“What I did with you this afternoon has been coming, no pun intended, for a long time. It would have happened a long time ago if you had let it.”

  “Yes, it would have.”

The fact that Adam didn’t try to deny it made her feel better albeit marginally. She turned, back-stepped a few paces as she flattened a hand on both of their chests, and stopped them. “If what I’ve done makes me a slut in your eyes, I’m sorry. I don’t regret being with either of you. I wanted both of you, I still do, and, if I hurt either one of you, I’m sorry for that, too.”

Both men reached for her. Their hands ended up bumping at the small of her back. She watched them exchanged a wordless look and then Adam splayed a hand on her back and Alec cupped her nape.

“You’re not a slut,” Adam told her softly.

“And I already told you neither of us thinks less of you because of what’s happened,” Alec added.

Their hands on her, especially at the same time, made it hard to think. She forced herself to, needing to get the thoughts ping-ponging in her head out of her mouth. She focused on Alec and did her best to ignore the way his fingers were tenderly kneading her neck muscles.

“You’re an FBI agent, aren’t you? I know Adam is,” she rushed on before he had a chance to speak. “I should’ve realized you were, too, when I told you about Lexie. Being abducted by a sex trafficking ring isn’t run-of-the-mill, even if it does happen more often than people realize. Most people would’ve been surprised, shocked, horrified, but you weren’t because something like that is run-of-the-mill in your world, in an FBI agent’s world.”

“I used to be,” Alec admitted. “Whether I still am or not is up for grabs.”

He was between careers. That’s what he’d told her last night. When she coupled that with what he’d said about not remembering a few seconds ago and the scars she knew he was dealing with inside and out, she believed she was starting to get a peek into what had happened to him.

Turning her attention to Adam, she said, “He is, or was, one of the agents on your team. Am I right?”

Adam nodded. “He was on an undercover assignment during Lexie’s case.”

“I was considered MIA back then,” Alec added.

Her hands were still at her sides, but she lifted one of them to Adam’s shoulder and slid the other one beneath Alec’s hair to cup his nape the same as he was still cupping hers. “Will you tell me about it? Can you? Not as a psychologist and patient, but as a man and a woman.”

His eyes closed as his broad shoulders rose and fell on a deep, slow breath. “Not here on the beach. Come back to my cottage and I’ll tell you what I can, what I can remember.”

Adam gave her back a gentle squeeze before letting his hand fall away as he took a full step back. He didn’t say a word, but she could see the torment and remorse in his eyes.

No! She didn’t want him to go. That wasn’t where she’d been headed with that question, but that was his intention. Before she could formulate the words to stop him, Alec spoke for her.

“I need you there, too, boss. You can fill in the blanks I can’t tell her.”

  * * * *

Alec led the way into his cottage with Jennifer and Adam following close at his heels. He left the door open for Adam to close and headed straight to the kitchen for another beer. He’d never had a drink during his sessions with all the doctors the bureau had sent him to, but spilling his guts to Jennifer was going to take all the liquid courage he could get.

“Do either of you want one?” he asked, poking his head through the doorway and gesturing with the can.

“Yes, please,” Jennifer answered at the same time Adam said, “No, thanks.”

Alec snagged another can from the fridge and joined Jennifer and Adam in the living room. Both of them were still standing near the closed front door. Adam’s arm was behind Jennifer, his hand obviously on her lower back. She’d admitted to sleeping with Adam today, admitted to wanting to do so for long time. He knew it should’ve bothered him. She had been his escape from the demons last night, the addiction he’d realized once she’d left him this morning.

  “Have you ever?”

The question she’d asked him last night and the conversation that had ensued reverberated in his mind as he moved closer to her and handed her the extra beer.

“Shared a woman with another man?”

  “No.”

  “Would you?”

“I’ve never really thought about it.”

Except, he had. Not before that conversation, but during it, when he’d realized that, despite the close-knit friendship he’d had with Jackson, Mallory, and Cameron before he’d accepted the assignment that had sealed his fate, Adam had become the closest man he could truly call a friend these days.

