Valentine's Miracle Page 11

by Celia Crown

“Victoria, my dear, come look at this.” Fyodor shows me his phone as Silas kneads my shoulder; the pressure is just right as I momentarily blank out over the picture.

I blink and focus; the image is a diamond ring with one ginormous diamond. I choke and squeak in surprise, Fyodor’s smug face tells me everything as he pulls out the red box in his hand.

He’s going to propose to Sebastian. It took a while but being able to marry the same sex has been made legal in the state that we live in.

A lot of people have been treated unfairly by those who are against it, and each day is a fight for them to be able to receive the basic rights that were not set in foundation hundreds of years ago.

Fyodor has been waiting for this moment. He had been in trouble because after he had announced that he was engaged to Sebastian three years ago, the media went into a frenzy. He wants to stay engaged and live together until the law has been passed. I’m glad they are so strong, and they have each other to rely on despite being the topic of talk in the media during those months before the craze died down to chase after more breaking news.

“Silas, let’s go home and give them privacy.” I tilt my head up, watching those green eyes staring back.

With a nod, he holds out a hand and helps me up from my chair. Another round of curses breaks through the door while Silas goes to get our son sleeping on the couch.

“See you tomorrow,” I whisper to Fyodor who presses a kiss to my cheek as he bids us goodbye.

Silas secures our son in his arms and keeps me firmly in his vision as we leave the room. I loved the protective side of him even before our son was born, and now it’s at another level. Not a second later, Sebastian’s happy and excited voice screeches out. “Yes! Fuck, it burns! I’ll marry you—”

  “Please be seated, люби́мый!”

I still don’t understand Russian, but the best I can come up with as the elevator dings open is a term of endearment by the tone of Fyodor.

“I can’t believe he proposed in the bathroom.” I slap my hand over my mouth, laughing through the air that slipped out.

I turn to Silas as he holds our son, and without a missed beat, he kisses me tenderly. I huff, wrinkling my nose at him while he pats our son’s back.

“I can’t tell if that’s romantic or not.”

  He comments, “It’s not.”

“He’s willing to sacrifice his dignity and propose to Sebastian, who is in the hold of laxatives.” I shudder from the thought.

“My proposal was romantic,” he remarks with a plain face and mirth gleaming in his green eyes.

“We were naked, in a hotel room that got knocked out by the convention concert and snowstorm. We were freezing, and you were my only source of warmth, so that proposal was up for debate.” This is unequivocally teasing, and I can’t help it. It’s in my nature to do that to Silas.

Silas cocks his eyebrow, challenging and predatory. A haunting grin spreads on his lips, and I instinctively rub my belly, praying our child will save me from this insatiable man.

“Do you want an encore?” he teases.

I’d be lying if that didn’t affect me as his tongue peeks out just to flick over his canine. “Uh, Silas, that’s not what I mean—”

“Don’t worry about him,” he says as Silas rocks our son in his arms. “Our parents have been dying to take him for the weekend again.”

A sinister swirl of green darkens. “I will make you regret those words.”
