Shit yeah.

My woman was always ready for me.

  29. Quinn

I still had no idea what to make of last night. I hadn’t said much to him, because I already knew he’d tell me not to worry, and then ask me to trust him. I didn’t want to fight with him, so it was easier to just act like I believed his story. I knew it was a load of shit... I just couldn’t figure out what he was really doing out there in the middle of the night.

  I’ll worry about it later.

I perched myself on the edge of his bed and slipped my foot into the thigh-high stockings I was wearing to work today. I pulled them up over my ankle and slowly slid the silky fabric up my calf muscle and over my knee. My hair fell loosely over my shoulders and tickled at my bare back. I repeated the process on the other leg.

I was startled by Harrison clearing his throat from the doorway.

I smiled as I drank his appearance in. He was wearing nothing but a pair of pajama bottoms, slung low on his hips. He was leaning against the doorframe holding a bowl of cornflakes. I couldn’t see inside the bowl, but I knew that’s what was in there. He’d eaten the same breakfast every day that I’d stayed.

  “Jesus, Quinn,” he growled.

“What?” I stood up and clipped the suspenders together on my thighs.

  “Fuck,” he muttered.

I looked back up at him. The burning desire in his eyes took me by surprise – I’d only finished with him thirty minutes ago.

“I’ve never had a woman use putting clothes on as foreplay before,” he growled as he set his bowl down on the set of drawers.

“Foreplay?” I smirked. “I’m just dressing for work,” I insisted. “I swear.”

I knew that look he was giving me. I’d learned that look pretty bloody quick.

  He wants me.

  “Not anymore you’re not.”

I took a deliberate step back, away from him. “No way. I’m running late already thanks to you and him.” I pointed accusingly at his crotch.

“You and I both know that there’s only one way this is going.”

He was right. Seeing him prowl towards me like that was one hell of a turn on. But it didn’t mean that I had to make it easy for him.

As if I have a choice.

We both knew he was the boss in the bedroom. If he wanted it, he took it, and I gave it, willingly – more than willingly. I found myself begging for it. Every other area of our relationship we gave and took. No one wore the pants, as such. But when it came to sex, I was more than content with how he played it.

  Arrogant and in charge.

“Give it up, Quinn,” he murmured as I moved back from the bed.

He prowled towards me, following my steps back until I hit the wall with a soft thud. I gasped at the gleam in his eye as he caged me against the wall.

“Well, well, well.” He grinned. “Quite a compromising position you’ve found yourself in, Miss Pierce.”

I was standing in front of him in my underwear, thigh-highs, and suspenders.

“I’ll be late,” I whispered, not really caring anymore.

“Put your heels on,” he instructed, releasing me from his cage.

I narrowed my eyes, but complied, strolling over to the closet, giving him his first glimpse of the thong I was wearing.

  “Jesus Christ,” he muttered.

I bent down seductively as I reached for my heels and slipped them on.

“You keep that teasing up, Quinn, and I’ll have to do something about it.”

A shiver ran over my skin at his threat. I suddenly had a deep desire to misbehave.

I stood upright, heels in place and turned to face him.

  “Perfect,” he praised me.

I wiggled my ass in response.

He’d stripped his pajama pants when my back was turned and stood only in a pair of black briefs.

He prowled towards me again, pinning me to the spot with his stare. He reached down under my ass and hoisted me into his arms, my legs wrapping around his waist out of habit. He backed me up against the door frame.

“You trying to get me all riled up, Skippy?” he growled, his stubble scraping roughly at the skin under my ear.

  I shrugged. “Maybe.”

He nipped at my earlobe, dragging it into his mouth, sucking and nibbling on it.

I gasped. He knew that was my weakness. It turned me on beyond belief.

“What do you want?” I moaned as he repeated the action on my other earlobe, his erection pressing into my belly.

“You,” he replied. “Bent over the side of the bed,” he instructed as he set me back down on my feet.

I complied, slipping around his body and heading for the bed on shaking legs.

He slapped my ass as I passed him, and I shuddered, already wanting more.

I didn’t know it was possible for a man to have an immediate effect on me the way he did, but when he decided he wanted me, I was ready for him.

I folded myself over the side of the bed, my ass in the air and waited.

I could hear him behind me, but he was yet to touch me again. Excitement coursed through my veins.

  “Stop squirming,” he ordered.

I froze. I hadn’t even realized I’d been doing it.

“Do you want me, Quinn?” he asked from somewhere behind me.

“Yes,” I breathed. Saying that I wanted him was the understatement of the century. I’d never wanted a man more than I wanted him.

I needed him to touch me.

“Do you want me to touch you, Quinn?” he asked as his fingers lightly brushed my hip.

  “Yes,” I moaned.

His hand landed firmly on my ass, just hard enough to sting, but not hard enough to leave a mark.

I’d never been spanked before Harrison had come into my life, and I was shocked at how much I enjoyed it.

A deep moan escaped my lips.

His fingers roamed the edge of my thong, pulling it to the side. His hands gripped my waist as he pushed himself inside me.

