  CHAPTER 1

  "Lindsey."

"Yes Dad?" "I'm going to leave you in charge for a few months to see how you handle things. I still expect you to attend all your training sessions and report to Falcon if there are any problems. Your mother and I will be calling every day to check up on you. I'll make the announcement later tonight."

"Yes Daddy. Thank you for trusting me." I ran over and kissed him on the check and he gave me one of his crooked smiles. I was a Daddy's girl and the soon to be alpha of the largest pack in the word, the Silver Claw New Dawn pack. We had thousands of members and my parents were great rulers. I had been training all my life for the position. I had a younger brother but since I was the first born I carried the alpha gene. Most people would think my dad would be upset because I was female, but it was quite the opposite. He was proud that there wasn't a male alpha out there who would have a stronger pack than his baby girl. All the male alphas knew who I was which meant I had countless mating offers. I would respectfully decline them. However, there were a few who didn't take the news well, so on more than one occasion I had to put a crazy possessive male in his place. Each time my dad would burst with pride that I could kick any male’s ass that tried to take over my pack or control me. He knew that I wanted an equal, not a superior and respected my wishes. I left his office and went to find my best friend. Tomorrow was the first day of senior year and everyone was stoked.

"Hey Lindsey excited about tomorrow?" Kasey asked spotting me in the hallway. She was my best female friend and the beta's daughter. We had been through it all together. From first kisses, crushes, and boyfriends; to lovers, breakups, and heartbreaks. You name it, she was there for it.

"Of course. I can't wait!" I told her excitedly.

"But guess what's even more exciting?" "What?" she asked curiously.

"I'm the standing alpha for the next couple of months," I told her grinning like the Cheshire cat.

"No way, seriously? He's going to leave you in charge?" she said surprised.

"Yep." "That's amazing! I guess I shouldn't be surprised. You've worked so hard and you're going to make an awesome alpha. I mean seriously, no male would stand a chance against you."

"Let's just hope my mate realizes that or else I'll be showing him whose boss." "You already know you're going to be mated to an alpha or monarch or something. Hell maybe even a fallen angel sent here to make you the Moon Goddess with your luck," she said jokingly but I could detect the slight hint of sadness in her tone.

She never had good luck with men. Even though she never said anything I knew it bothered her that I got so many offers from alphas. She was already eighteen which was the common age werewolves found their mates. She wanted her mate so badly so that she could have that fairy-tale kind of love, but sadly he hadn't shown. To make matters worse almost everyone else had found theirs which left her feeling a little depressed. To try and forget she would go for any guy who gave her the slightest attention. I hated seeing her that way. Hopefully we would both find out mates soon. I would be turning eighteen in October so maybe that was when they both would decide to show.

"Yeah sure that's just what I need, some egotistical Neanderthal telling me how to run my pack or that we should merge. I mean seriously like I would give my pack to some guy and become his 'Luna'. I think I'll pass," I told her in all honesty. She burst out laughing.

"I would pay good money to see you acting like a 'proper' Luna being all submissive and dainty. It would be hilarious." I just rolled my eyes at her playfully and we made our way to the indoor movie theater.

"Hi Chasin," I said walking in greeting the omega. He was cleaning up some popcorn that some pack members must have left behind. He was really sweet and easy to talk to, sort of like my guy best friend. We had grown up together and on the rare occasion we were alone we sometimes opened up to each other. It kind of like a once or twice a month meeting just between us. It was an odd relationship for an alpha and omega but it felt good to just get things off our chest. For instance, I knew that he wished he was treated like everyone else, that he really wanted his mate. He knew I had trust issues because I was betrayed by a now enemy alpha who used me to try to take over the pack.

Everyone else thought it was just a bad break up but he, Kasey, and parents were the only ones that knew the truth, that it was so much more. Chasin was never judgmental which was why I felt I could tell him anything, we were friends, despite his ranking. I always got on to anyone who gave him a hard time. I knew they always wondered why I took up for him but they never questioned me.

"Hi ladies what will it be?" he asked smiling at us.

  "Popcorn, soda, and"

"Let me guess, every kind of chocolate candy," he said finishing my sentence.

"You got it handsome." I told him and he blushed slightly.

I always thought he was the cutest when he did that. He never took compliments or flirting well, especially not from me.

“I'll just be a second," he said going to get the stuff.

We made ourselves comfortable finding seats and talking while we waited on our snacks.

"He has a major crush on you. You know that right?" Kasey asked while the previews played.

"No he doesn't he just isn't used to people being nice or giving him compliments. It’s no big deal."

"Whatever you say," she said shrugging. Chasin came back with the snacks and before we knew it the theater was full. How people managed to find me I didn't know. It was like their mission in life was to follow and surround me at all times. Worst of all Chasin had to serve all of them. I couldn't help but think to myself how unfair it was, that he should be joining us. But I knew that even if I asked he wouldn't because people would make fun of him for trying to blend in. Sadly that was the life of an omega.

