I don't know why I hadn't just gotten out of my pod. It was either because I could clearly see that I was moving but very slowly on the map, my target was relatively nearby, and I wanted to crawl out of the bog before leaving Dis... Or it was the strange cold whisper sounding out in my head, giving me words of encouragement. I started to feel that I was doing everything right and heading exactly where I needed to go. And that feeling kept me going.
At first the voice was like an indistinct rustling of someone else's thoughts in my head. Broken fragments of sentences, with a refrain running through them like:
"Co-ome... Helllp... Ha-as ar-r-ri-iv-ved..."
And with every foot I went the right direction, it grew stronger and spoke more often.
"Co-ome... Go-o-od... Ex-xce-el-ent... Co-ome..."
It was also approving of every swamp monster I killed:
"Wo-on-nde-er-rfu-ul... Mo-o-ore... Ag-gain..."
The dead monsters disappeared, dissolving into wisps of inky blackness and heading in the same direction as me. And then I realized the voice was also growing stronger with every leech I killed.
And that very same voice greeted me when my head stuck up above the surface. Then I pulled myself out with difficulty:
"You m-ma-ade iit... Fi-in-na-al-ly a sui-uit-ta-ab-ble spe-ecimen... Finally..."
Everything around was slightly vibrating, and a monotone hum was coming up from under the earth. I raised my head and I saw a small island the size of my room and overgrown with sickly grass. The feeling that I was where I belonged grew stronger. And it wasn't merely the quest from town drunk Patrick, who told me to come here and help some spirit.
This spirit had a name.
Behemoth, Sleeping God
Level: ???
"You c-c-ca-ame, Scyth..." his voice rustled in my head. "Have you come to help?"
"Yes, Behemoth. I have come to help."
"Wo-on-n-nd-der-f-f-ful..." the spirit was suddenly right next to me. "Let me in..."
So I did.

About the Author
DAN SUGRALINOV grew up in a small working-class town on the Russian border with Kazakhstan. It’s a miracle he survived his childhood games of hide-and-seek in the surrounding building sites complete with perilous rebar structures and flooded foundation pits.
Ever since he learned to read at the age of five, he couldn’t put a book down. Reluctant to earn himself the name of a conceited nerd, he concentrated on playing soccer which allowed him to become friends with the town’s toughest kids.
In 1995, he graduated with h
onors, entering the St Petersburg Academy of Engineering and Economics where he studied business creation. He must have done something right because in the years that followed, he first worked on TV and radio just to get the taste of it, then opened his first successful business followed by several more. In between, he started writing and playing video games, winning the St Petersburg Mortal Kombat championship and becoming runner-up for Starcraft and Warcraft 3. He is a 14-times champion in Quake, Quake 2 and Quake 3 as well as the world’s ex-#1 in the World of Warcraft.
In 2004, he wrote his first motivational novella The Bricks which to date has garnered him over 3,000,000 readers online alone.
In 2014, Russia’s leading publishers of business literature Mann, Ivanov & Ferber published a revised and extended edition of his book, The Bricks 2.0.
In 2015, Dan discovered the existence of LitRPG. He devoured everything that had been written in that genre until he finally decided he too could write similar books.
In summer 2017, he published his first book in the subgenre of RealRPG: Level Up.
Dan Sugralinov is a consummate gamer, a multiple MMORPG champion and the world’s ex-#1 in the World of Warcraft. He is also a successful businessman and author of books on marketing and business organization. His first LitRPG series Level Up took Russia by storm in 2017. The English translation of the series is about to be released on Amazon in its entirety.
