Warning Shot Page 16

by Dustin Stevens

In his hand was a basic six-round revolver, every last round expelled.

On the ground at his feet were smear marks in the fresh blood, tracks indicated both shooters to have made it out, fleeing in different directions.

Who the shooters were, Marsh has some ideas. A couple of names that have come up repeatedly over the last week and a half, the chances of their not being involved too remote to consider.

In a couple of hours, he’ll get teams of uniforms to work their way through the neighborhood. He’ll have them knock on doors and ask questions, hoping to confirm what he already suspects.

Until then, his focus has to be on the other side of the equation.

On the six victims found here and the one thing they all have in common. Guys he had been investigating at the very moment he received word of what happened here. Men that, up until stepping inside and seeing them for himself, he would have pegged as his primary suspects.

All of them adorned in the black vests of the motorcycle click known as The Wolves.

The very people responsible for the death of Mira Clady, the initial murder that put all of this into motion.

  Thank You

  Hello again!

First and foremost, as always, I must say thank you. Not only for taking a chance on this particular work, but for following Kyle through what has now been well over a thousand pages…and by extension, for allowing me to embark on something so sprawling and ambitious.

When sitting down to write most novels, the first thing to be fleshed out is always the protagonist. That person that the reader will be riding shotgun alongside, getting a deep dive into their thoughts and motivations.

In this instance, I wanted to have that for sure, but I wanted to go deeper. I wanted the auxiliary characters to be more than just subsidiary, their own thoughts and motivations impacting events as they unfold.

To me, the only way to really do that was to take on something much more substantial in length. To really take things a piece at a time, seeing how everybody moves and reacts, each person playing off of one another.

My hope is that it is turning out as well as intended, and that you’ll be willing to come along a little further toward the conclusion.

As I mention each time, I welcome any thoughts you might have on the story. Whether it be via public review (the lifeblood of this industry) or even direct email, I appreciate all feedback and thank everyone again that has been so kind in writing.

Thanks again, and – as always – happy reading!

  Happy trails,

  Dustin