CHAPTER 2 After the movie was over everyone went to hang out in the game room until dinner time. The guys were shooting pool and girls were trying to get their attention. They screamed desperation pulling their tops down to show their cleavage and bending over. Some were even playing the damsel in distress pretending like they didn't know how to play when truthfully they were better than the guys. It was pathetic really.

Feeling the overwhelming desire to salvage what self-respect was left for the female race I decided to go play a game of pool. It was considered a guy's game so girls rarely played unless a guy was 'showing' them how.

"Mind if I join?" I asked when I saw Beau, the Gamma's son, racking up the balls. I never really played much. Just at night when I was bored and no one was around, but I wasn't too bad. I was sure I could win a game or two. How hard could it be?

"Not at all doll. In fact I would love to teach you. That is if this big stick isn't too much for you to handle," Trey said handing me a pool stick grinning. I caught the double meaning and rolled my eyes. He was the beta's son and Kasey's twin brother. Not to mention the most annoying guy on the planet. He flirted with practically every female and slept with any of them who were willing to let him. Everyone couldn't wait until he found his mate so that she could tame him. I just prayed it wouldn't be me.

  "I handled muc
h bigger sticks so I'm sure I can manage," I said shattering his ego. I heard the sound of laughter erupt and that only made him worse. "Care to test that theory? We can take this upstairs and settle this once and for all. When we're done I guarantee every member in this house would have heard you screaming my name," he said cockily.

"Yeah I'll be screaming your name alright. Out of frustration from not having an orgasm, now break."

Laughter erupted again and I could tell he was pissed since he hit the ball with more force than necessary, but he'd get over it. Normally we got along pretty well when he wasn't being a perverted jerk which was usually when he wasn't around his friends. I got the feeling it was just an act to show people he was strong. He was slightly bitter that his twin sister, who was slightly younger, was going to be my beta. People thought I chose her because she was the stronger of the two and he was dead set on proving them wrong. The truth was she was just more mature. I needed someone who would take the position seriously and not abuse it. My little brother Jacob would be a better choice than Trey at this point, and that was saying something since he was only twelve. We started to play the game and he was good. He got back his playful demeanor as he sank shot after shot. I missed a few easy ones because I was better at the trick shots but I wasn't out of the game yet.

"Looks like you’re going to lose this round doll," he said grinning as he made another shot. He had one ball left before the eight ball and I had three. It was my turn and fortunately they all looked like shots I could make. I sank two in a row making us even. He prepared for his next shot and all of a sudden Chasin walked by with a clean load of laundry. He was shoved by one of the pack sluts and bumped into Trey making him miss the shot. Her name was Paige. Her and her group of Barbie friends were always causing problems.

"What the hell!" Trey yelled furiously.

  "I'm sorry," Chasin said nervously.

The sluts burst out laughing and that only pissed me off.

"You don't have to apologize Chasin and Trey calm down. That bitch over there shoved him and he stumbled into you." I threw down the stick and stormed over to where they were sitting ready to bitch slap all three of them. The way they acted was ridiculous. The room was silent when I reached them. People were staring but I didn't care, I was used to the attention.

"Apologize to him, now," I said to Paige trying to keep my cool. "What? I'm not apologizing to an omega," she said outraged. "We do not mistreat people in this pack. How many times do I have to tell you and your clones that? Either you apologize to him right now or deal with me. Your choice."

  "Sorry omega," she said sarcastically.

"He has a name and I don't think everyone heard you."

"Sorry Chasin," she said louder rolling her eyes.

"Now leave," I said using a bit of my alpha tone.

She and her crew got up and stormed off. I heard her mumble something along the lines of how stupid it was that I was sticking up for a worthless omega.

"What was that Paige?" I said poking my head out the doorway knowing she could still hear me.

  "Nothing alpha."

"That's what I thought." I went and sat on the couch not feeling like playing anymore. Chasin walked over to where I was sitting, laundry still in hand. Everyone was looking at us and I knew that made him nervous. I felt the need to comfort him but held myself back.

"Thanks alpha," he said before bowing and taking off. A few hours later everyone had eaten dinner and were preparing for the announcement. I was up in my master bedroom taking my time getting ready. I wanted to look presentable since I would be standing in front of everyone. I took a shower, wrapped a towel around myself, and went in the closet to pick out an outfit. I decided to wear some slacks and a ruffled top and wedges. I didn't want to wear a dress since the whole point was to show that I strong enough to be in charge. Men tended to take you more seriously when they could focus on something other than your body.

I didn't bother with make up since I hated the stuff and put my hair up in a simple bun leaving out a few loose strands. I took one final look in the mirror and was satisfied. I walked down stairs and out the back door. I noticed everything was already set up and people were starting to arrive. Even though I had taken my time I was still early since I didn't spend hours on my appearance. I went and took my seat next to my brother and parents.

