my mom said that they were big with long canines.”

“I bet they are,” Kimberly frowned. “I bet the Alpha King will love that, if he finds out your parents are digging up our ancestors.”

Jillian chuckled. “Yep, I am sure he will be.”

“So, do you move around a lot?” Kim asked her as they stopped outside Jillian’s classroom.

“Yep, we move every year for my dad’s work, it’s been really annoying.”

“I bet. It’s probably hard to make friends.”

“You have no idea. I am just glad this is my senior year and I don’t have to move if I don’t want too.”

“I hear you,” she smiled as the first bell rang. “See you at lunch,” Kimberly then said and wandered off.

Edric was working in his office when his phone rang. “What’s going on Warren? Why didn’t you mind link?” he asked his Beta.

“Too long of a conversation,” Warren said. “Look, these people have all the right permits, there was no bribery going on. I can’t kick them off the land unless we have proof saying it is privately owned.”

Edric growled, as did his wolf. His headache was getting worse. “Fine, I will dig up the papers, and come down there myself.”

“Yes Alpha, you had better move it along. They have the first skeleton removed.”

“I will,” he assured. He hung up, frustrated. He could not have some humans digging up his ancestors. He opened his filing cabinet and started to sort through the papers, finally finding what he needed almost an hour later. “Ha!” he said triumphantly.

“Are you going to the school today after you clear up this mess?” his wolf asked.

“Not unless we can get those people off our land before school is over.”

“Then let’s get going,” his wolf said.

“I don’t know why you think our mate is there.”

“Why else would you be so ornery,” Raul chuckled.

Jillian’s parents were a bit surprised when a limo and two dark SUV’s pulled up to the dig site. They had already been halted with their progress when some guy had shown up claiming they were digging on private property. But he didn’t have proof that he owned it, so he had left, promising to return with the paperwork proving it was private land. They were just getting back to work when the limo pulled in, and a large man got out.

He exuded power as he headed to them, and he looked angry.

He walked over to them, holding up a piece of paper. “You need to stop your digging. This is private property.”

Jillian’s dad hopped out of the hole, not intimidated by the man, even though he towered over him.“Who says?”

“I do. I am Edric Ventin, and this is my land.” Jillian’s dad hated it when people like him acted like they were a God or something. Rich men always seemed to be like that, and he looked rich. He also looked like Jillian’s dad should know him but he was not one of those who worshiped men like him or was in awe of them.

“Can I see your proof?” Jillian’s dad asked.

Edric handed over the paper, and Jillian’s dad read it. He then whistled, making everyone stop their work.

“This man has proof that this is his land, we need to get off of it.”

He then looked up at Edric. “We do apologize sir. We had no idea. But someone gave us permission to dig here.”

“Do you know who?” Edric asked him.

“No sir, we just got a letter from the city, saying they had work for me, so here I am.”

“I will find out who it is and have a word with him,” Edric growled. “Now, if you wouldn’t mind putting the bones back in the ground and burying the site back up, it would be appreciated.”

“All right,” Jillian’s father sighed. He looked at his wife. “I hope there are more digging sites around. I hate to uproot Jillian on her second day of school.”

Edric’s heart leaped at the name, but why? This must be the human girl’s parents. Why would her name cause excitement in him? His wolf chuckled. “I am telling you, she is our mate.”

“She is not,” Edric argued. He shook Jillian’s dad’s hand. “Thank you sir, and you will be compensated for your work,” Edric promised, “and I will try and find you another dig site.”

“That would be really kind of you sir,” Jillian’s mom stepped up to him. She was a petite woman, but very lovely. She looked young, except for the few gray hairs in her brown hair. “I don’t want to have to pull our daughter out of school so soon. We have already moved too many times,” she smiled at Edric, “it would be nice if she could make some friends and stay here for a while.”

Edric nodded. “I will see what I can do,” he assured them.

Edric then looked at two of his guards. “Let them get back to work, make sure everything is covered up before they leave.” He then turned to Jillian’s dad. “I will be in touch with you sir if I could get your name and phone number.”

“My name is Henry Everett, and this is my wife, Nadine,” he said, hugging her to him. He was suddenly a little protective of his wife, but it didn’t help that she was checking Edric out.

Edric nodded as Henry handed over his business card to Edric. “If you could find us more work, we would appreciate it.”

“I will try Henry,” Edric assured him.

“Thank you, sir,” Henry said, and then nodding at his team, they headed back into the hole to bury the remains.

Edric and Warren both sighed as the team began to throw dirt back on the site.

“Let’s go see if we can find out who gave them permission, shall we?” Edric told Warren.

Warren nodded, but Edric’s wolf growled.

“We are going to the school, remember?”

“No, we are not, I have important work to do.”

“Do you want your headache to go away? Our mate is nearby, I can feel it.”

“Fine, if it will shut you up,” Edric growled, making his wolf chuckle.

He looked at Warren as they got into the limo. “My wolf thinks our mate is at the school. I don’t believe it, but I will appease him by going, and then I am going to find out who let those people dig up my land.”

