“No. You know how he gets at the idea of me dating anyone in the club. Remember that time Blaze hit on me?”
“And your dad threatened to cut his balls off with a rusty chainsaw? Yeah, I remember. Blaze was walking bowlegged for a weak, he was so freaked out.”
“Besides, it’s nothing right now. We’ve just been chatting a bit lately, and he seems different. A little less scary and a little more like the kind of guy I might want to spend some time with. Did something happen to him out in Colorado?”
I chuckle. “A lot happened in Colorado. But I think I know what you’re getting at. For one thing, Snake found himself a friend who helps him keep his darker impulses under control and allows him to have a little more fun.”
“Oh? Who is he?” She says.
She pours me a margarita and hands it over. I don’t normally go for them, especially since meeting Violet my taste has switched to bourbon, but, in this heat, I drink that ice-cold margarita down with gratitude.
“Not a he. A she.”
Adella perks up. Her eyes narrow. “Who?”
“Josie. The little Speed Demon.”
“An eight-year-old girl?”
“She gets him. And looks up to him like a little sister would. It’s a good thing for him,” I say. “And nothing to be jealous about. Maybe you should bring him a drink and see how he’s doing.”
“I’ll do that,” she says, smiling. I watch her go and notice a bounce in her step that I don’t usually see; Adella’s always the cheerful type but, around Snake, she’s got a little something extra. And, once she gets over to the group and my brothers secure the still to Violet’s satisfaction, Violet calls a break and they all help themselves to a margarita.
Smiling, drink in hand, Violet comes over to me. She’s sweaty, she’s got dusty and grease on her forehead, and she’s the prettiest damn woman I’ve ever seen in my life.
“You’re looking good out there,” I say.
She takes a long drink, grins, and puts her arm around me and presses her body up to mine. Touching her gets me going, and I forget all about the aches and pains in my body from a long day’s work.
“I’m feeling great, Crash. Really great. This has always been a dream of mine and in a day or two, everything should be up and running.”
I kiss her. She tastes like lime and tequila, smells like sweat and sex, and is everything I could ever want.
“I’m happy for you, babe,” I say. “And, for the occasion, I got something for you. Come on, follow me.”
With our arms around each other, we head out of the shed and toward my bike. I pop open one saddlebag and take out the ‘property of’ cut that I’ve been saving for just the right moment.
“I was holding on to this, waiting for the right time, but I think now’s as good as any. We’re about to start something new, your distillery’s about to open, and I want everyone in this town to know that the woman making the best damn booze in the state belongs to me.”
She puts it on. It fits perfect, leather hugging her sweet curves and making my heart go crazy in my chest.
“Thank you, Crash,” she says, coming in close, pressing her chest to me, and kissing me deep. The scent of leather joins the scent of sex and sweat that wraps around her.
God damn, what a woman.
“You’re mine for good, you know,” I say. “Now that I’ve got you, I sure as hell ain’t letting you go.”
“I’m counting on it. Because we’ve got a good thing here, and I’m sure as hell not planning on leaving,” she says. And she gives me another kiss and I run my hands down her back, loving the feel of fresh leather around her — the leather cut that says to everyone that she belongs to me. Fuck, does it ever feel good. “But, as much as I would love to stay out here, I’ve got work to do.”
I watch her go, admiring the view, the way her hips have an extra sway when she’s walking with confidence, the way her shoulders and head are both held high now that she’s on her way to conquering the world. I knew it was risky listening to my heart when I was out on club business, but it sure has paid off in the best kind of way. I watch until that sexy-as-hell woman, with my property cut on her back, disappears into the shed.
She’s mine. All mine.
And I’m never letting her go.
