by Garrett, Wade H.

Wyatt walked to the RV and started getting it ready to move. Kenneth grabbed a duffle bag and tossed it in the back of a black, 80s model Silverado with a camper shell, then opened the door. “I’ll be back in a few minutes. I need to run to the store.”

Seth tossed him a roll of money. “Get me two cartons of smokes and some Mountain Dew.”

As Kenneth drove off, Missy gave Seth a hug. “I’ll catch up with you in El Paso.”

He handed her a phone. “Use this when calling me. It’s untraceable.”

Barry watched her drive off in a Maroon, Ford F250 4X4, then looked at Seth. “I thought you and I were the only ones doing this mission.”

  “Mission? Are you twelve?”

  “You know what I meant.”

“Don’t get jealous. I need all the help I can get.”

“I ain’t fucking jealous. It just caught me off guard having your other pals coming with us.”

Seth laughed, knowing Barry’s feelings were hurt. “When you get done pouting, I have your disguise in the trailer. You need to put it on before we leave.”

  “Disguise?”

“Yeah. It’s so we won’t look suspicious.”

  “Is it something cool?”

“It’s hanging in the bathroom. Go put it on while I help Wyatt.”

Barry went into the RV. A few minutes later, he came back out and walked up to Seth as he was rolling up an electrical cord. “I didn’t see it. All that’s in there is a dress and a woman’s wig.”

  “That’s it.”

  He frowned. “You’re fucking joking.”

“No. That’s your disguise. And there’s also a bag in there that has some makeup, hose, shoes, a bra with fake tits, and a scarf to hide your collar.”

“What the fuck? Why do I have to wear that shit?”

“A man and woman traveling in an RV is less suspicious than two dudes.”

“I understand that, but why don’t you wear it?”

“I already have on my disguise.”

“No, you don’t. You’re just wearing a cowboy hat.”

  “My face is disguised.”

“Bullshit! You look just like you did the last time I saw you.”

Seth pointed to his own nose. “It’s a prosthetic.” He opened his eyes wide. “Colored contacts.” He rubbed a scar on his cheek. “This is fake.” He turned his head to the side. “I injected Botox into the masseter muscle on each side to contour my jawline.” He smiled. “My teeth have temporary caps.” He touched his right ear. “And I have prosthetic attachments that change the shape and size of my ears. And my skin tone has been slightly changed with a special dye.”

Barry looked confused. “Are you serious?”

  “Yep.”

He looked at Wyatt as he was raising a leveler. “He’s not wearing a disguise.”

“That’s because he’ll be in the back, and when I’m not driving, he will be.”

“Then let me drive and let that fucker wear the damn dress.”

“It’s too small for him. Missy specifically bought it in your size.”

“What the fuck? You must have planned this from the beginning. Is this payback for turning you in?”

“No. I made you torture those assholes and cut your dick off for that.”

“Why do you keep bringing that shit up? It’s embarrassing.”

“Listen, everyone has a specific role, so stop whining and do your part.”

“I still don’t want to wear that shit. I’ll look stupid.”

“Fine. I’ll call a cab and you can go back home.”

“Okay, okay! I’ll put the shit on. But how long do I have to wear it?”

  “Probably the whole time.”

He shook his head as he opened the door to the RV. “And you could have at least picked a better-looking dress.”

As he closed the door, Seth yelled out, “Make sure you shave your face! And don’t forget to wax your arms and legs!”

A few minutes later, Kenneth came driving up. Seth was sitting in the RV’s driver seat with the door open. Kenneth walked up and handed him a bag with his cigarettes and sodas. “Are we ready to roll?”

Seth set the bag beside his seat. “Yep. Just waiting on Barry.” Seth yelled towards the back of the RV. “Barry, hurry up! We have to get movin’!”

Wyatt came up to the front. “He’s done, but refuses to come out of the bathroom.”

“Tell that fucker to get his ass up here. We don’t have time to fuck around.”

Wyatt went back to the cargo area and started beating on the bathroom door. “Hey! Seth said get your ass up front! It’s time to go.”

Barry had a hateful expression when he opened the door. “This shit ain’t right.”

Wyatt wanted to laugh as he looked at Barry. He was wearing a blonde wig, knee-length floral-print dress, a red scarf around his neck, fake boobs, tan hose, large clip-on hoop earrings and flashy-silver sandals. His face was caked with foundation, cheeks covered with blush, and he was wearing so much eyeliner it looked as if he had used a Sharpie. He had gotten candy apple red lipstick outside his lip lines, causing him to look like a clown.

Seth shook his head when Barry sat in the passenger seat. “What the fuck? Who in the hell did your makeup?”

  “It doesn’t look that bad.”

“You look like a fucking prostitute. Get back there and redo it.”

  “Who gives a shit?”

“I do. I don’t want a damn cop pulling me over because he thinks I picked up a skank.”

Kenneth laughed. “Dude looks like a transvestite that got beat with the ugly stick.”

Barry glared at Seth. “This is fucked up! Why can’t Wyatt sit up here?”

“I’ve already told you that a man and woman look less suspicious.”