Warren nodded. “Whatever you say Alpha. I think your wolf is nuts, but whatever.”

  Raul growled in response.

“He did not like that,” Edric pointed out to Warren, who only chuckled.

  Chapter 4

The Alpha King headed to the school, unannounced. Wouldn’t everyone be surprised, Edric grinned as he got out of the limo with Warren and two of his guards. He was glad he was coming in unannounced. He was sick of all the girls dressing like prostitutes, hoping he would choose one of them. As they headed into the school, Edric’s wolf perked up and began to sniff. “She is here,” he said, urging Edric to hurry to the cafeteria where the students were eating lunch.

As the men walked in, all conversation stopped. Every eye was on the Alpha King. The King was here? Today? Not one of the girls was dressed to entertain him. The girls all started to primp themselves, but he was not watching any of them, he only saw one girl, and she was absolutely stunning, what he could see of her. She was nicely built, had beautiful brown, curly hair that went past her shoulders, and her scent hitting him like a ton of bricks. It was chocolate, cinnamon, and orange.

  “Mate,” his wolf growled.

Jillian was wondering why the cafeteria was suddenly deathly quiet.

“The Alpha King,” Kimberly whispered, wondering why he was there. Jillian glanced up and saw the most handsome man she had ever seen in her life. He was tall, and muscular, with dark hair and the greenest eyes she had ever seen, and he was looking right at her.

She blushed and ducked her head.

  “Why is he here?” Jil
lian whispered.

“I don’t know, but he is headed this way,” Ruben said.

  “Jillian Everett,” she heard.

Jillian looked up. The man was towering over her. How did he know her name?

“You are mine,” he said. She was absolutely gorgeous up close and she had the bluest eyes he had ever seen. His wolf was pleased. Here was their mate.

Ruben’s mouth hung open. “Sire, you do know she is a human, right?”

Warren chuckled beside him. “I told him that also.”

Jillian was still watching the king. “Did I just hear you right?”

“Yes my lady, you are my mate,” he said, making everyone in the cafeteria gasp.

Jillian began to laugh. “Oh, that is a good one. Me, a human, being a wolves mate. That is rich.” She then stood and poked his chest. “I know why you are here. You are here to get girls for your harems. Well, I can tell you Mr. Tall, Dark and Handsome,” making his wolf chuckle, and Edric grin at her feistiness, “I will not be part of that, so you can count me out.”

She then started to walk away, but he reached out and grabbed her hand. She gasped as a thousand volts ran through her. She looked down at his hand and then at him. “Would you kindly let me go before I scream?”

Edric chuckled. “Who, pray tell would come to your rescue? Everyone here is a wolf.”

“I don’t care, but it would make me feel better.”

He chuckled again. “Jillian, please, I am not here to make you a part of the harem. As a matter of fact, as of today, they are gone. They are being sent to the other packs, and I am not finding any more. If the packs want girls, they can come and get them, themselves.”

The girls gasped around him, and some began to cry. Edric ignored them. He had finally found his mate, and his wolf was very happy.

Jillian tore her hand from his. “That’s too bad for them, I am sure all those girls were looking forward to sleeping with you or your men. Well, guess what, I won’t. I am not that kind of girl, and I will not be used by the likes of you,” she hissed. “Now, if you would kindly leave, or choose some other slut, but you can’t have me. Thanks, but no thanks.” She then walked away, everyone staring after her in awe or horror.

Edric headed out the door after her, making the girls angry. How dare he choose a human over them. Their Luna, a human? Impossible.

Jillian was fuming as she headed out the door. How dare that arrogant man tell her that she was his mate. Alpha King, right. He did exude power, great power. She could feel it oozing off of him, but she was human. So what if when he had touched her that she felt her body come alive. She scoffed again. It was ridiculous. She didn’t care if he was extremely handsome or well built, or drool-worthy, she was not his. But,” her inner voice said, “weren’t you just talking about having a wolf for a mate?”

“Jillian,” she heard. She turned around to see the supposed King headed to her, his entourage absent.

“Where are your guards, your Highness?” she spit out.

“I don’t need them. I want to talk to you, alone.”

“I have nothing to say to you.”

“I want you to come home with me,” he told her.

“No. That is so wrong on so many levels. I will not be used by you. I will not be one of your girls. I have heard of your reputation. Who knows what kind of disease you have from sleeping with all those skanks,” she said angrily. Why was she so angry with him? It wasn’t like she knew him, plus she was probably being disrespectful, but she really didn’t care. ‘But you want to get to know him,’ her inner voice said to her. She shoved it back down. She would not ever want to get to know him, no matter how good looking he was.

“For your information, I do not sleep with them, and I assure you, I am clean of diseases,” the king frowned.

“I seriously don’t care,” Jillian replied. “Go back to your little palace, or wherever you live, I will not be a part of it, ever.”

She stomped away. Edric admired her backside as she walked away.

“Go after her,” his wolf said.

“I won’t. She needs to cool down.”

“Go after her,” his wolf said again. Edric could feel his wolf taking over. “Raul, no.”

