Complete Me (The Trust Me Series Book 4) Page 10

by K E Osborn

  Fuck!

I plunge my tongue into her mouth as my cock grows rock hard for her again.

I’ll never get tired of fucking Sarah.

We walk into the hospital, Sarah with a bunch of flowers and a balloon, and me carrying Ethan on my hip. He’s so obsessed with the ‘It’s a Boy’ balloon that I’m not sure Jeni’s actually going to be able to keep it. I told Sarah that Ethan would want it, but that’s beside the point.

We walk into the maternity ward and find our way to Jeni’s private room.

“Now, baby boy, remember no jumping on Auntie Jeni, okay?” Sarah reminds Ethan.

As we step inside the room, the first people we see are Mike and Callie.

There are flowers everywhere, and the smell smacks me in the face.

Aiden’s sitting in a chair half asleep, and Jeni’s nursing their boy.

“Congratulations,” Sarah gushes as she rushes in leaving Ethan and me behind.

“Hey,” Jeni murmurs as she looks up at us.

“We got here as soon as we could. How are you feeling? ‘Cause you look like shit!” I ask.

“Shit, shit, shit,” Ethan calls out.

  “Chris!” Sarah berates.

“What, Jeni knows I tell the truth. Don’t you, Jen?”

“Yeah, it’s all good, Sarah. I know I look like crap. I’m so freaking tired and completely and utterly exhausted, but it’s all worth it for our little man.”

“So, what’s his name?” Sarah questions.

Jeni looks up at me with a smile on her face. “Brody Michael Christopher O’Connell,” she beams looking straight at me.

I’m shocked to the spot. I have no idea what to say, so I look at Mike, who’s grinning at me while I stand here with my mouth open wide.

“I know, it’s an amazing feeling having someone named after you, isn’t it, Chris?” Mike states.

Well, damn! I instantly feel my eyes brim with tears, but I hold them back to keep my balls firmly in place. “I, ah… I don’t know what to say?” I mumble as I walk toward Jeni and Brody.

“Say thank you, you dickwad,” Sarah berates.

  “Dickwad, dickwad,” Ethan calls out.

“Bad word, Ethan,” I chide, and Sarah grimaces.

Normally, I’m the one teaching Ethan all the bad words.

“Thanks, guys, you don’t know what this means to me.” Pride floods through me, as I look down on Brody’s cute little face. Ethan starts to wriggle, so I place him down, and he runs over to Aiden and jumps on his lap.

“Hey, little man.” Aiden pulls him into a hug and turns him to sit.

Sarah sits on the edge of Jeni’s bed and gushes over little Brody while I pull up a seat next to Aiden and Mike. “Thanks for naming him after me, dude. You really didn’t have to do that.”

“After everything you’ve done for us, it was the least we could do,” Aiden beams.

“How you doing?” I question, and he raises his eyebrows.

“I don’t know how people do this more than once. I’m exhausted, and I didn’t do anything. It was Jeni who did all the work. She was amazing, and I’m totally in awe of her.”

I smile because I know that exact feeling. “It’s a crazy experience, don’t you think?”

I can’t help but notice Mike’s face. He has a saddened look plastered all over it, and tears are brimming in his eyes.

  I wonder what that’s about?

“It’s the scariest, most beautiful thing I’ve ever been a part of. But it’s all worth it for that little man right there. I never knew I could love so unconditionally the instant I met him. But with Brody… I don’t know, I think I’m going soft.” Aiden chuckles.

“Nah, man, you’ve always been soft,” I joke.

Aiden rolls his eyes and laughs as a nurse walks in and checks on Jeni and Brody. She looks up to Ethan and smiles. “Hey, little man, how are you doing today?”

“Shit, shit, shit,” Ethan calls out loudly.

“Oh my God, Ethan, no. I’m so sorry he’s repeating everything we say—”

“It’s okay, I know how it is. I have a three-year-old at home who won’t stop saying ‘for Christ sake.’ It’s very embarrassing when your partner’s parents are devout Catholics.” She chuckles, and Ethan luckily doesn’t repeat that one.

