Paxton,
The game is still afoot. If you want to know why your wife died, look into something called Xytophyl.
All the best,
Alvin Perry, aka Reuben Hayes
PS: It is never too late to become what you were meant to be.
I stare at the page, not comprehending anything at the moment. Xytophyl sounds like a drug, but what would Veronica have to do with it? This makes no sense. Knowing he was going to die, why would Perry write this message and go to such elaborate measures to get it to me? Was this his final game?
He certainly knew that Veronica is my Achilles Heel. Is this his last-ditch bid for control by getting under my skin and making me spin my wheels endlessly?
The skin on the back of my neck prickles. That same feeling of being watched descends over me. It presses down on me like a stone. I look up and stare through the windshield. I see two men, one in a charcoal gray suit and the other in a dark blue suit, standing with a corrections officer. Judging by the way the sun glints off a few stars on the man’s collar, I’d say he’s probably a pretty high ranking CO. All three are staring straight at me.
A dark, ominous feeling envelops me as I stare back at them. It could be a coincidence. Just a matter of happenstance that they’re standing at the gate, speaking with some anonymous high-ranking CO, staring at me like they want to kill me. It’s possible it’s nothing. Maybe I’m letting the paranoia of the guard inside bleed over into the day beyond the walls.
But everything inside of me is ringing wildly. Every warning bell and red flag is going off, urging me to get out of here. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned in my life, it’s to always trust my instincts.
I fold the letter and slip it back into my pocket, then start my car and pull out of the lot. I keep my eyes on the rearview mirror, looking for a tail, but don’t see one.
“Doesn’t mean they’re not back there though,” I mutter.
I drive on and think about Perry’s note. Xytophyl. I have no idea what it is, nor what the connection to Veronica— or her death— might be, but I am going to find out. I have no idea where it will lead and given the fact that somebody was potentially able to get to a high-profile prisoner like Perry to silence him, it might be dangerous. But I need answers. I deserve answers. More than that though, Veronica deserves answers.
And so, I drive on.
THE END
Thank you!
I hope you enjoyed I See You, book one in Arrington Mystery Series.
My intention is to give you a thrilling adventure and an entertaining escape with each and every book.
However, I need your help to continue writing.
Being a new indie writer is tough.
I don't have a large budget, huge following, or any of the cutting edge marketing techniques.
So, all I kindly ask is that if you enjoyed this book, please take a moment of your time and leave me a review
and maybe recommend the book to a fellow book lover or two.
This way I can continue to write all day and night and bring you more books.
I cannot wait to share with you the upcoming sequel!

Tick. Tock… The clock is ticking.
Time is running out for Paxton Arrington.
The choice he must make could be the difference between life and death.
Paxton Arrington had an upbringing of wealth and privilege.
Rather than live the life of a corporate CEO, Paxton chose to become one of Seattle’s finest.
He’s a man with a rigid and unyielding personality and a belief of always doing the right thing.
When he stumbles onto corruption in his own precinct, Paxton finds himself in a precarious position with no simple way out of it.
Going head to head with Detective Sergeant Radley and his

Drawn into a web of deceit and danger. Paxton enlists his good friend, FBI Special Agent Blake Wilder to help him get the evidence he needs to bring the Strike Team down once and for all.
With forces aligning against him, Paxton must make a decision that could cost him everything.