It was where they were headed, he realized as he tipped back his can and gulped down half the beer. They were on Silver Island. They wanted the same women, a woman who wanted both of them in return. If neither of them backed off…

“How much do you follow the news?” Alec asked Jennifer as he moved to the long sofa against the living room wall and sat. “How much have you heard about the Phay cartel?”

“She wouldn’t know much, even if she did follow the news,” Adam told him as he gently propelled Jennifer forward. “We kept most of what happened out of the headlines and what made it only hit the Silver Springs and Billings news.”

Jennifer walked faster than Adam, moving away from him as she rounded the coffee table in front of the sofa and perched on the edge. “Cartel? Are we talking drugs?”

“Narco-terrorism,” Alec corrected. “The Phay cartel was trading drugs for weapons and selling them off to the highest terrorist bidder. That’s how the FBI got involved. I was sent in to infiltrate the cartel, gain Phay’s trust, become one of them, and send information back to the FBI. It took me years to do it and, all that time, I was known in the cartel as Alec Veansa, born to a Vietnamese mother and an America soldier.”

“You forgot who you really were,” Jennifer said softly, understanding and compassion thick in her voice.

“I did.” Alec nodded and touched the scars on his face. “But not before this was done to me. I fucked up, blew my cover. I don’t honestly remember that, but it’s what happened.”

“Phay had a bone to pick with Silver Springs DEA team leader Michael Cosmos,” Adam chimed in as he took a seat on the opposite end of the sofa. “He had his men kidnap Rhonda Ramsey knowing it was the easiest way to get to him. At some point during that abduction, Alec’s cover was blown.”

“Phay ordered me to be killed,” Alec took over the conversational ballgame. He touched the scars on his face again before dropping his gaze to the missing pinky finger of his left hand. “I was tortured to the point that I lost my mind, my sense of who I was, my reasons for living. Boran Roumduol, one of Phay’s most trusted, pulled me from that. He saved my life, but he brainwashed me in the process. He led me to believe I really was Alec Veansa and groomed me to be his second-in-command when he attempted to rebuild the cartel after Phay was killed.”

“Roumduol began smuggling drugs into Silver Springs, using Veansa as the frontrunner.” Adam relaxed in the far corner of the sofa, stretched an arm across the back, and rested an ankle on the opposite knee. “Another sting operation was put into place, and one of my other agents, a man who was one of McIntyre’s closest friends went undercover. He faced off with Veansa and, when Veansa didn’t recognize him, that’s when we figured out Alec had amnesia.”

“Dissociative amnesia,” Jennifer said softly. “It stems from physical and psychological trauma.”

“That’s what the government doctors keep telling me.” Alec set his beer can on the end table and leaned forward, resting his forearms on his lower thighs. “So, now you know. I’m a mess, but one thing I can tell you is that being with you has made me feel more alive than I have in years. You’ve flipped some kind of switch in me, one that’s making me feel more like the man I think I used
to be. I think you’ve brought out more of the McIntyre in me.”

“You’re definitely acting more like him,” Adam agreed.

Alec cocked a brow at him. “Am I? Because one thing I’ve been trying to figure out is how McIntyre would handle this situation, and that extra pitcher of beer we drank didn’t help.”

  * * * *

No, it hadn’t. The situation in question was the same one Alec had pointed out at the bar. They both had the hots for the same woman. It wasn’t exactly how Adam would’ve put it, but he figured it was close enough to the truth. He wanted Jennifer, had finally allowed himself to have her, only to find out that Alec was in the picture, too.

“I’m not backing off.” He couldn’t. Now that he’d tasted her, touched her, felt himself surrounded by her, there was no way he could walk away. He’d even told her he wouldn’t. “I’m not asking you to, either.” And he knew exactly where that would lead them. “But you need to think hard about what you’re doing and the outcome.”

