“No. She would’ve come up here and killed you all over again.”

“I’m her family. I told you what happened.”

“I know. I won’t let anything happen to you or her. You know that, right?”

She turned her face up towards him.

“I know. You’ll always protect me.”

She reached up, brushing her fingers along his jaw. She was profoundly happy he was with her.

“I love you, Ella. Now and always.”

“Even though I did a stupid reckless thing like trying to fight my father myself?”

“Even when you do stupid things and put your life in danger, yes.”

“I doubt we’ll have to deal with any more threats like dear old dad again any time soon.”

  He raised an eyebrow.

“You never know… we still need to earn a living. Hell still needs bounty hunters and there’s one person, in particular, we need to track down.”

She stiffened. Valehal. They needed to find the fox and the artefact.

“It can wait though, right? We can deal with all of that when we get home and you speak to Finn.”

He smiled, brushing her hair out of her face.

“Of course, we need to rest after today. No need to think about it now.”

She shifted, sitting up before wrapping her arms around his neck as she turned towards him. She kissed him before resting her forehead against his.

“We need to be ready when the darkness comes.”

“I know.” His hand cupped her cheek. “We will. We’ll face it together. Whatever it is. Like your mother said, we’re humanity’s only hope.”

“Like that’s not a terrifying prospect. How can the two of us protect billions?”

“There are others, remember? We’ll find them.”

“Are you sure we can do this?”

Her hand curled around his neck, the other running up the back of his head.

“As long as we’re together, we can do anything.”

She smiled. He sounded so sincere. Her heart pounded in her chest. Lukas was her anchor in this world. They need each other.

  “I love you, Lukas.”

  “Sweetheart, you are my light.”

He kissed her. Her worries soon melted away as they held each other. Things would be okay as long as they had each other.

Thank you for reading this book. As an indie author, reviews are very important to me. I hope you consider leaving one if you enjoyed it.

This book was unexpected, yet so enjoyable to write. I fell in love with Ella and Lukas’ love story and I’m so excited that that it’s now out there in the world. I loved creating this world and I hope that when everyone reads the rest of the series, they fall in love with all the characters just as much as I have and continue to do.

I would firstly like to thank my best friends, who have given me the upmost support in my publishing journey. From picking me up off the floor when I was despairing over my writing abilities to always being there for me to bounce ideas off.

To my incredible Aunt, who without her support and encouragement, I would not be writing today. She inspired me to become a writer. I remember reading her regency romances when I was a teenager and falling in love with the depth of her characters and the world she built.

A huge thank you goes out to my parents and their partners, all four of whom have supported me through this journey.

And my final thank you goes to my husband, Steve. He is my world and never fails to tell me how proud he is of my achievements. He’s had to put up with me spending days on end hauled up with my laptop or my phone. For you, my love, I reserve my biggest thanks and appreciation. Without you in my life, I wouldn’t have had the push I needed to start my own publishing business.

  I love you always.
