She placed her soft hand in mine. “Kimberly Saint.”

  “Saint, nice touch.”

She brought her glass to her lips. “Yeah, right?”

“The fake name you gave yourself is Saint. Do you think you are better than others?”

She grimaced. “No. Kimberly Saint has a nice ring to it. You don’t agree?”

I smiled at her from behind my sunglasses while sipping my drink. “Sure.” I chuckled.

Holding conversations with beautiful women wasn’t what I planned to do on vacation. I swore off women. Even though my ex-girlfriend Nicki said she hoped I met someone else. I could stand to wait until I was forty. Meeting another crazy like Hailey was something else I’d rather avoid.

“Mario. Mario.” Kimberly tapped the bar, jarring me from my thoughts.

  “Yes?”

“Would you like to go for a swim?”

I shook my head. “Nah, you go ahead.”

  She sighed. “Mario.”

I met her gaze. The woman was a fucking knock out. Her eyes were the color of gold. No Adam. Don’t engage her.

  “Yes.”

“We are here both escaping our real lives I’d imagine. How about we have fun together? You’ll never see me after we leave Antigua.”

I ran my fingers through my dark curly mane. “I don’t know.”

  “Suit yourself.”

She stepped down from the bar stool and stood before me.

Her sexy eyes roved my body. She placed her hands on my face and crashed her lips into mine. I clutched my fists against the bar trying not to caress her waist. I needed to break our kiss, but I didn’t. Finally, she came up for air.

People walked by not paying us any attention. What did I expect this was a singles island? This was where people came to hook up. And I was here for the opposite. Drown my sorrows at the bar then pass out drunk every night.

“You’re a great kisser,” she stated in the fake British accent.

  “See you around, handsome.”

I watched her stroll away in her black thong bikini. Shit, I needed a cold shower. Fuck, I had to stay away from her. She was the kind of trouble I needed to avoid. How long would I be able to resist her?

  LUCA ESPOSITO

The day I stitched up my brother, mom mentioned a woman from my past. One I’d tried to forget for three fucking years. She walked out of my life without as much as a goodbye. I questioned her father Dr. John Mavis.

He said, “I don’t know where she ran off to, but it was for the best.”

I gripped his neck, slamming him against the wall.

“You think you can keep her away from me?” A loud, sinister chuckle rolled out of my throat, then my smile disappeared.

“You can’t.” I dropped him to the floor like a bag of bricks and stepped over his body.

I didn’t look for her right away. What could I say I was bitter as shit? I fucked every woman in my path, trying to forget her. Didn’t work. Commitment wasn’t on the table. Hell, names weren’t even on the table.

After fucking at least thirty chicks, I felt hollow, distant, like a fucking shell. Yeah, I shoved the memory of Lexis away in a tiny box in my memory. All the good times we shared. Watching the food channel together almost every Sunday morning since we were kids. Tasting her experimental dishes. I was her personal guinea pig. Frequenting local farmers markets. Yeah, all those perfect memories that make your heart leap out of your chest.

I gotta say sitting in the bustling restaurant, sipping a cup of coffee, staring at the head chef prepare dish after fabulous fucking dish, my heart felt like it exploded all over the restaurant floor.

In that instant, I realized I still loved her. Hated her, but still loved her. Her hair was pulled up under a white chef hat. She laughed at another cook’s joke. Her fucking laughs belonged to me. Her long black eyelashes slapped her chocolate face. She was a goddess. She turned and peeked out into the dining room. I tugged my cap lower, hiding my eyes, bringing the spoon to my lips. The tantalizing spicy soup danced on my tongue. Shit. Her food was five-star quality.

I’d only been in Chicago, Illinois for a few days. She traveled far to get a way from me. She couldn’t escape me.

Her laughter filled the air again and rocked my heart at the same time. Her smile was still bright as the sun.

I think she lives with her boyfriend. If she does, he’s dead. She was never supposed to be with another man. She told me her heart belonged to me. So technically I had grounds to kill him. Well, in my mind anyway.

After seeing her, I knew I couldn’t leave. My brother had a shit storm, happening at home and here I was, chasing after a ghost from my past. Maybe it was time to step out of the shadows and remind her how good we were together. Or I could drag her back to New Jersey kicking and screaming. Either way, I wasn’t leaving without my woman.

  ETHAN

“EXCUSE ME, SIR, CAN I place an order?”

Abe glanced over his shoulder at the chocolate woman who slipped into a seat at my left.

  “Sure thing. One moment.”

The woman's dark eyes were fixated on the TV. I was trying not to stare, but it was next to impossible. Her black coily hair fell below her shoulders. She stood momentarily, removing her pink three-quarter-length pea coat. I should probably say something instead of staring.

“Hi, what are you drinking tonight?”

Blankly, she glared at me. “Hello, I plan to drink a Cosmo. But I can order my own drink. Thanks anyway.” She offered a weak smile.

  “You’re welcome.”

The cleavage of her purple blouse was begging my eyes for attention. Once her eyes fell back on the TV screen, I peeked at her sexy cleavage, then I lowered my eyes, glaring at her black pencil skirt.

“Are you done?” she asked, not tearing her eyes away from the TV.

My heart skipped a beat. I gawked at my reflection in the mirror, I turned a light shade of red.

“I apologize. I didn’t mean to stare. I’m sure you’re aware of how beautiful you are. Men probably stare often.”

The ends of her lips turned up a bit then dropped. Her dark eyes met my blue eyes. “It’s rude to stare.”

“It is.” I extended my hand toward her. “Ethan Daniels.”

