Once things calmed down, she phoned Ryan to share her good news.
“An apprentice? Congratulations, baby. You deserve it and so much more.”
She heard her daughter’s muffled voice in the background.
“Mom? Congratulations!”
Dani chuckled to hear the excitement in her voice. “Thank you, Emily.”
“I’m so proud of you, Mom.”
The line went silent, and she stifled the rush of emotion Emily’s praise brought on.
“Dani? We’ll have to celebrate your promotion.”
“I’ve had enough excitement for today. A quiet evening with people I love sounds perfect to me.”
For the rest of the afternoon she helped JD prepare samples of her pantsuit in four different fabrics. It all seemed a little surreal to imagine her design on some gorgeous model as she walked down a posh runway.
The day ended with a heartfelt, “I’ll see you in the morning.” Dani was excited to get home, and very happy she’d chosen to ride to work.
She crossed the busy street toward the parking lot and stopped short. Ryan sat on the edge of his seat, grinning from ear to ear.
“And just what are you up to?” She kissed him and linked her hands behind his neck.
“Am I not allowed to go for a ride with my beautiful girlfriend?”
Dani’s cheeks instantly warmed, and not from the sun. “Oh my, you have me blushing like a schoolgirl.”
Ryan pulled her close, pressing his body against hers. “I happen to think it’s very sexy.”
She placed a hand over the hardness behind his zipper. “I think if I don’t step away, we’ll be giving my office building quite a show.”
In a matter of seconds, she sat on her bike, looking over at the love of her life. “Let’s ride, baby.”
“You lead.” He lifted his kickstand. “I’ll follow you anywhere, ‘til the end of time.”
Happiness encompassed her as she smiled in response….