“I know. The dress might not fit him, but he can wear the wig and makeup.”

“I need him in the back.”

“Fuck him. Whatever he’s doing I can do it. His ass can be your flunky.”

Wyatt walked to the front. “Hold up! Don’t drag me into this shit!”

Barry glared at him. “I wasn’t talkin’ to you, prick!”

“Prick? What did I do to you?”

  “You’re breathing.”

  “Whatever, dude.” Wyatt walked away.

Barry yelled at him. “That’s right! Tuck your tail, boy!”

Seth started to get aggravated. “Calm down.”

“Then do what’s right.” Barry pointed at Kenneth. “He can sit up here.”

“He’s going to be driving his truck ahead of us to keep an eye out.”

“I want to do that. His black ass can be your slave.”

Kenneth walked around the front of the RV and tried to open the door. “Hey! Get your ass out here!”

Barry slightly rolled down the window. “What the fuck do you want?”

“Come out here and you’ll find out.”

  “You can kiss my ass.”

  “You’re a fucking punk!”

  “Screw you!”

Seth popped Barry in the arm with the back of his hand. “You need to chill the fuck out. You’re pissing everyone off!”

“You know he can sit here just like I can.”

  “He’d draw too much attention.”

  “That’s bullshit!”

“Stop trying to worm your way out of it. And go fix your damn makeup.”

“This is fucked up!” Barry shook his head as he went to the bathroom.

Kenneth came to the driver side. “I’m going to knock that fucker’s teeth out.”

“Don’t mind him. He’s an idiot.”

“Why is he coming on this trip anyway?”

“He has his purpose, so just try to ignore him.”

“You must have a good reason, but next time I’m going to punch out his fucking lights.”

Seth laughed. “I doubt that would do any good. He’s a hardheaded bastard.”

“Just make sure he stays away from me.

He looked at his watch. “Fuck. We need to get goin’.”

“Alright.” Kenneth got in his truck and drove off. Seth followed him out of the park and onto Highway 45, heading north to Dallas.

  The Village Idiot

A few miles down the road, Barry came back to the front. Seth noticed his makeup was toned down quite a bit. “Much better, but you’re still not going to win any beauty contests.”

Barry flopped in his seat, then threw his feet on the dash. “Where in the fuck are we goin’?”

Seth laughed. “You gonna act up the whole trip?”

“As long as I have to wear this shit, I am. And it’s not fair how you’re treating me.”

“You should have thought about that before you agreed to set me up.”

  Barry’s eyes got big. “What?”

  “I didn’t stutter.”

  “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Seth put a USB flash drive into the stereo. A few seconds later, a conversation between Barry and two other men started playing. Barry quickly pulled out the flash drive. He could feel the skin on his face heat up and turning red. “Oh shit! Where did you get this?”

Seth glared at him. “I have eyes and ears everywhere. You should know that better than anyone.”

  “It’s not what you think.”

“So, that wasn’t you telling two detectives how you could set me up because I’m your bitch?”

Barry tried to open his door, but it was locked. Horror overwhelmed him when he noticed the unlock button had been removed. He started getting upset as he looked at Seth. “Please don’t hurt me! They came to me. I… I wasn’t really going to turn you in! I was just bluffing.”

“You’re such a dumbass. You just don’t know when to keep your mouth shut.”

“What are you going to do?”

“Nothing.” Seth looked at Barry’s outfit. “Except for making you dress like a bitch since you act like one.”

Barry looked worried. “Is this it?”

“I can cut your dick off again.”

“Please don’t. I won’t gripe about wearing the dress anymore. Please just give me another chance.”

  “Just do your job.”

  “Are you mad at me?”

“Nope. I would have been disappointed if you weren’t the same assclown that I’m used to. And besides, you complete the group.”

  “What does that mean?”

“Missy is smart and rational, Wyatt is the good guy, Kenneth is the badass, and you’re the village idiot. Which isn’t a bad thing since you keep me entertained.”

Barry wanted to smart off, but he knew better. “You’re right. I deserve this. But I really wasn’t going to set you up. I swear.”

“I know. If I thought you were, I would have skinned you alive.”

“Then why are you punishing me?”

“For simply making the statement that you would.”

“Oh. How long have you known?”

  “Before you called me.”

“Then why did you let me come on this trip?”

“Like I said, you keep me entertained.”

  “So, are we good?”

“As long as you don’t try to pull something.”

Relief overcame him. “I won’t. I’ll be the best sidekick you’ve ever had.”

Laugher broke out from the back of the RV. Barry looked at Seth. “What the fuck is he laughing about?”

  “Probably you.”

“Why?” Did I say something funny?”

“I don’t fucking know. Ask him.”

Barry yelled out, “Wyatt! Get your ass up here!”

He was smiling as he walked up. “What do you want, narc?”

Barry looked at him with an aggravated expression. “What the fuck did you just call me?”

  “A tattle tale.”

  “You don’t know shit!”

“Whatever, dude. So, what the fuck do you want?”

  “Were you laughing at me?”

“I wasn’t laughing at you, I was laughing with you.”

