The Viking's Consort Page 30

by Quinn Loftis

“You can’t be that easily distracted, my love,” I said. “You have to learn to focus even when women start talking about being shirtless and sweaty.”

Brant stood and walked over to us. He leaned down to press a kiss to my lips. “I’ll always be distracted when it comes to you being shirtless and sweaty.”

“Could we please move on to something else?” Allete asked.

“Right.” I nodded. “We have good news and bad news.”

“What’s the bad news?” Torben asked as he came over, using his tunic to wipe the sweat from his brow.

“There’s two of us,” I said.

Both men stared at me like I’d grown a second head.

Allete shook her head at me. “Way to be vague. What she means is instead of dealing with only one pregnant woman, you must deal with two. Dayna and I are both with child.”

They just stared at us as if we were speaking a foreign language. I wasn’t sure what I’d expected, but that wasn’t it.

After a minute, Torben grinned and threw an arm around Brant. “We’re going to be fathers!”

“Why are you hugging him?” Allete asked. “I’m the one carrying your child.”

Brant shoved Torben away and wrapped his arms around me, picking me up off the ground high enough my stomach was level with his face. He pressed several kisses there, smiling up at me. “You’re carrying my son.”

I frowned. “How do you know it’s a boy?”

“Because the gods wouldn’t be so cruel to give me another female to deal with.”

I raised my brow. “Deal with? Are you saying I’m something you have to deal with?”

“Not a good choice of words, brother,” Torben muttered.

“It’s a little late for that advice,” Brant growled. “I didn’t mean that in a negative way, beautiful. I love dealing with you.”

“Well, I’m glad to hear it. I’m also happy to tell you that Allete said we’re having triplets, so there’s a possibility that you could end up with three daughters.”

Brant nearly dropped me as he lowered me to the ground. His eyes were wide now. “Three?”

  I nodded.

He cursed low as he released me. “I need a drink.” He stumbled off toward the main dining hut.

“Are you really having triplets?” Torben asked.

Laughing, I shook my head. “No. And I’ll tell him eventually. But he deserved it after his ‘dealing with you’ comment.”

  Torben laughed.

“I don’t know what you’re laughing about,” I said. “Your wife is pregnant with twins.”

Torben’s face sobered, and he studied Allete. She nodded. A minute later, we watched as Torben ran after Brant, muttering he needed a drink as well.

  “That was fun.” I chuckled.

  “It really was.”

  “Now what?”

“Now, sister…” Allete sighed as she wrapped an arm around my waist. “We live happily ever after.”

“Which translates into tormenting our Vikings, right?”

  “Absolutely.”