We laugh, and the nurse walks back out as Sarah steps over to me holding Brody. She sits in my lap, and I can’t help but get giddy. I know I’ve agreed to wanting another baby, but sitting here with Sarah and Brody has cemented it for me. I can’t wait to have another child with the love of my life.

“He looks so much like Aiden,” Sarah coos as she strokes Brody’s cheek.

“Did you just call your best friend’s child ugly?” I tease, looking directly at Aiden.

He punches me in the arm. Hard. “F’off, dude, my son is smoking hot,” Aiden retorts.

“I think it’s illegal for anyone to call a newborn ‘smoking hot,’ Aiden,” Sarah jokes.

“Yeah, you’re probably right. Point taken, but you have to admit in all seriousness, we’ve made a damn cute kid, right?” Aiden asks.

“Yeah, he’s adorable. Great job, dude. You did good.” I pat him on the arm.

I can tell how proud he is of his son and Jeni. The way Aiden keeps looking at Jeni with nothing but adoration in his eyes, well, I guess that’s what their relationship is all about. You can tell they complete each other. I know because it’s exactly the same with Sarah and me.

We stay at the hospital with our best friends for as long as possible before Jeni’s mother arrives to take over baby snuggling duties. Ethan gets far too worked up with all the commotion and people and unfortunately, we have to leave. So we let Jeni and Aiden get some much needed rest.

Callie and Mike join us as we all head to the parking lot. “I can’t believe they named their firstborn after us. Mike, you must be so happy?” I ask.

Mike’s face lights up with a smile so bright I think his cheeks could possibly burst. “You have no idea what it means to me, Chris… to Callie and me. I honestly had no idea they were going to. We knew his name was going to be Brody, but they never said anything about his name until we came in this morning. I’m the proudest dad in the world… um, stepdad, I mean. Obviously,” he says, suddenly sounding like he’s just said something out of place, so I nod and smile. I look at Callie who’s staring at Mike with scrunched eyebrows.

What the hell is that all about?

“All right, guys. We’re just over here.” I point. “We’ll catch you later,” I announce.

Ethan runs up to Callie for a hug. She picks him up and holds onto him tightly. “Bye, bye, darling,” she coos and gives him a kiss on his cheek and then puts him down.

  “Bye, bye, darwing,” he replies.

“C’mon, little guy. Let’s get you some dinner.”

Callie and Mike walk away, and I’m surprised we got out of Jeni’s room without having to take the balloon with us. I think Ethan was too distracted by Brody, which is a good thing.

Sarah places Ethan into his car seat, gets into the passenger side of the car, and we head home. Ethan falls asleep in the back of the car with ease.

“I think Aiden was doing well… considering, don’t you?” I ask Sarah as we walk up to our front door.

“I think he’s doing great. I know how scared he is about being a dad, but he doesn’t need to worry. He’s nothing like Niall. If I didn’t know better, I’d say they weren’t even related because they’re that different from each other. A bit like chalk and cheese,” I mention.

“Tell me about it. Well, I definitely know you’re related to your dad.” She smirks.

  “Okay, I’ll bite… why’s that?”

“Because you both belch and fart exactly the same, and when you do fart, they stink like the sewer. Your ass is disgusting.” Sarah slaps me on the ass as she walks past.

“Yeah, Daddy, your ass is disgusting,” Ethan calls out.

“Ethan, baby, don’t say stuff li
ke that… bad words, remember?” Sarah reminds him looking back at me and grimacing with a smile.

I chuckle as I make a start on dinner.

Sarah’s been off ‘the pill’ for six months, but nothing’s happened so far. It’s strange to think that Ethan was an accident nearly three years ago, and how different our lives are now. But I wouldn’t change it for the world. I love my little family.

We went to the doctor today to get all the information for Sarah and what we should be doing to increase her chance of conceiving. So, now at least, we know the right vitamins to help us along. I know she’s becoming frustrated and wants it to happen as soon as possible, but I guess it’s so precise that we have to hit at the right time in her cycle and, of course, ‘the pill’ has to be out of her system. Sarah has all these alerts going off on her phone telling us when we need to get down and dirty. Who knew it could be so challenging to get pregnant, considering how easy it was the first time. But it will happen when it’s meant to. That’s what I keep trying to tell her—it will happen eventually.

