  “Goodbye!”

I turned around and slowly walked back to the taxi.

“What was all that about?” asked the driver.

“Oh nothing....just saying goodbye to old ghosts.” I quietly replied.

“Where to now boss?” asked the driver.

“The airport please and thank you!” I kindly replied.

“Think nothing about it!” replied the driver.

The taxi slowly made it’s way from the field of lavender towards Norwich’s main airport, the sun had started to poke itself from the grey clouds in the sky as the driver commented on it...

“Looks like it’s gonna be good day today!” he said.

“Yes.....it looks like it is!” I replied.

The taxi soon arrived at the Main terminal, I paid the driver what I owed him with a little extra thrown in as a tip, turned from him and slowly walked into the airport.

Not once looking back behind me.....

Epilogue: The Land Of The Free

  Five Hours Later...

“Would you like anymore Champagne Sir?” asked the stewardess towards the middle aged gentleman.

“Why not!...you only live once don’t you.” joked the middle aged gentleman.

The stewardess poured a fresh glass of bubbling Champagne into the man’s glass...

“Enjoy the rest of your flight Sir.” replied the stewardess as she continued down the aisle to the rest of the passengers on the plane.

A young woman who was sitting opposite the man smiled sweetly as their eyes met...

“Are you on vacation?” she asked.

“Kind of.....it’s my first time away from home.” I replied

“Oh it’s so good to spread your wings and go see the outside world.” the woman explained.

“I am travelling to America to see family and friends...what about you?” the woman asked.

“Too see the sights and open my old eyes to a much brighter world than I am use to.” I replied.

“It’s good to see behind these walls” I replied as I looked out of the side window, as the plane lurched across the sky and The Statue of Liberty came into my view....

I tasted the sweet taste of the Champagne and I realised....

my journey had only just begun...
