  Amena

Walking out of the movie theater, Trey threw his arm over my shoulder and pressed his lips against my forehead. I looked up at him with a smile pulling at the corner of my lips. He was so sweet, so attentive and kid free. Everything felt so perfect with him. I can’t believe I actually thought about writing him off just because I loved Wesley. The way I was feeling for Trey had me second guessing if how I felt for Wesley was even real.

“Thank you for taking me out. It’s been forever.”

Trey pecked my lips once more. “I find that hard to believe. You said you had two boyfriends before, right?”

“Yes, one we didn’t go out and the other it was always family functions. Neither one of them knew how to treat me now that I think about it.” It had me frowning my face from feeling like I was a best kept secret on both ends.

“It’ a good thing I’m the last man you will ever be with.”

“You think so?” I questioned him with a raised eyebrow.

“Of course,” he laughed licking his lips. “Speaking of which, I don’t want our night to end. I had something romantic in mind and it requires your full cooperation.”

  “Romantic?”

“Yes,” he responded. “Are you with it? I hope you are because I ain’t taking no for an answer. I waited so long for this.”

My stomach twisted thinking about the sex with him. Trey wasn’t Wesley, but he wasn’t nothing short of amazing. He was good enough to replace Wes.

  “I’m with it,” I replied.

“Great, you just made it so much easier.”

When we made it to his car in the parking lot, he pulled open the passenger door, but stopped me from getting inside.

“Before we leave, I need you to put this over your eyes.”

Trey pulled out a bandana and when I gave him a puzzled look he smiled and explained.

“It’s a surprise, so I need you to wear this.”

“Alright, it better be good,” I told him stepping to the side allowing him to place the bandana over my eyes. Once he secured it, he helped me into the passenger seat and buckled my seatbelt. I heard the door shut, and then the other door pen soon after before he started the car.

I listened to Music Soul Child play on the radio as we drove to his surprise. I was nervous as fuck especially since I never experienced anything romantic, but Trey did everything to make sure I was comfortable and assured me I was going to have the time of my life.

It felt like an hour passed before the car finally stopped and he shut it off.

“We’re here,” he announced. “Don’t take your blindfold off though. I will take it off once we’re in.”

“Okay,” I responded with a smile.

He got out of the car and came to open my door. Once I felt him on me, I got out of the car carefully and held onto him as he guided me to the surprise. It felt like grass beneath my sneaker as I followed him.

“We’re in,” he told me closing a door. “Don’t take off the blind fold. Here sit right here.”

Using my hands as I guide, I sat down on what I assumed was a chair. When I was seated, he took my hands and placed them behind my back and then secured each of my legs to the chair.

“What kind of kinky stuff you’re into?” I asked.

  He didn’t respond. “Trey.”

My heart felt like it dropped to the pit of my stomach sensing something was off.

I heard his feet against the floor, but he didn’t say anything. The bandana was untied from my eyes and I saw that we were in an empty house. My eyes stretched wide as he came into view with a gun in his hand pointed my way.

“Trey…” I stammered. “What the hell is going on?”

“Call your brother and let him know I want a million dollars in three hours.”

  “What?”

The look he had on his face didn’t resemble anything he felt earlier. My body shook as I stared at the barrel of the gun he had trained on me.

“Bitch! You heard me. Give me your brothers number.”

He pulled the hammer back on the gun and I felt my entire life flash before my eyes.

I rattled off the number quickly and he put the phone on speaker. In my head I was hoping Mar answered, but the phone went to voicemail. The look on Trey’s face grew more intense.

“This might not turn out too good for you. If I don’t get my money, I’ll just settle for your life instead.”

  Officer Cloak

“Put your fucking hands in the air!” I yelled sternly with my gun trained on her.

The woman Trevor told me was Sharita face tightened instantly as she slowly raised her hands with her phone in her hand. Moving her head from side to side, she looked at all the pedestrians that were peering at us with their phones recording every second. I was supposed to be doing this in an inconspicuous area, but I didn’t know how else Trevor wanted me to get this shit done.

“Nobody can save you,” I hissed stepping closer to her and snatching her phone out of her hand. After pushing it in my back pocket, I place my gun back in the holster, and then grabbed my cuffs. Taking one wrist, I spun her around to secure her arms behind her back.

“Why am I being arrested?” she sneered.

“Where’s the gun?” I whispered harshly in her ear.

I patted her sides and then snatched open the purse she had draped across her body.

“I don’t have no damn gun. You didn’t even read me my fucking rights!”

Squeezing the cuffs tighter around her wrist she winced, and I smirked from her pain.

“You have the right to shut ya ass the fuck up before I take you into an alley and put a bullet right through your fucking head. You think your little boyfriend will miss you then?”

