Remak gave her the most loving smile she’d ever seen, settled into her arms and fell asleep while she tried to cushion him from the bumps in the road. She looked up to see Albinan watching them from the front of the cart with an expression of envy, but then he turned his attention back to driving.

Talia held Remak all the way back to his army’s camp.

  Chapter Six

Talia pulled the uncooked bird out of the cooler and set about preparing supper. An anniversary supper—of sorts. It was just a year since Remak had returned with her, and six months since they married. She wanted to prepare something special for him.

She put the bird into the pan sitting on her table…her new table, made by her husband as one of his first presents to her after he’d regained his strength.

As he’d told her, he had a flair for woodworking. The new four-poster bed he’d made for their wedding night had been proof of that. And now he hoped to expand into making furniture for others—a new career for a man who’d never looked beyond soldiering. But Remak wasn’t the man he’d been when she’d first met him, or even the one who’d been in the dreams that had led her to find him.

Whatever he’d experienced while a prisoner, during those dark hours when he’d thought he would die, he never mentioned. But clearly he’d come to recognize the value in having beside you someone to love.

The Remak she’d met years ago would have walked away from her after spending one night together. This one never would.

She pulled out some vegetables and put them in the pan next to the bird. A similar meal to the one she’d prepared for him in her dream, not that he’d remember, but she always would.

Before she could light the oven, Remak entered the room. Talia startled—she would never get used to how small the room felt when he came in. “You’re home early,” she started to say, but he grabbed her and swung her about until she clung to him, laughing.

  “I have great news!”

“What news?” she asked when she caught her breath.

“I’ve sold two of those new chairs I designed and taken a commission for a table to match.”

“That’s wonderful, Remak!” She hugged him. “I’m so proud of you.”

He held her closer. “I know you are. That’s what makes it so wonderful.” Kissing her again, he set her down and noticed the bird in its pan. “You’re making something special for dinner.”

  “It’s a celebration…it’s been a year…”

“A year since you rescued me. I remember, Talia.” His exuberance became pensive. “A kind of birthday, in a way. I thought I would die and so was reborn.” He threw off his momentary solemnity. “And I know just the way to celebrate.”

After six months of marriage Talia recognized the look in his eyes. “I was going to make dinner…”

“Dinner can wait.” He lifted her and sat her on the table. “I have other cravings to satisfy.”

“But Remak…” Her half-intended protests fell on deaf ears and Talia gave up arguing as her husband’s mouth descended on hers and he did that thing he did so well with his tongue, engaging hers in a mock battle.

As he’d said, dinner could wait.

Once he had her attention Remak moved down her front, opening her blouse and kissing her breasts. He made that little suckling noise she loved so much when pulling her nipple between her lips. Meanwhile his hands were on her hips, kneading the globes of her ass through her skirt until she felt her pussy fill and soak through her underpants.

Something new she’d learned to wear, or risk spotting her skirts in an embarrassing way. But just a look from Remak sometimes made her wet.

Now he was kneeling on the floor, his head so close to her pussy she knew he could smell it. He seemed to take a deep breath and smiled. “Nice to know that even after all this time I still arouse you.”

“Remak, I think I’d have to be well past middle age before I stopped wanting you.”

He got that funny look on his face that he had sometimes—as if he knew something about the future he couldn’t share with her.

“Well past middle age. Yes, I imagine it will take that long. And I’ll love you all the time in between.”

“Oh my darling,” she began, but then he lifted her skirt and tugged down her remaining garment, exposing her crotch to his eager eyes. Then it was his eager lips that were exploring her sensitivity, his lips and teeth gently teasing her clit until she was ready to scream at how good it felt. Then his tongue slipped deep in her pussy and she did cry out.

“Yes, like that,” he lifted his head and murmured. “I love it when you give in that way.”

“And I love it when you touch me that way.”

“Then I should do it some more.” He bent his head and went back to work and soon Talia was crying out again. And again. Over and over Remak took her to the peak of completion until the last cry was wrung from her. Then he leaned back and smiled at her with male satisfaction.

She lay panting on the table. “Is that it, are you done?”

“Not even close.” He stood and picked her up in his arms. “We’ve got some serious celebrating to do tonight. I’m going to show you sensual heights well beyond your dreams.”

Beyond her dreams? Talia just smiled as her husband carried her to their bedroom and the large bed he’d made for the two of them to share. With the kind of dreams the goddess had given her, he’d have his work cut out for him.

Fortunately, he was just the man to do the job.
