  “Relax. We’re a team. Never forget that. Everything I did was for you,” Fiona said, intercepting her thoughts and preempting her actions. “I guess it’s goodbye then, my child.”

  Abbie glanced around the room, and Fiona disappeared in the blink of an eye. She let the Glock slide from her hand and drop onto the floor with a thud; there would be no more killing. The beast was gone, forever. Her mind was lucid in a way that she had never experienced in adulthood.

  She unbolted the creaking iron door but hesitated, sensing there was one more thing to do. For the first time, she noticed the blonde matted locks drooping over the front of her shoulders.

  I’m Abigail Blake.

  She ripped the wig from her head, throwing it onto the bloody floor in disgust. As she stepped into the dim hallway, she realized that she was alone for the first time since her childhood, reborn. Her reality was crystal clear; this was her chance for a fresh start. Jonah, Mama is coming.