I could feel the anger radiating from her body. Nudging her forward, she walked right to my car. I opened the door and got her in the back slamming it shut and got in the driver's seat.

Pulling out of the lot, I took my phone off the passenger seat and sent Trevor a text giving him a heads up that I had Sharita in custody. He responded, ‘ok’ and I sighed running my hands down my face. I swear this man had me doing all this insane shit. I just hoped everything in the end played out exactly how he expected it to because if not I’d be the one suffering the most.

Taking my eyes briefly off the road, I glanced at Sharita through my rearview mirror and she shot me an icy glare that sent a chill running through my veins. Swallowing my fear I curled my lip.

“You’re so tough right now, but let’s see you keep that same energy when I book your ass!” I spat.

Sharita didn’t respond. The expression in her eyes got more intense and had me gripping the st
eering wheel shaking me up a bit. I don’t know what was in the water these days, but these women were harder than many men I came across.

The entire drive to my station her phone was vibrating in my pocket. Taking it out, I noticed there were missed calls I recognized from the people I’ve been keeping tabs on. A few were from Kenton who I knew was a part of Amare’s organization. That just made this thing a little sweeter. If we couldn’t get to Amare from his sister or girlfriend we could get to him through her. I was sure he had to be fucking her since he was calling.

Once I got to the back alley way of my station, I put my car in park, got out and sent her phone smashing to the ground. It should’ve been one of the first things I’ve done, but it was over now. Snatching her door open, I pulled her out roughly from the back seat and damn near dragged her to the back door.

Unlocking it, I peeked my head inside to make sure the coast was clear and pulled her inside. The first empty room I found, I went inside and pushed her into the chair.

I stood in front of her with my hands across my chest and my eyebrow raised. She was one tough cookie, but one thing I do know is that with her record she ain’t want to go back to jail.

“Sharita Meyers, the girlfriend of the infamous Kenton Smith.”

“What does he gotta do with this? Matter fact, why the fuck am I here?!” she snapped.

I rushed up to her and balled her shirt up in my hands. “You can kill the I’ma ride or die bitch routine for me, sweetie. When I haul your pretty brown ass to jail you think he's going to be doing the same shit? You think he's going to be riding for you like you’re riding for him?”

She continued to glare at me unfazed by anything I was saying.

Releasing her, I grabbed the chair that was on the other side of the table and took a seat.

“Where’s the gun, Sharita? The one you pointed at Trevor. You’re a felon. Do you know how many years you can get if convicted?”

Sharita gazed fiercely at me, sizing me up before she broke out into a sick laugh. “Is this what it's about?”

“So you’re admitting you have a gun?”

“Not at all. I do know my ex Trevor snuck up on me yesterday and now I’m here.” She tilted her head to the side as she tongued her cheek. “I can walk out of this police station right now.”

  Shit!

“You try that shit if you want to. One phone call and I will have a judge signing a warrant to ransack your apartment to find that gun. You’ll be back in jail before you know it.”

She didn’t like the sound of that, because the smile she had on her face dropped.

“We can do this the easy way or the hard way. You’re a very pretty woman and I know jail isn’t no place for you. If you help me, I can help you.”

  Sharita didn’t respond.

“Tell me everything you know about that boyfriend of yours and I can make all of this go away. You won’t have to ever see me again.”

“I don’t know shit about him.”

  “Bullshit!”

A half smile surfaced on her lips. “What the hell do you think I know?”

“Trust me,” I replied. “You know something.”

“I know his dick is big,” she replied, making me jump out of my chair and grip her cheeks making her face pucker like a fish.

“You think this is a game, you little slut! I promise you; you will be in jail for the gun and a laundry list of other crimes when I’m done with you. Let’s see how loyal you are to your boyfriend after that.”

Stepping inside the salon, I silenced the second call I got from a blocked number. Corryn was losing her mind after a few clients informed her that Sharita was taken into police custody. Just as I declined the blocked call another came in from Chelsea this time. Times like this is where having someone like her and her husband in my pocket came in handy. I had her figuring out where Sharita was so my lawyer, Hardy could get her out. I had no fucking clue what she had going on, but he was a fucking beast and knew his shit. I paid good money to have him whenever I needed him.

Sliding the answer icon, I put the phone to my ear watching as Corryn rushed over to me with worry embedded in her eyes. She locked eyes with me before she stared at the phone in my hand as if she could hear who was on the other end.

  “Yeah, what Rampey say?”

“He’s working hard on it. He had his assistant call every District in the city and no one have paperwork on Sharita Meyers? Who is she anyway?”

“How the hell someone get arrested and there’s no paperwork?” I snapped.

