I never saw the goal until we watched it back later that night in our living room.

I sat behind Roman, rubbing his shoulders.
“Mmm,” he groaned. “Don’t stop that. Ever.”
I winced. He had taken a lot of hard hits. One slammed him to the ice hard enough I thought he might have had a concussion.
“The Stanley Cup champion gets what the champion wants,” I purred.
His hand reached around, snaking up my calf. “I still don’t believe it.”
My palms slid to his chest, and I kissed his neck. I kept rubbing, moving my hands everywhere. “You won. The Dire Wolves came back in game seven.” If I said it out loud, maybe he’d let himself enjoy how incredible it was. “I’m married to the MVP. I think I heard that a few times tonight.”
He laughed. “I can’t believe that part, either.” He peeled my hands from his chest and turned to face me in bed. “What do you want to do tomorrow?” he asked.
“Tomorrow is your day,” I answered. “Don’t you have press and a parade?”
He shrugged. “I want to know what you want to do.”
I held up my phone. “I had about twenty texts from Lee during the game. Everyone at Puck Pub was freaking out.” I scrolled through the pictures so he could see the banners and the celebration party. “Look, they even made a video for you.” We watched our drunken fans scream and wave around in front of Lee’s phone. “What if we make an appearance after you’re done here?” I suggested.
He nodded, pulling me to him. “Back to Penny Hill?”
“It feels like the right thing to do.”
He dipped his head to kiss me. “I know what feels like the right thing to do.”
I waggled my eyebrows. “What’s that?”
He lowered me to the bed. I knew he didn’t care how badly hurt he was or what time it was. I saw the look in his eyes. The one I could never escape. The look that said I was his, and he was mine. His warm lips brushed over mine. I breathed gently.
“We’re going make a baby,” he growled.
I gasped. “You said off-season.”
“Game seven, baby. Done.”
I laughed, wrapping him in my arms. I knew we were ready for our next chapter. Maybe it would start tonight, or maybe it wouldn’t happen until the end of the summer. We had no way of knowing—but Roman and I weren’t the kind of people to ever stop trying for something we really wanted.

Wow! I can’t thank you enough for reading Cold As Puck. Roman has been in my head for so long, and to finally get him out in the world is an amazing feeling. To share what he and Sophie dealt with off and on for years was a cathartic journey for me too.
The Cold Love Series continues you with Luca from the Dire Wolves in Cold as Hell. You can pre-order now.
