The Last Utopia Page 23

  Postscript

  Hi, author here.

The Last Utopia is the first novel I ever published; the first of many, I hope. I’m sure one day I will look back on it and consider it… unrefined, to pick a diplomatic term. Still, for now I’m proud of the work I’ve delivered, and since you’re still here, you probably enjoyed it too, to some degree. So thank you for sticking around this long, and giving life to my story.

If you still feel invested in the story, you might be surprised or disappointed by the ending. There might be a number of questions in your head: Why didn't I show the destruction of Astralis, or Sophie's revolution? What happened to Nate or the Mystic? What's up with the weird painter dude?

However, to me this was always a story about Brayden as a character, and about the choice he had to make in the end, between an uncertain, but hopeful future and a convenient, but dreary present. With the final chapter, his story is over, as far as I'm concerned.

Now if you really liked the novel (thank you in advance), you might ask yourself if I'm planning on a sequel. I still have many loose ideas in my head, about both the characters and the world, but so far it's not a coherent story. If there's enough interest in this novel and if I can organize my thoughts into a second work I consider worth publication, we might meet again in book two.

  Until then, I'm signing off.

  Cheers,

  Michael M. Finch