I walk into the bedroom where Sarah’s taking her pills, and she seems a little down.

“Hey, babe, what’s up?” I walk around to her side of the bed and sit next to her. She looks up at me as tears form in her eyes, so I lean in and wrap my arm around her.

“Hey, talk to me. What’s going on in that pretty little head of yours?”

“I thought it would’ve happened by now. I mean, I know I have to give it time, but I guess I thought we got pregnant with Ethan so easily that I assumed it would happen right away,” she mumbles.

“Sarah, I know we both thought you’d be knocked up by now, but everything happens for a reason, babe, and you know we’ll get there. Like you said, it takes time, and we’ve got plenty of time. So, try not to get upset. This time next week, we could be laughing about it and buying baby bottles,” I say, trying to calm her.

Damn, I hate seeing her upset. It kills me. So I make the decision to go to the doctor and have my swimmers tested just in case. We know she has no trouble conceiving, so maybe it’s me who has the problem? And if it is, I want to fix it, so I can fix her. I can’t stand seeing my bright and bubbly wife like this.

After visiting the doctor for some testing, he told me that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with me or my little guys. As a matter of fact, he said they’re in perfect working order, and that I had a large sperm count.

As much as that made me happy, it also concerned me because now there’s nothing I can do to help Sarah and how she’s feeling.

A year passes without any luck, but Jeni’s noticed the decline in her best friend. She spoke to me about it and even though Sarah doesn’t want anyone to know we’re trying, I had to tell Jeni and Aiden because they knew something was off, and they were worried. They both thought we were having a rough patch, and Jeni was concerned we were going to split, but that’s the farthest from the truth.

Sarah’s starting to become a defeatist about the whole baby idea. Nothing we are doing is working. Ethan is four and a half, and Sarah says once he reaches five, the age gap will be too big, and she wants us to stop trying. I can tell she really doesn’t want that, but I can understand the age gap thing. Ethan will be at school, and to have a baby in the house will distract him from his schoolwork. So, I have just over six months to knock her up.

But in the meantime, we have to go about business as normal, and today it’s Brody’s first birthday, and Sarah has organized the party. She’s finally been able to use her barnyard animals idea for one of her events. The only time she’s happy is when she’s event planning, but the bright spark that is Sarah has all but diminished. She’s still in there and pops out every now and then, but it’s rare, and I don’t know what to do to help her. I know how badly she wants another baby, and I’m starting to think that maybe I’ll have to suggest IVF, but I know how much she hates needles. She also worries about money, but if that’s what it takes to get my wife back to her fun-loving self, then I’ll work extra hard at Vinchenzo’s. I know Tony will give me more shifts if I need them.

Walking up the driveway to Aiden and Jeni’s home, I notice the child-friendly carnival theme rides out the side and the barnyard pens are all set up. Ethan’s pretty happy about coming here today as he walks up to the door holding a giant present for Brody. I ring the doorbell while Sarah fixes her dress.

“You okay?” I ask, and she looks at me and smiles.

“I’m good. Today should be fun, right, Ethan?” Sarah tousles his hair.

“Yep,” is all he replies as the door opens.

Ethan shoves the parcel toward Jeni, and she smiles and takes it. “It’s for Brody,” Ethan tells her, and he rushes in past her toward Brody in his highchair having lunch.

“Come on in. Sarah, you’ve done an amazing job with everything, as usual,” Jeni says.

“Thanks. I did what I thought my next child’s first birthday would look like,” she mumbles.

Jeni looks at me, and I shake my head. Jeni wants to tell Sarah she knows we’ve been trying, but I think it will make Sarah feel worse if she thought everyone felt sorry for her.

“Well, Aiden and I certainly appreciate it, and so does Brody. He had so much fun out there with the baby animals before you arrived,” Jeni says and leads Sarah off into the kitchen.

I walk out onto the deck and see Aiden feeding Brody with Ethan on his lap—and women say that men can’t multi-task.

