I let out a tired sigh. “Thank God!”
“It’s your last scene, right?”
“Yup.” My co-star is one of the newest screen gods stealing hearts from the UK to Australia. His British accent is crisp and delightful. The women on the set can’t seem to get enough of it.
“You want to hang out tonight? Get a drink, celebrate?”
I shake my head. “I’ll be celebrating,” I tell him, grinning. Just not with him.
Outside, the air is sharp and cold. Around us, the Swiss countryside is different shades of green, and in the distance, the blue of far-off mountain ranges are topped with white, like the mountains in a Christmas card. I take a deep breath, then head for my trailer, pulling my phone out of my jacket pocket at the same time.
The last message from Aidan is from about an hour ago.
Plane landed. Heading to you. I have a surprise.
What surprise? My heart is skipping as I type a quick reply.
Where are you?
No answer.
I hear running footsteps behind me. It’s my set assistant, a multilingual Swiss angel called Gigi.
“You haven’t said if you’ll be needing a ride to town,” she says in French-accented English. “or when. The hotel is on standby waiting for confirmation…”
I shake my head. “I’m fine, Gigi. You’ve been great.”
She smiles. “Thank you. Working for you has been a dream come true.”
I make my way to my trailer. I’ve already said my goodbyes to the others on set. Hair and makeup, the lighting people. Another job done. Another success, and now, back to what really matters.
I open the door.
Aidan is standing just inside, his tall frame dwarfing the warm, spacious interior. It’s a luxurious trailer, the best…for the best. He turns around when the door opens, his perfection breathtaking, from the wavy hair that frames his head to his long legs, his heartbreakingly beautiful face, his sensuous mouth… it takes every bit of self control to keep me from launching myself at him like a child.
“You’re here already!”
“I am.”
“I thought you’d be another hour at least.”
He grins and my heart somersaults in my chest. Five years of him being mine, and I still can’t get enough of him. We never go more than a few weeks without seeing each other, no matter what we’re working on, and still sometimes, I want to toss all my work out of the window and focus only on being the woman by his side.
“Are you going to stand there ogling me and letting the cold in, or am I going to get to kiss you at some point?” he teases.
I close the door and walk into his arms. He wraps them around me, and I sigh contentedly. “I’m hoping for more than kisses.”
He claims my mouth in a warm, tender melding of our lips, and it feels like heaven. More than heaven. I moan into his mouth. The journey to the chateau he has rented for the next week can wait. I want him now.
“Mommy!”
The piping voice from the rear of the trailer interrupts us, and I tear my lips from Aidan’s just before the three and a half foot tall projectile of perfection launches into my arms.
“My angel.” I scatter kisses all over her face and hair. “My darling angel.”
“I told you I had a surprise,” Aidan is smiling in satisfaction. “Rachel wanted her for a week. Penny, apparently was looking forward to having her cousin around, but guess who just had to see her mommy or nothing?”
“Me!” Ella pipes up. My three-year-old miracle who’s a perfect mixture of Aidan and me.
“And guess who is so happy to see you?” I croon.
“You!” She answers, giggling.
I look over her head at Aidan. “Thank you,” I mouth.
He grins, then looks at his watch. “The plane is waiting. Why don’t we get started, and maybe in a few hours, we can do something about the hope you expressed earlier?”
I give him a curious look. “What hope?”
One devilishly perfect eyebrow quirks. “For more than kisses.”
“Ah…” I return his smile. “I can hardly wait.”
