Over the coming years, Simon and his sons would join with Paul and traverse the Roman Empire, teaching the word of God wherever anyone would listen. And whenever they encountered the poor, the brokenhearted, the blind, or the captive in spirit, the faithful and humble man of Cyrene—the man who had silently born the cross for his Savior—would share his food, offer his cloak, and preach good tidings, telling his own story and teaching them the way of truth.
Acknowledgments
First of all, thanks to all those who have helped me realize my dreams—from my mother, who listened to all my stories I wrote in crayon, to Warren Allen Smith, my high school English teacher, who made me write . . . and write . . . and write. Thanks to all the wonderful people at Ensign Peak: Lisa Mangum and Janna DeVore, who were assigned the unenviable task of editing my work; Richard Erickson and his team of designers, who were brilliant in their work on the cover; Rachael Ward, for her typesetting skills; and so many others I have not met but who had a hand in the many steps of bringing books to life. Special thanks to Chris Schoebinger, who took a chance on me.
Second, thanks to Loree, who has encouraged me to pursue this writing dream from our beginning. She saw more, and sees more, in me than I can see myself and has been my partner in working to make it come to pass. In addition, she has shown me what a true relationship with the Savior can be. While she has taught me a great deal about the gospel of Jesus Christ, the best thing she does is live it, richly, in every area of her life.
Finally, I would like to thank Him, as I do every day of my life, for breath, for direction, for forgiveness, and for hope.
