Renegades Page 2

  ***

I had finally made it to my parent’s house. After successfully hopping over the back fence, I landed in the pool. I managed to complete this feat every time I went there. I never saw that one coming.

I left all my stuff at school. Chances are, by now, they took it. If I was going to be on the run for the rest of my life, I had to at least tell my mother goodbye. I knew they were going to come and talk to her, and there was a pretty good chance that I was walking right into a trap, but I had to at least try.

The back door to my parent’s house was always iffy. By simply pushing a few vibrations into it in key places the door came unlocked. As I stepped into the house, the first thing I noticed was a set of car keys hanging on the key hook. My mother never left her car keys in plain sight. She used to scold me every time I left them sitting on the table when I was young. They were always in her purse. This meant that someone cleaned this place up. As I began to look around the corner, I saw the gun’s light flashed into my face.

“Crap!” I said as the bullets flew over my head. They really weren’t playing today. They wanted me out of the picture, and I didn’t know why. Well besides that, whole knowing something I wasn’t supposed to know, thing.

While dodging another round of fire, I managed to slide into the kitchen and pull the cop baton that my mother kept from under the table. My father was a former cop, now he works for Attix. None of that mattered right now. Right now I had to find my mother, deal with these under paid pawns, and get out of town.

I slammed the baton into the first idiot brave enough to walk into the kitchen. The second guy wasn’t so hasty, but by throwing the gun into the other part of the house he was easily distracted. The bruise on the side of his head was less viscous than it could have been, I was being generous.

“Two guys, this was easier than the school.” I muttered to myself. They really didn’t know who they were dealing with. That was when I realized how arrogant I was. There was note tapped to the inside of the front door.

  To Mr. Petta

I am sure my two men will not be that much trouble, they are only meant to keep you on your toes after all. If I know you as well as I think I do, your next move is to come after your mother. Yes? Well I have her. 1856 Mockingbird St. Come and get her.

  Sincerely,

  The Watcher

“The Halifax building” was my first thought. Everything about this note and that place haunted my nightmares and screamed “TRAP!” For all I knew, I could be walking into a room full of agents. With odds like that I could be picked apart easily. I had a couple of old friends in the same predicament that I was in, kids who were lost, confused, and just needing to fit in. Kids that were being hunted down mercilessly by a company that was supposed to stand for justice, kids who were angry. They were children who had been forced to grow up far too fast. When it came to fighting Attix, indignation was a good thing.

After kicking the guard one last time I gathered their guns and used all the force I had to break the weapons in half. Then, I took their I.D. cards and headed out of the door.

I knew they were watching me, they have always been watching me. I was stupid to believe that they would keep my mother out of this forever. I guess that father doesn’t have as much pull as he thinks he does. Either that or they are doing this behind his back. Right now he was useless, and it was up to me to bring her back home. If they wanted to see violence, they were about to get their wish. If what they wanted was a war, then I had no qualms about bringing one straight to them.

As I stood in front of the house, I didn’t see any one, but that didn’t mean they didn’t see me. My only option for avoiding detection was to go up, straight up. So, gathering all my propulsion in my legs, I shot straight up through the clouds, past their sensors. Shooting up, like a jet into the night sky.