“Hey, have to go on that teacup ride with Ethan. He’ll love it. Brody did until he chucked up all over me,” Aiden jokes.

“Can we go on it, Daddy. Can we?” Ethan begs.

“Of course, we can, little dude,” I agree.

Ethan jumps down from Aiden’s lap and rushes over to me. I pick him up and squeeze him tight. God, I love him, and I can’t believe he’s growing up so quickly. He’ll be going to school next year.

While I take Ethan for a ride, I see Sarah talking to Callie and Jeni, and she’s smiling, so I guess they’re talking about Callie and Mike’s wedding. I know her outrageous plans have calmed down, and she’s realizing you can do extravagant but make it classy at the same time. I’m sure Callie’s loving all of Sarah’s new and improved much more sensible ideas.

I sit in the teacup and hold on to Ethan as it spins us around and around. Ethan has his hands in the air and is laughing and cheering. I fucking love my kid. He’s adventurous just like me.

Another year passes, and Ethan has been at school for six months, so the deadline of Sarah and me having another child is well and truly over. Sarah seems to be back to her old self, and even though we’re not actively trying to get pregnant anymore, doesn’t mean we aren’t still having crazy, wicked sex. Especially with Ethan at school, whenever I have a day off, we always spend it in bed with strawberries.

Sarah and I have a fabulous night planned tonight. It’s my birthday, and on the weekend, we’re heading up to the lake house with Aiden and Jeni to celebrate, but tonight, Trish is taking Ethan, and Sarah and I have the house to ourselves. She wants to cook me dinner for a change, which I appreciate, but it’s not necessary. Plus, she always burns absolutely everything, which only makes me laugh.

I walk inside. I’m not sure what she’s cooking, but it smells damn good, which surprises me.

“Hey, babe, that smells great,” I tell Sarah while I wrap my arms around her waist as she continues to stir something on the stove.

“Thanks, I’ve been practicing all week.”

“You have?” I question, leaning in and kissing her cheek.

“Yep. When you were at work, I cooked this meal three times.”

I feel proud of her and utterly speechless that she’s trying so hard for me. “Wait! Where did all the food go?”

“I ate it all. Hence, the potbelly I now have. See the things I do for you?” Sarah turns in my grasp and faces me.

“I know something you can do for me,” I mumble suggestively.

  She laughs. “Later, babe.
Let me feed you first and then dessert. Presents can come later,” she states, then kisses me quickly and turns back around to face the stove.

“Hmm… presents, hey? I thought we agreed on no presents this year?” I inquire as she smiles brightly.

  She’s up to something!

“It’s nothing big, it’s quite small actually, hardly a present at all,” she expresses and stirs, smiling away like she’s in on some huge secret.

She is definitely up to something!

“Okay, feed me, woman. I’m wasting away here,” I groan and slap her ass.

Sarah squeals, the sound is delightful to my ears. It’s nice to have my Sarah back. It’s taken two years for us to move past the ‘having a baby’ thing, but I think she’s finally accepted it, and in doing so, she’s back to her old self. Thank fuck!

“Oh yeah, you scrawny thing you. If you turn sideways, you’d be invisible you’re so tiny,” she mocks, pointing to my chiseled chest.

Okay, so I’m built and have a toned and fit body. What can I say, I’m gifted!

“Yeah, that’s right, tell it how it is, little miss pot belly,” I tease, pointing to her tiny gut with a small bump. She laughs, and I walk over to the dining table and take a seat.

“Okay, it’s nearly ready,” she announces, and my stomach growls loudly.

  I’m starving!

“Awesome. Can you give me a double serving? I’m fading away here?” I get an oven mitt thrown at my head in response. I can hear her banging and crashing, but I don’t bother to look. I know my culinary skills will kick in, and I’ll end up telling her what to do, which won’t end well. So, I leave it because I know she’s really trying. But whatever it is, it smells incredible.

“Okay, I gave you extra. Hope you like it?” She says it more like a question than a statement.

  “I will love it, babe.”

A huge portion of lasagna is placed in front of me. I have to give her credit, it looks perfect, and she’s even made a béchamel sauce and poured it over the top.
