Lucky in Love

She looked puzzled and he explained,
“This is a cable to say that we can go home. One day I will tell you all about it, but not now.”
He smiled as he went on,
“If we were sensible we would wait and be married with all our relatives there to see us, but instead I am going to marry you tomorrow, here in New York, so that we can travel home as man and wife.”
As he spoke, he knew, although perhaps it was not so romantic, that it was a prudent thing to do so that there would be no question of Nelda being compromised if she was alone with him.
No one in England would ever be aware that they had spent these days together and the news of what had happened in Denver was not likely to percolate to Buckinghamshire or London.
“I would – rather be married here – so that I can be – alone with you.” Nelda said.
“That is what I want too,” Lord Harleston replied, “and, darling, does it really matter where we are? We have already been in some strange places together and I think it has taught us that the only thing of any consequence in our lives is our love for each other.”
Nelda put her arms around his neck to draw his head down to hers.
“I am so – happy, so wildly wonderfully – happy that I can hardly believe I could be – happier when we are – married.”
“I will make you happy,” Lord Harleston promised. “I will teach you about love, my adorable beautiful wife and make you aware that the love I have for you fills my whole world until there is no room for anything else.”
She gave a little cry of delight.
And then she said,
“We have – found each other and now all I want to do is to – love you from now until – Eternity. We are lucky in love.”
“And the love I have for you,” Lord Harleston added, “will protect and keep you safe and, my darling, prevent you from ever being frightened by anything as long as we are together.”
“I – love you!” Nelda whispered.
Then his lips were on hers and she could no longer speak, but only feel, as he was, that they were flying into the Light of God and the world was left behind them.