The outcome being that Adam and Jennifer would return to Waterston. Unless Alec changed his mind, he would be left behind. Adam saw the understanding of that in Alec’s eyes. He also saw the man’s unwillingness to back away.

“I know what I’m doing, and I’m aware of the outcome,” Alec assured him. “I’m also willing to try if you are.”

Adam considered that for a moment. “We’ve worked great together in the past. I don’t see why we can’t do it now.”

Alec grinned. “Yeah, but you were my boss then. This time, we’ll be on equal ground.”

  Adam chuckled. “Agreed.”

“Great!” Jennifer clapped her hands. “Now that the two of you seem to have that settled, I don’t suppose you guys want to clue me in on what you’re talking about.”

  “You,” Alec told her bluntly.

“And the wisdom of sharing you,” Adam added.

Jennifer’s eyes had widened to the size of saucers and her gaze was ping-ponging back and forth from Alec to Adam and back again. “Sharing me?”

“This island caters to ménages,” Alec reminded her. “We both want you. You said on the beach you still want both of us, too. Since neither of us is willing to walk away…”

She stood, rounded the coffee table, and started to pace. “And what happens when I leave the island? When Adam leaves, too?”

“That would be the outcome I suggested he think hard about,” Adam told her.

Alec got to his feet and went to her. Adam stiffened, straightened, but stayed on the sofa, jealously souring in his stomach as Alec pulled Jennifer into his arms.

“I don’t know what will happen.” Alec rested his forehead against hers. “All I know is when I’m with you my head clears, the past disappears, and I feel right. I’m not ready for that feeling to end.”

She tunneled her fingers in Alec’s hair, drawing a low moan from his throat. “Neither am I, but…” Alec lifted his head as she turned sideways in his embrace to face Adam. “What about you? You said when we return to Waterston you’re not going to be distant anymore.”

Adam took that as his cue to join them. Her gaze stayed locked with his as he closed in. Alec didn’t let her go but loosened his hold on her enough that she could fully turn in his arms until she was facing Adam.

Feeling awkward, needing to touch her, but unsure where with Alec’s arms around her middle, he put one of his hands on her hip and skimmed the knuckles of his other hand down her cheek. She flattened her hands on the front of his shoulders. One stayed there, while the other snaked around to cup his nape.

“I meant what I said. I’ve wasted too much time. Time I realize now I should’ve spent with you. I won’t be distant anymore, even while we’re on the island, even if it means sharing you with Alec.”

Alec nuzzled his face in the side of her neck. “Is that what you want, Jennifer?” The man nipped her earlobe, drawing a sultry moan from her lips. “Do you want us to share you?”

“Yes, but…” She had closed her eyes, and her voice had gone breathless. “I can’t think when you’re doing that.”

Following Alec’s lead because, hey, Adam wasn’t the boss in this situation, he leaned in and brushed his lips over hers. “Are you sure you want to think?”

“Mmm…” She danced her nails over his nape. “I’ll get back to that after a while.”

“Right now, you can concentrate on feeling instead.”

And so could Adam. He started by gliding the backs of his fingers along her jawline, stopped when he reached her chin, and gave it a gentle push. Her head fell back to rest on Alec’s chest. He met Alec’s gaze, took the man’s infinitesimal nod as a green light to continue, and angled his head to lick his way down her throat.

She laced her fingers in the back of his hair, attempted to fist the shorts strands, and settled for toying with them instead. Her touch, even so simple, electrified his soul. He traced the neckline of her shirt with the tip of his tongue, delved beneath the material, and licked his way over the swells of her breasts.

Adam hadn’t taken the time he’d wanted to with her in his room at the resort. He’d been too greedy, too needy to be inside her. He was still greedy and needy but in control enough, this time, to take things slower. He couldn’t lose his head, especially knowing he wasn’t alone in his efforts to pleasure her.

Alec proved he wouldn’t be forgotten, but would be an asset in their ultimate goal. Adam felt, more than saw, the man’s hands move to Jennifer’s sides, then felt the material of her shirt gather beneath his tongue.

