Terminology
• Darkfall – the day Aaron died and Karanos' rune failed across the Artalonian Empire (This coincides with the first lightfall, and the later Lightfall holiday also remembers the event of Darkfall)
• hungerbound – vampires unable to control their bloodlust
• lightfall – the manifestation of a first generation seelie as an adult, from wisps of light that were remnants of the Otherworld
• unseelie – seelie which failed to integrate their Fae memories and have lost their selves to be possessed by dead Fae personalities
Holidays and Festivals
• Highwinter (Winter Solstice) – Celebrating the quiet of the nighttime and winter, and warmth of the hearth fire against the cold. A time for family and reflection upon the year’s actions while looking ahead to the year to come.
• Lightfall (not celebrated until after the seelie arrived) – Celebrating the arrival of hope.
• Promise Day (Spring Equinox) – Preparation for labor. Celebrating the promise of the year’s bounty. A time to fasten intents to plans. A favored time for weddings.
• Lovers’ Night – Celebrating mortal fertility and life, usually accompanied by a bonfire and dancing.
• Firetide (Summer Solstice) - Celebrating the triumph of Light in the world.
• Harvest Bounty – Celebrating the fruits of the harvest, usually accompanied by a community feast. Celebrating crop fertility. Beer features prominently.
• Trickster’s Night (Autumn Equinox) – Celebrating rest after labor. Night for frivolity and fun without purpose other than joy. A time for comedy, games and jokes. Bard’s are prized for comedic performances.
• Souls’ Night – Remembering the line of ancestors and those who have gone before. Solemn festival. A favored time for weddings as an act of the continuity of life in spite of the oncoming dark.
