“What about her?” Logan asked as he lifted the glass to his lips.
When the hot bartender chuckled, Logan couldn’t tear his eyes away from his Adam’s apple as it bobbed in his deliciously tanned throat.
“Oh, I see,” he told Logan as he lifted a white towel and placed it over his shoulder.
“I’m sure you don’t,” Logan mumbled, if you did, you’d more than likely be moving farther away.
“What was that?”
“Nothing. I guess I just changed my mind.”
“Jesus man, why would you do that? She’s fucking hot.”
Logan’s body responded to the word fucking coming from that smooth voice as though the bartender had just run his hand over his hard-on.
Usually, the employees at After Hours weren’t exactly chatty, and if they were, the conversations were always polite. This place was classy, not like the local pub, and the fact that this guy was standing here, blatantly checking out the clientele, made Logan do a double-take before responding.
“Agreed. She is hot.”
“Want another?” Bartender asked, gesturing toward the empty highball.
“Sure,” was Logan’s vague reply before he added, “You’re new here.”
When the guy nodded, his dark curls shifted with the motion of his head as he looked across the bar at Logan.
“You’re obviously not since you know that. I started yesterday.”
“Well, it’s nice to meet you. I guess you could say I’m a regular. I work next door.”
As a new drink was slid back in his direction, Logan picked it up without taking his eyes off the young man staring back at him. He was getting some kind of vibe from the guy, but he was pretty sure it wasn’t what he was hoping for. Probably just a new employee appreciating a decent customer. But every thought running through Logan’s head right now was so far from decent that it was actually illegal in some states.
That was when the bartender gave him another pearly grin as he angled his head down the bar. “Well, have to get back to my fans. Let me know if you want to buy her that drink. You look like you need to unwind, if you know what I mean. “
Before Logan could even get out, No, I fucking don’t. What do you mean?, the bartender had moved down the bar and was now smiling and flirting with a blonde woman who was leaning across the bar top, giving him an exclusive view down her ample tits. Logan couldn’t help himself from watching the newest After Hours employee as he drained his second drink.
The only thought running through his head now was, Fuck!
Just when he thought life was going to be easy and hand him a woman to bend over his desk, it threw him a nice fucking curve.
Batter up! I want to play with some balls.
Six women—you each know who you are.
You are the very best women I have ever met.
You are each equally smart, witty, outrageously inappropriate, and brutally honest, and you have all helped me to accomplish and fulfill a lifelong dream.
When I started Exquisite, it was a stand-alone book, a book I hadn’t even finished, and that was just over a year ago. Now, here I am, finished with the final installment in the series.
I asked each of you if you could help me through all three books for the sake of continuity. What I didn’t expect was to end up with six women who have become as important to me as my family.
How do I repay the people who have spent the last three months supporting and pushing me through not only writing and critiquing, but also upset, disappointment, and my biggest hurdle, illness?
The answer is simple. I can’t.
Words are not enough, and you all know how wordy I am.
I thank each of you from the bottom of my heart, and I cannot wait to start the process all over again.
A huge thank you, of course, to my fantastic editor and, more importantly, friend, Jovana Shirley. This process is long and difficult, and it’s often pulled off under timelines that require early and late hours, depending on how you look at it. I can’t thank you enough for all the hours you spend helping me.
You truly are a genius, and your attention to detail and immaculately polished work reflect only a portion of your immense talent. I feel fortunate that I get to work with you.
And to my husband, thank you for being exactly who you are. I love you.
Xx, Ella