“What the fuck does that mean?”

Wyatt spoke like a kid. “I’ll be the best sidekick you’ve ever had.”

Barry glared at him. “You need to mind your own business.”

“Then don’t be talkin’ so loud where everyone can hear your fantasies.”

  “Screw you! You’re just jealous.”

Wyatt laughed. “That’s funny, comin’ from a dude in a dress.”

Barry was so mad he started stuttering. “Fuck you, asshole! I’ll beat your ass!”

“Don’t get your panties in a wad. Seth will still let you suck his dick.”

Barry stood up. “You motherfucker! I’m going to….”

Seth hit the brakes, causing Barry to fall into the dash, and Wyatt into him. “Y’all chill out! We’re not in fuckin’ kindergarten!”

Wyatt started to walk off, but paused as he looked at Seth. “I can see why you called him the village idiot.”

Seth nodded towards the rear of the RV. “Get on back there before someone sees y’all acting like retards and we get pulled over.”

As Wyatt walked off, Barry yelled at him. “That’s right, boy! Take your ass to the back of the bus.”

Seth pointed to the passenger seat. “Sit your ass down before you get your ass kicked.”

Barry plopped in his seat. “That bitch couldn’t kick my ass if he tried.”

“When this trip is over, you two can beat the shit out of each other. But for now, everyone needs to do their job.”

“Speaking of jobs, what’s my part in all this? And don’t say wearing a fucking dress.”

“Wearing a fucking dress so we don’t look suspicious.”

“Dammit! I wish you would be serious for once.”

“I’ll let you know when the time comes.”

“So, you’re keeping everyone in the dark?”

  “No, they know their parts.”

  “That’s not fair.”

“You’re just too unpredictable. What else am I supposed to do?”

“That’s bullshit!” He pointed towards the back. “So, that fucker is predictable and I’m not?”

  “Yep.”

“What the fuck is his job besides siting back there eavesdropping?”

“Outside of helping with the scumbags, to drive the RV when I’m not.”

  “What about the black fucker?”

  “You mean Kenneth?”

“What other black fucker are you working with?”

“You’re just asking for a beatin’.”

“I’m not scared of his ass. And what makes him so special?”

“Right now, he’s staying ahead of us to keep an eye out for cops and traffic jams. If we get pulled over, he’ll come back and get the cop off our ass. He’ll also be rounding up scumbags since he likes the hunt more than the kill.”

“What do you mean he likes the hunt more than the kill?”

“Kenneth likes the adrenaline rush of hunting them, but not the torture end of it.”

“I’m not scared to do either one. And how in the fuck is he going to get a cop off our ass if we get pulled over?”

  “Whatever it takes.”

  “That’s not an answer.”

“I don’t know. Maybe he’ll wave his dick out the window.”

“Yeah, right. So, what about Missy?”

  “What about her?”

  “What’s her job?”

“She’s going to meet up with us later.”

  “For what?”

“She wants to help fuck up the sex offenders we’re rounding up between Lubbock and El Paso. Then after that, I’m not sure.”

“Really? She’s actually going to be a part of this?”

  “Of course.”

“You never cease to amaze me.”

“What the hell does that mean?”

“How you talk people into doing your dirty work.”

  Seth k
new Barry was just trying to push his buttons. “I didn’t talk anyone into shit. They volunteered to help since there’re so many scumbags.”

“And how many would that be?”

“I have files for seventy-five of them.”

“How in the fuck are we going to round up that many?”

“We’re not. We’re only going after the easier ones. And some of them will be locked up again before we have a chance to get them.”

“That’s still a lot. So, who is this person we’re working for?”

“We’re not working for anyone.” Seth explained the situation to him, leaving out Bill’s name and some of the sensitive details.

“So where are we going first?”

“The Dallas Fort Worth area to pick up Andrew Hall and Gus Morgan.”

  “Then where are we going?”

  “Down the road.”

  “I know that, but where?”

“You’ll see when we get there.”

“Did you not plan this out?”

“Naw. Too stupid. Just gonna drive around ‘til I find one or two of ‘em.”

  “I know better than that.”

“Of course, I’ve planned everything out.” Seth held up a map of Texas. “I’ve also marked our route on here. It has all the locations where we’re picking up scumbags.” He folded it up and stuck it in his shirt pocket.

  “Can I see it?”

  “You just did.”

  “Not very good.”

  “Good enough.”

  “You don’t trust me?”

  “Not at all.”

“Has Wyatt and Kenneth seen the map?”

  “They both have a copy.”

  “Of course, they do!”

  Beavis and Butt-Head

An hour later, Seth exited the highway about twenty minutes from Dallas and headed down a rural road. “Wyatt!” He yelled.

Wyatt walked up and stood between the seats. “What’s up?”

  “You ready?”

  “Yep.”

Barry looked confused. “Ready for what?”

Seth looked at him. “We’re meeting Kenneth a few miles down the road. I’m going with him to get Andrew and Gus while you and Wyatt drive to Denton. We’ll catch up with y’all later at Lucky’s RV Park.”

“When did you decide to do this?”

  “Oh.”