“Look, Amare, I don’t know. It must be some underhanded shit that’s going on.”

“If that’s the case, tell your goddamn husband to stop playing phone tag and get his ass up in every district so I can know where to get her.”

  “Who’s the gi—"

  Click!

I ended the call and stuffed my phone in my pocket. My hands went to Corryn’s face, and I brought her in closer pressing my lips against her forehead causing a faint smile to line her lips. Shit, that was all I needed so I could feel better.

“I know you’re worried about Rita, but I got her. I don’t need you stressing. It’s not good for you or the baby.” I tilted my head down so I could peer into her eyes and actually kissed her lips this time.

“You’re right. I’m just so worried because you know… Sharita don’t want to go back to prison. You think Pitt and Trina said something to the police about her gun?” Her eyes bugged. “What if they took her because they think she killed them? Oh my God…”

“Calm down, Corryn. You’re making assumptions that may not even be true. I will get it squared away.”

“Was that someone that can help you? What did they say?”

I shook my head. “They have no leads just yet.”

Corryn groaned. The door to her salon chimed and we turned around and noticed it was Kenton bursting through the door with his phone in hand.

“I got a ping on her cell phone. It’s not reading any more, but I’m sure this the last place she’s been, and there’s a strong chance she’s still there.”

He approached us passing up his phone, I did a quick search on my cell phone and saw it was the 16th Police district in West Philadelphia, not too far from the Salon.

“16th district,” I announced handing him back his phone.

  “Bet, I’m going–”

I place my hand on Kenton’s shoulder to stop him. “Bro, we can’t just walk up in a police station demanding to see someone that ain’t even on papers.”

  “Huh?” he snapped.

I looked around and noticed no one was paying us any mind, but I still didn’t want to have this conversation out in the open. Nodding my head towards Corryn’s office, I walked that way and they followed behind me.

“I had the commissioner look into Sharita’s arrest and there isn’t any paperwork proving she was booked. Even though there may be a chance that she’s in there for some shady shit, we gotta play it smart. Walking up in their guns blazing not gonna change shit.”

Kenton’s nose flared as he released a deep breath. “So what you suppose we do?”

“I can get Hardy to go get her. I called him up already to let him know I needed him ASAP.”

  “How long will it be?”

Lifting my shoulders, to tell him I don’t know my phone buzzed in my hand again.

“This blocked number keeps calling me.”

Corryn’s eyes automatically snapped together and I chuckled seeing the unnecessary jealousy in her face. I answered to dead her concern placing the phone on speaker.

  “Who’s this.”

“Amare… I’ve been calling you…” my face twisted into a disgruntled expression hearing a males voice on the other end. “For a second I didn’t think you cared about your sister.”

  “What?!”

“Mar! Please! Just give him what he wants!”

Hearing Amena’s voice had my blood curling. My eyes darted be
tween Kenton and Corryn who looked like they were now on pins and needles.

“You hear her? I know you love her, and you have something that I want. I’m going to send you the address. I want one million dollars in two hours now. I’ve been too patient. I’m sending you the address and don’t try no funny shit. If you come with anyone else, she’s fucking dead.”

As soon as he hung up a text message came through with an address. When I focused on Corryn tears were in her eyes and she was visibly shaking.

“This can’t be happening,” she mumbled.

“Who the fuck could have Amena?” Kenton asked me.

“Call Wes and tell him I need him with me ASAP.”

“She… she was seeing this guy…” Corryn spoke up stammering. “She went on a date with him today.”

I must’ve given her a deadly look because she opened her mouth to say something, but closed it like a fish gasping for air

  “What’s his name?”

Shaking her head she responded. “I don’t think she ever told me his name. But she mentioned he was at the club one day and Kenton and Wesley beat him up.”

My jaw clenched. “Tell all your clients there's an emergency and you have to shut down for the day. Too much is going on and I need you with someone safe. Go back to my place with Kenton.”

“Bruh, my girl is sitting in someone’s District!”

“And someone holding my sister for ransom!” I snarled stepping into his space. We were now face to face staring at each other menacingly.

“Babe, this isn’t what we need right now. Y’all are friends and we all have people that we love that are in danger,” Corryn tried to reason with me, but I didn’t move. It was selfish as fuck for him to think that Sharita sitting with cuffs on her wrist was more crucial than my sister being dead.

When Corryn saw I wasn’t backing down she faced Kenton. “Sharita will be back with us as soon as the lawyer gets to the District. Let’s just go now. We don’t need anything else happening.”

Kenton was like my brother, but he knew right now wasn’t the time to go against anything I said. He took a step back.

“Hardy is going to handle Rita’s situation. I need you to make sure Corryn is good while I handle the shit with Amena.”