  “Harrison,” I groaned.

I loved it when he fucked me like this. He was so deep.

He thrust in and out and I pushed back against him, taking him in as far as I could.

Neither of us stood a chance.

I came quickly, and he followed with a guttural moan only seconds after.

He collapsed on top of my body, panting for breath.

“Now I’m really late.” I giggled.

He nipped my shoulder with his teeth as he pulled out of me.

“It was fucking worth it,” he growled as he flipped me onto my back and kissed me deeply.

“Go clean up and I’ll drop you off.”

I watched him stroll towards the bathroom and sighed. His tight body glistened with a fine layer of sweat.

That man is too sexy for his own good.

“Does Law ever go running in the middle of the night?” I questioned El as we ate our lunch in her office.

She frowned. “Um. No. Why?” She looked at me like I was crazy.

“I woke up last night and Harrison was gone.”

She tilted her head to the side. “What do you mean he was gone?”

“Well that’s the thing... I’m not sure. I woke up at half past midnight... he didn’t come back until two. He told me he went for a run.”

  “That’s odd.”

  I nodded in agreement.

“You don’t think he’s lying do you?”

  Is he lying to me?

“I know he was lying to me. He’s got tells. He better not keep doing this to me, El... I don’t know what the hell’s going on with him, but he disappears one more time and I swear I’m walking out.”

“Did you ask him?” El asked, her blue eyes watching me, taking in every word I was saying, and all the things I wasn’t saying, simultaneously.

“Yeah. That’s when I got the ‘I went for a run’ story. I fell asleep while he was taking a shower.”

  “You might be ove
rreacting,” she added with a knowing smirk.

“Possibly,” I agreed. “Hell, if he wants to go running in the night, then power to him, but I know he lied to me and I want to know why. He’s hiding something from me, El, and I’m tired of being in the dark.”

“Did you fight again?” she asked.

  I shook my head. “No.”

I didn’t want to tell her that I’d let my emotions get the better of me. I wasn’t the girl that cried because she was on her own for a couple of hours – that wasn’t me. Harrison Hunt was breaking down my defenses bit by bit and leaving me vulnerable. I wasn’t sure how to handle it.

“Really?” she asked in disbelief. “The two of you had something go down and didn’t fight about it?”

I narrowed my eyes at her even though she was right. We fought like cats and dogs. But they were nothing fights... just silly little arguments that always got resolved quickly.

  It’s not a big deal.

“Yes, the two of us had a conversation without fighting. Shocking, I know,” I replied sarcastically.

She raised an eyebrow at me. “It is shocking. You two are all sex and fire. I don’t know how the hell you make it work.”

  I just smirked and shrugged.

She rolled her eyes. “Did you talk about it this morning?”

I thought back to this morning and I could feel the blush staining my cheeks.

Not a lot of talking this morning...

I opened my mouth to answer her, but she interrupted me by holding up her hand.

“Uh uh. See? I know that face, and I don’t need to hear it.”

West chose that exact moment to walk into Ellerslie’s office, carrying his salad.

“Oh, somebody got laid.” He pointed at me with a grin. “Spill it. I want all the goss on hotty-mc-hot-bod.”

I burst out laughing. “God you’re just so gay sometimes, West.”

“It’s the best way to be, girlfriend,” he replied without missing a beat.

West was always so positive; nothing ever seemed to get him down for very long.

I looked at El. “Sorry, girl, majority rules!”

She rolled her eyes and Weston winked at me before I launched into just how mind-blowing that morning had been.

  30. Harrison

This week started so fucking well...

I sat down heavily in my chair and let my forehead rest on the desk.

  What a fucking day.

It had been the worst day in court I’d had in a long time.

I’d lost a case. A big case. A case where a young woman was depending on me to come through for her.

  And I failed.

I knew it wasn’t my fault – the accused had pulled some bullshit on the stand and somehow convinced the jury he was innocent.

  Bunch of fools.

There was no way... no way in hell was that scum innocent.

He’d be back on the street this evening, looking for his next victim.

I decided then and there that I’d be out there too... putting a stop to it.

  ***

“What’s up your ass?” Quinn snapped at me.

I breathed out a deep breath and tried to keep my cool. What happened today wasn’t Quinn’s fault. I needed to remember that.

“Nothing,” I murmured. “Can you pass the milk?”

“You don’t have milk in your coffee.” She stood with her hands on her hips.

Keep your cool... keep your cool.

  “Today I do.”

She scowled at me and passed the bottle over.

“Don’t be a drama queen, Skippy. Not today.”

  Deep breath in...

“I am not a drama queen,” she hissed. “You’re the one in the mood.”

“Jesus, Quinn, can you just leave it alone?” I snapped.

She opened her mouth to do the opposite.

“Just stop talking or I’m outta here.”

“Forget it. I’ll just leave.” She turned on her heel and stormed out of the kitchen.

“It’s your house, Skippy,” I called after her as she headed for the front door.

“Screw you, Harrison,” she yelled back. I heard her change direction and stomp towards the back of the house.

