Lockdown Love Page 22

by Brisa Starr

  It’s time to go.

I send a text to Sadie to let her know we’re ready to come out, and she goes outside to make sure our guests are seated and that Landon is ready, with Rick, Sadie’s husband. He’s Landon’s best man. They give Sadie the thumbs up. Rick is also the Grill Master for our wedding reception tonight, as Landon finally conceded to not be on grill duty on our wedding day... though I expect I’ll find him over there giving pointers to Rick. Landon wants me to have a “perfectly grilled steak” for our wedding dinner. Ahem.

Dessert was my department. And while I ordered a ridiculously big and expensive strawberry-flavored cake — which I plan to plow into Landon’s face — I also made three batches of scones with extra whipped cream, too.

I look down at my finger, at my real engagement ring. True to his word, Landon bought me “a rock.” A four-carat rock. The ring he bought me last year will be my wedding band. It’s currently in the care of Sadie’s son, Patrick, our ring bearer.

The only thing missing from this perfect day is Granny, but I know that she’s not actually missing. She’s here with me in my heart, and I feel her spirited energy everywhere, and hear her singing to me in the wind chimes. I pick up the hand mirror that Landon had made for me, and I use it to check the back of my hair. “Absolutely perfect.”

The time has arrived, and I’m now moments away from marrying the man who unexpectedly stole my heart and swept me off my feet. I take one last look in the mirror, and smile at myself and up at my Granny.

Wearing a simple dress, ivory-colored with satin and lace, I straighten the spaghetti straps, which will keep me cool under the warm Arizona sun. I turn around and look back one last time to see the back of the dress, and I smile at the train flowing just past my heels, lending it the perfect amount of elegance. I have so much joy bubbling in my chest that I let out a giggle, feeling happy, beautiful, and sexy all at the same time.

Sadie texts me that all is good outside.

“OK,” I say to Paige and my mom.

Paige steps outside to join the rest of the family and the few friends we invited to join us for our intimate ceremony. We even invited Beverly. My mom hooks her arm through mine and looks at me, her eyes full of pride. She’s going to be the one to give me away.

We walk out the back door, and I see Landon standing across the back yard by the orange tree, in the same spot where he proposed to me. He looks handsome and oh-so sexy in his tux.

When he sees me, his eyes rove over me from head to toe, and his huge smile takes my breath away. I take a deep breath, and I smell the orange blossoms all around. The breeze picks up, just a little, and the wind chimes gently play for me, as I step toward the man I love, and my new life.

  The end.

  I have a favor to ask…

If you enjoyed this book, it would mean the world to me if you could leave a quick review on Amazon.com. Reviews are incredibly important for me as an independent author, and I’d be extremely grateful if you could write one!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  Acknowledgments

To my mom, my biggest fan, who inspires characters and dialog simply by being in the same room. Thank you for cooking all the meals during lockdown so I could write this novel. And thank you for proofreading the entire manuscript, even though I had reservations about you reading the steamy parts.

To my husband, your enthusiasm for every passion I take on makes my heart sing. I'm such a lucky woman to have my happily ever after. I love you.

To my daughter, who inspires me with her smiles and endless, cheerful spirit. Thank you for rubbing my shoulders every day with your strong, little hands that get into every nook and cranny.

And to Trixie, my BFF, who supports all my dreams and recommended the songs that fueled the sex scenes!