"Hey peanut head," I said ruffling my brother's hair. He smacked my hand away smiling.

"I told you not to call me that."

"You're my kid brother it's my job to do things you don't want me to do."

"Yeah whatever. So you ready to be the alpha?" he asked.

"As ready as I'll ever be."

"Cool. You think I could run the pack for a day or two while mom and dad are gone?" he asked excitedly.

"No,” all three of us said in unison.

"You're going to be staying at your aunt's young man. You call Lindsey if you need her but you are to stay out of trouble," my mom scolded.

"You guys never let me have any fun," he pouted and we just laughed.

"Alright looks like everybody's here so let’s get this over with," my dad said getting to his feet and stepping on the platform.

Everyone went silent as he looked over the crowd. "Thank you all for coming. I'll just get to the point. There are a series of meetings being held in Britain to address some issues that they have been having with rogues fleeing to the states from their country. They fear that these rogues seek to build alliances here and then go back to take over their territories. They have requested the help of the top alphas, which as you know includes myself, to devise a plan to ensure they are not successful and prevent any future problems.

Your Luna and I have decided to extend our stay meaning we will back in a few months’ time. After the meetings are over we plan to stay and see what the better side of the country has to offer. Our plane leaves in the morning and we have decided to leave our daughter Lindsey in charge while we are away. It will give her an opportunity to prove to us that she can handle the position of alpha when I step down. She has had years of training and we feel she is more than capable. Falcon of course will assist her and we will be constantly checking to make sure everything is running smoothly. That is all. Lindsey would you like to say a few words before we disband?"

I took a deep breath and went up to join him. He stood aside to let me have the floor.

"Hi everyone. I just want to let you all know that I take this position very seriously and for these few months I will do everything I can to protect this pack and ensure its safety. Words cannot express how much it means to me that I have been given this opportunity so you can rest assured that I will do nothing to jeopardize the trust and faith that has been given to me. We are family and will stand united as always no matter the situation. All I ask for is your cooperation and support and that you go about your daily lives as usual. You can come to me with any issues and I will address those best I can. If there are no questions thank you and good night."

People applauded and nodded in approval. Some even shook my hand as they left. Tomorrow morning I would officially be the alpha of my pack. I had dreamed of the moment for as long as I could remember and it was finally going to be here. I couldn't wait to do the job I was destined for.

CHAPTER 3 I woke up feeling excited. Today was the first day of school and my first day as standing alpha. Could life get any better? I was up super early. I even made everyone breakfast which I hardly ever do. I’m just not the in the kitchen type although I can cook. I made, bacon, sausage, eggs, toast, grits, waffles, pancakes, biscuits, coffee and pretty much anything else you could think of.

"Well someone is in a good mood. It smells good in here," my mom said coming in smiling.

"Yeah I'm just so excited. I could barely sleep," I told her happily.

"Well I hope it isn't because were leaving and you're glad to be rid of us," she said giving me a playful glare.

"Of course not. I didn't mean it that way. You know I'm go
ing to miss you guys."

"I know honey I'm just kidding. We're going to miss you too," she said giving me a hug and kiss. "You be a good girl and run this pack the way you were taught. I have complete faith in you baby girl. We're dropping your brother off and we'll call you as soon as we land," my dad said placing a kiss on my forehead. I nodded to show I understood and they fixed some plates to go before leaving.

Not long after they left the others came down. Everyone grabbed what they wanted and Chasin and the other omegas started doing the dishes. I didn't think it was fair since it was a lot do and they had school like the rest of us so I persuaded a few of the other she-wolves to help. Fortunately I didn't have to twist any arms and we all made it on time.

I parked my cherry red charger in my reserved spot and went in to get my schedule. Kasey and I ended up with mostly the same schedule except third when I took A.P. Literature and she took chorus. There was homeroom and then first period Trigonometry which I neither liked nor disliked. I wasn't a fan of math but I liked the teacher and it was easy. Second period was Biology followed by A.P. Literature then lunch.

When the bell rang I headed to the cafeteria with Kasey and found London and Marcella, our other best friends, and just talked about random things. Halfway through Chasin walked in, got his lunch and left. He hadn't eaten in the cafeteria since ninth grade and I knew why.

The first day of high school someone tried to cut in front of him. He stood up for himself and unfortunately the guy was a jerk and punched him. Chasin hit him back and that only made it worse. By the time I got there he was rushed to the pack doctor. Since then he always walked in late after everyone else got their lunch, grabbed his and left.

The bell rang and I went to my last class of the day which was art. I didn't have a full day since it was my last year and I only needed a few more classes. I was only taking art because I needed another elective. I walked in and took a seat in the front. Mr. Chancellor walked in and started talking about the importance of free expression and how art is used as an outlet. Right in the middle of his speech Chasin walked in.
