Watch Her Vanish: An absolutely gripping mystery thriller (Rockwell and Decker Book 1) Page 36

by Ellery A Kane

Will realized then, looking at his brother’s eyes which were so much like their dad’s, like his own, it had been too long. He was glad—relieved—to see him. It made him feel less alone. And on February 3rd that was no small feat. He wrapped his brother in a sweaty embrace Petey quickly wriggled out of, both of them laughing.

“So, why are you here? Don’t tell me you need money. I’m not paying that Bertolucci a single penny.”

Petey sighed and slumped onto the tailgate. “I do need money. But it ain’t for me. Oaktown’s been saying our brother’s got to pay to stay, and his canteen account’s run dry. Ben’s in trouble.”

Thank you for reading Watch Her Vanish! With so many amazing books to choose from, I truly appreciate you taking the time to read the first installment in the Rockwell and Decker series. The town of Fog Harbor and Crescent Bay State Prison are fictional places but are loosely based on my travels as a forensic psychologist in the state of California. Olivia and Will have many more exciting adventures ahead, and I hope you’ll continue on this journey with them.

One of my favorite parts about being an author is connecting with readers like you. You can get in touch with me through any of the social media outlets below, including my website and Goodreads page. Also, if you wouldn’t mind leaving a review or recommending the Rockwell and Decker series to your favorite readers, I would really appreciate it! Reviews and word-of-mouth recommendations are essential, because they help readers like you discover my books.

Thank you again for your support! I look forward to hearing from you, and I hope to see you around Fog Harbor again soon!

  Acknowledgments

First, I owe an immense debt of gratitude to you, my avid readers. Knowing my writing has affected you, inspired you, and even scared you just a little, makes every word worth it! I hope you love Olivia, Will, JB, Emily, and the rest of the Fog Harbor crew as much as I do and will stay tuned for more of their adventures.

Thank you to my family, friends, and work colleagues who have always been there to support me and to encourage me to keep dreaming big! All the best parts of my characters are based on them. Though my mom is no longer with me, she taught me her love for words, and I know she’s cheering me on even though I can’t see her. Thanks, too, to my dad, who’s never been a reader but thinks I’m brilliant anyway.

To my special someone, Gar, who deserves so much more than an acknowledgment or a dedication—though he has both—for the countless hours of plot discussion; for the kick in the butt to keep writing; for the occasional bad review pep talk; and above all else, for guarding my heart like a dragon and believing in my dreams as fiercely as if they were his own.

And finally, a huge thank you to Jessie Botterill for taking a chance on me! Her keen eye and sharp editorial lens have helped shape this book into something fantastic. Like Rockwell and Decker, I think we make a great team, and I feel so lucky to be working with her and the entire Bookouture family!

I have always drawn inspiration for my writing from my day job as a forensic psychologist. We all have a space inside us that we keep hidden from the world, a space we protect at all costs. So many people have allowed me a glimpse inside theirs—dark deeds, memories best unrecalled, pain that cracks from the inside out—without expectation of anything in return. I couldn’t have written a single word without them.