“Then you leave!” she hollered. “Zero fucks given, Harrison. ZERO.”

  Fuck my life.

  Worst day ever.

  31. Quinn

I paced the room nervously. I felt like a little kid sneaking around behind her parents back to ring her friend when she’d been told not to.

He answered on the second ring.

  “Hey, Q, what’s up?”

If there was anyone who knew what the hell was going on with Harrison, it was Reeve. Once I’d gotten over my anger I’d decided there was something wrong with Harrison – he wasn’t usually such a dickhead.

“Hey, how are you?” I answered nervously.

  “I’m good. You?”

  “Good,” I replied, stalling.

“Spit it out, Q, we both know you didn’t ring to make small talk.”

I blew out a deep breath.

“Something’s wrong with Harrison,” I told him.

“What do you mean?” I heard him shut a door in the background.

  “I don’t know,” I confessed.

“Is he hurt?” Reeve asked, his voice slightly panicked.

“No. Nothing like that,” I reassured him quickly. “He’s just...” I trailed off, unsure how to explain.

“Jesus, Quinn, what the hell is wrong?”

“He’s moody,” I finally said. “He turned up in a mood. He’s aggressive and looking to pick a fight. We argued about milk for fuck’s sake... did I do something wrong?”

I sat down in a chair, keeping my eyes on the door of Logan’s office. I knew Harrison had gone for a shower, so I was confident I wouldn’t get caught, but given the mood he was in, I didn’t want to risk him catching me talking about him.

  “Ahh,” Reeve replied knowingly.

“Ahh what?” I asked, exasperated by this whole situation.

  “He lost a case today.”

  “And?” I pressed.

  “And that’s why he’s in a mood.”

  I scoffed.

That’s it? This is just about a case?

“He takes it incredibly seriously, Q. It wasn’t a very pretty case. He feels like he let a woman down today.”

“Did he?” I felt bad for asking, but I needed to know.

  “Not at all,” Reeve replied.

Of course not. He always gives it one hundred percent.

“Then why is he taking it so hard?”

“It’s who he is. He feels responsible for getting her justice. He really cares about helping people.”

My insides warmed at Reeve’s description of his friend.

  “He’s a good man,” I thought aloud.

“He is. It guts me to see him so torn up. Be strong for him, Quinn. He’ll need you.”

My stomach dropped at the thought of how cut up he was about this.

“I’ll try,” I promised. “Thanks Reeve.”

  “Anytime, honey.”

  ***

I could still hear the shower running when I snuck back out of Logan’s office. I tiptoed into my bathroom and silently peeled my clothes off. I was playing with fire here, I didn’t know how he’d react to me invading his space, but I’d never been one to shy away from a challenge, I reasoned with myself, and I wasn’t about to start now.

I peeked into the tiled shower; he was standing under the stream of water, his back to me and his forehead resting against the wall.

I considered calling his name, but decided against it.

  For now... no words.

I slid in behind him and slipped my arms around his waist, pulling his toned back against my front. He didn’t even flinch, from his lack of surprise, he must have known I was coming. I rested my cheek against his shoulder blades.

His muscles were tense, wound tight like a rubb
er band ready to snap.

I held him, the hot water pelting us both for the longest time.

Eventually I felt his muscles start to relax under my body. He loosened my hold and turned around slowly. His face was a mask of hurt and disappointment.

My heart ached at the expression he wore.

  My Harrison...

I reached up and stroked his face gently, rubbing at the frown lines between his eyes.

He stood stock still, not touching me.

His eyes were dark and hard as they locked on mine and I searched them for a sign that he was okay... that we would be okay.

My thumb brushed over his bottom lip and I couldn’t handle the space between us a moment longer.

I rose up on my tip toes and placed a gentle kiss on the corner of his mouth; testing the waters for how he’d react.

  He didn’t respond.

I kissed him again, firmer this time, and with more urgency.

His mouth opened slightly in acceptance.

My hands found the hair at the nape of his neck at the same time that his found my waist, gently pulling me closer.

He kissed me back now, and I could feel his body starting to respond to me.

He dipped his head and placed chaste kisses along my jawline.

  “Harrison,” I whispered softly.

I’d been expecting him to respond to me with fire, not tenderness. If anything, I thought he’d want to fuck me, hard. But his soft lips and gentle touch were telling a different story.

“Quinn,” he murmured into my neck.

“Take me to bed?” I whispered.

His strong arms lifted me, holding me tight against his body as our mouths met again.

He carried me out of the shower, not even pausing to shut the water off, and into my bedroom.

He sat down on the bed and lowered his back to the mattress, leaving me straddling him.

He looked so vulnerable in that moment and it terrified me.

Where is my strong, dominant man?

Reeve’s earlier words flooded my mind.

“Be strong for him, Quinn. He’ll need you.”

Harrison needed me... he needed me to be strong for him.

I dipped my head down to his and took control.

  32. Harrison

I couldn’t help but glance back at her as I headed for the door. Just the sight of her, sound asleep, made my chest burn.