“If you don’t, I will,” his wolf said, and the Alpha felt his bones cracking and his canines lengthening as he turned into his wolf and raced after his mate.

Jillian was ticked off. How dare some arrogant man tell her what to do. She knew she was not his so-called mate. Who believed in that crap anyway? Seriously? Even if Kimberly had told her about it, but she didn’t have proof of any of it. She hadn’t seen anyone become a wolf.

She suddenly found herself confronted by a very large gray wolf with a white face and incredible green eyes. He was almost as tall as she was. He whimpered at her. Okay, so maybe what Kimberly had said was true. Werewolves did exist.

She rolled her eyes at him, making him chuckle. He nudged her with his nose.

“No, wolf boy, I don’t care if you do look handsome as a wolf. I am not giving into you. You are that same guy, right?” she asked, looking him in the eyes.

  He nodded.

“Yeah, look at me talking to a dog,” Jillian sighed. “Sorry, but no, even if it is cool that you can change into a wolf.”

The wolf chuckled again, nudging her hand with his head.

“No, I am not petting you either,” she replied, “even if your fur looks nice and soft,” she said.

The wolf laid down by her side, and put his head under her hand. Even laying down, she didn’t have to bend down to pet him. She felt his fur. It was really soft. She found herself rubbing his head, making the wolf smile. He nudged her hand, wanting more.

“No, you are going to be nothing but trouble,” she said, shaking her head, making him laugh again.

She began to walk away, and the wolf whimpered.

“No, I am sorry, but no. I will not be a part of your harem or whatever you call it.”

“Jillian,” she heard from behind her then. She ignored him. Had he changed back into a human already?

He caught up with her, grabbing her hand, sending sparks through her. So he had changed back, and he was totally nude. She blushed, making him chuckle.

“This is all yours if you come home with me,” he said.

“No, and no,” she said, looking away. “Just leave me be. I will not be in your bed now, or ever, got it?” she said, and walked away, after yanking her hand free from his.

Warren was headed to them, eyeing his king, who was naked and following the girl.

“Need some clothes Alpha?” Warren smirked.

“If you would Beta,” Edric responded. “I seem to be intimidating the girl with my sexiness.”

“You wish,” she scoffed. “I’ve seen bigger.”

Warren busted out laughing as he handed over some clothes to the king he had snagged from the limo. Edric’s mouth hung open. He could not believe she would talk to him like that. Her King and mate. He quickly dressed and caught up with Jillian, stopping her again, by grabbing her arm, a frown on his face. “Do not tell me you have seen a man naked,” he growled at her. His wolf was extremely angry. His mate should not be looking at other men.

“Oh please, go growl somewhere else,” she said. “You see naked women every day, so don’t even go there.”

He frowned again. She was right. He really needed to get rid of those girls.

“I promise you, the girls are gone as of today. The only naked body I want to see is yours,” he said.

“In your dreams,” she replied, heading back to the school.

“Jillian, do not walk away from me,” he said.

“Or what, your Highness?” she mock bowed at him, “You will throw me in the dungeon? Go back to your harem, king, and leave me be.”

He had had enough. His mate would not disrespect him. He walked over to her, picked her up, threw her over his shoulder, and walking to the limo, he threw her inside, kicking and screaming.
/>   She opened the other door as he scooted in and was ready to leap out, but he reached over her, slammed the door and locked it. “You are not leaving, you are mine.”

“I am not yours,” she hissed. “You can go to hell.”

He smirked. “I’ve already been there, love.”

She tried to unlock the door but to no avail.

“Let me out,” she ground out.

“No. You are going home with me.”

“You can’t just kidnap me. My parents will wonder where I am,” she pointed out.

“Yes, your parents,” he said, as Warren started the car and pulled out to the road. “I met your parents today.”

She paled. “What did you to them?”

“I did nothing to them, although they were digging on my land,” he said, “and digging up my relatives, without my permission.”

“I don’t think they knew,” she told him.

“They didn’t. I informed them. They were quite gracious, unlike their daughter,” he growled.

“You kidnapped me, jerk, what do you expect me to do? Bow at your feet?”

“I wouldn’t mind,” he smirked at her.

“Ass,” he said, making him chuckle. “Let me go.”

“No, never, and if you don’t stay, I am going to press charges against your parents for trespassing, and have them thrown in jail.”

  She paled. “You wouldn’t.”

“Watch me. I am tired of this. Either you come willingly, or they pay, what is your choice?”

Tears started down her face. “I will come, jerk. If only to save them.”

“Good girl,” he said, but he felt bad seeing her tears. How else would he get her to come home though? His wolf whimpered. He wanted to comfort his mate.

She turned to the window, tears running down her face. She was headed to a life of hell, and couldn’t do a thing about it.

The rest of the ride was silent and when they pulled up to the palace, the doors were opened and a nice looking man helped Jillian out. He saw her tears and looked at his Alpha. He shook his head at the man.

“Luna, welcome,” the man said, bowing to her.

She looked at the man, and more tears ran down her face, but she didn’t say a word.