Her soft hand palmed mine. “Malaysia Newton.”

I flashed a wide smile, showing all my pearly whites.

“Nice to meet you, Malaysia. Pretty name.”

  “Thank you.”

I glanced to my right. “Tim and Bill, I’d like to introduce you to Malaysia.”

Bill and Tim waved. “Hello, Malaysia.”

“Hello, nice meeting you both,” she replied.

Abe approached the counter. “What would you like to order, miss?”

“Abe, she will have a Cosmo. Whatever else she’s ordering add to my tab.”

Abe winked at me and smiled. He turned his attention back to Malaysia. “All right. Miss, would you like to see a menu?”

  “Yes.”

“I’ll grab your drink in the meantime.”

  She smiled.

  “Ethan, is it?”

I tried to hold back the laughter. She knew my name. “Yes.”

“That wasn’t necessary. But thank you.”

I placed my hand on my broad chest. “It’s my pleasure.”

I didn’t want to crowd her. I turned my attention to Tim. “Any special plans this weekend?”

Tim sipped his beer. “If sleep counts, yes.”

  We both laughed.

  “Are you working this weekend?”

“Yeah, tomorrow at ten in the morning. Off Sunday. Not sure the last time I had a weekend off.” I rubbed my brow, trying to remember.

“If you can’t remember, Ethan, it’s be
en too long.”

  “Agreed.”

Bill rose to his feet, tossing a few bills on the bar countertop. “Gentleman, have a good night. Malaysia, enjoy your evening.”

  “You, too.”

Bill waved. “Ethan, I will see you at work tomorrow.”

“Be safe, Bill. See you tomorrow.”

Abe returned, placing a steaming hot plate before Malaysia. She’d ordered grill chicken, broccoli, and a baked potato.

“Ethan, here is your meal. You both enjoy.”

“Thank you,” Malaysia and I responded, respectively.

She rocked the knife back and forth, separating the chicken into squares. Malaysia slipped the meat past her purple-colored lips. My tongue slid forward in an effort to lick my lips. I needed to stop watching her in a lustful manner. I was sure it was creepy. It was obvious I was attracted to her. Very seldom did I enjoy the smell of roses. I couldn’t recollect the last time I’d had sex. Apparently, it wasn’t that memorable if I couldn’t remember.

“Um, just as good as it was for lunch the other day.” She smiled. Her beautiful oval eyes made contact with mine.

I cleared my throat to find my voice. “Do you come here often?”

“No, early this week a few coworkers wanted to try someplace new. The food is pretty good.”

“Are you a fixture on the wall?” She gestured.

“No, but police officers, firefighters, and doctors frequent the bar.”

I placed a sliver of steak into my mouth.

“Do you fall into that category?” she asked.

  I grinned. “Yes.”

“Excuse me, Dr. Daniels.” Tim’s heavy hand patted my shoulder.

  “Tim, leaving so soon?”

He shrugged on his jacket. “I have a date with my bed.”

I laughed. “Good seeing you. See you next time.”

“Malaysia, have a good night. Don’t let Ethan, get you into trouble.”

  “I won’t.”

I glared at Tim. “What the fuck!” I mouthed.

Tim chuckled, turned on his heels, then walked away.

I smirked. “Malaysia, don’t listen to Tim. I’m not trouble.”

I glanced toward the other end of the bar. I didn’t wait for Malaysia to respond. I needed to change the subject. Abe was taking another order. He strolled back to the computer. “Abe, when you get a moment.”

“Sure, Ethan, I’ll be right over.

Malaysia and I ate in silence. Laughter and loud chatter surrounded around us.

“Ethan, what can I get for you?”

“Abe, please bring Malaysia and I another drink.”

“Two Cosmos coming right up.” He snickered.

  Malaysia and I chuckled.

“You said you aren’t trouble but you want to keep my drinks flowing?”

I smiled. “Relaxed, yes. Drunk, no.”

  Her eyebrows rose. “Relaxed?”

I ran my hand over my stubbled face. “Malaysia, we are just talking. Unless you had something else in mind.”

  We held each other’s gaze.

“Is this how you pick up women?”

“Sometimes, but I rarely take an interest in their day. How was your day?”

She sipped the new drink Abe placed in front of her.

“My day was long. How about yours, Dr. Daniels?”

I smirked over the rim of my new glass of beer. “It wasn’t the best day. I lost a patient.”

Her upward turned lips fell. “Sorry to hear that.”

“I’m supposed to be one of the best doctors in my field.”

“Let’s see what patients are saying about you on Health Grades.”

She whipped out her phone running an internet search. “Hm, it says here you are polite and you have the best bedside manner.”

  We laughed.

“Oh, look at you in the stark white doctor coat. Handsome. You have that Adonis look about you. You are tall. What is your height?”

“I’m six-two.” How tall are you?”

  “I’m five-five.” Can I continue?”

  I nodded. “By all means.”

“You have the perfect curly blond hair, angular jawline, dreamy blue eyes, long eyelashes, and semi-slender nose. Yeah, I’d say you are just about every woman’s dream man.” She smiled arrogantly.

“But not yours. What is it? You don’t date white men?”

“It’s not that. I don’t have time to date. I’m financially assisting my family right now. Maybe one day my knight in shining armor can sweep me off my feet. However, it isn’t now.”

“I understand. I was telling Tim I don’t remember the last time I had the weekend off. My schedule is demanding. I don’t have time for a woman.”

Malaysia pushed her plate forward, bringing her half glass of Cosmo closer. “What about the occasional hookup?” She stared into her glass.

“I’d make time for the occasional hook up with you.”