Adam eased back, waited for Alec to pull her shirt over her head, and then returned to sampling her satiny flesh. When Alec aided him yet again by removing her bra, he gave the man a quick glance of gratitude, bent his knees slightly, and licked one taut nipple between his lips. He rolled it, nipped it, and sucked it until he felt her quiver between him and Alec. Not caring where Alec’s hands had wandered, he closed his on her sides, sensing he might have to hold her up when he felt her start to melt as he shifted his attention to her other breast.

Absently, he figured out where Alec’s hands had gone when he felt them move between Jennifer’s body and his as the man worked to remove her shorts. She was making sexy little moans, soft whimpers, and “Oh, oh, yes” sounds. And when Adam felt her lower body arch back against Alec as her breast thrust forward into his mouth, he knew the other man had found the hot, wet treasure between her legs.

Adam had been headed there, his mouth watering to feast on her pussy. His dick protested the need, feeling as if were about to burst with the demand to bury itself in the tight, soaked confines of her cunt. He would get to do both later, he told himself as he continued to pleasure her breasts. Right now, he and Alec would make her come this way.

She was almost there already. She scratched her nails along his nape, delved beneath the collar of his shirt, and dug into the flesh of his back. Her breaths were ragged and the sounds she was making were getting louder. Leaving Alec to hold her up, he lifted one hand to her breast as he licked and sucked on the other one. He flicked the pad of his thumb over that tight nipple, circled the pebbled flesh around it, and then caught it between his thumb and forefinger for a tender pinch.

“Oh, God. Oh, God. Oh, God.”

Adam had heard that chant before and knew exactly what it meant. She was coming. Her body tensed, her nails bit harder into his skin, and she cried out as she quivered violently between him and Alec.

Feeling her settle, hearing her attempts to calm her breaths, Adam slowly released her breast, let the other fall out of his mouth, and lifted his head to look at her. She was the perfect picture of a thoroughly pleasured woman with her eyes closed, her head resting on Alec’s chest, and her lips stretched in a beautiful smile.

“I think we worked pretty good together on that one,” Alec commented, his voice gruff and thick with his needs. “What do you say we try that again in the bedroom?”

Adam nodded. “You might want to wait until she can
walk before you move.”

  “Nah, I’ve got her.”

And, with that, Alec scooped a limp Jennifer into his arms and carried her to the bedroom, leaving Adam to follow at his heels.

  * * * *

Alec didn’t toss Jennifer onto the bed this time. Instead, he climbed onto it with her, gently laid her down, and stretched out beside her. She had lost track of Adam, but when she opened her eyes, she found him standing at the bedside looking down at her.

It was weird seeing him standing there, his gaze traveling over her as if he were drinking her in like his favorite beverage. Especially with Alec lying beside her, toying with the strands of her hair. This whole ménage thing was going to be more complicated than she’d thought. The men had come to the agreement so she wouldn’t have to choose between them. Except, what neither of them had realized was that she was still forced to choose.

Which man did she pleasure first? She knew there were at least two ways to be with both of them at once, but which man would want to be behind her while she straddled the other one, or which man would want to fuck her while she sucked the other one off?

Pushing the dilemma aside for now, she looked at each man in turn. “Why am I the only one naked here, gentlemen?”

Adam crawled onto the bed and lowered over her, his knees bracketing the outside of hers. “We’ll get to that,” he promised as he leaned down and captured her mouth in a scorching kiss that heated her blood to the temperature of molten lava and made her pussy wet all over again.

He lifted his head, and Alec’s mouth came down next, his lips grazing lightly over hers, his tongue tenderly delving inside as Adam shifted and wedged between her legs. Alec licked his way out of her mouth, his tongue painting a fiery trail to her breasts. Between her legs, she felt the warmth of Adam’s breath fan her pussy lips and then his mouth was on her most sensitive flesh.

  “Oh, wow.”

Pleasure, more intense and mind-blowing than what had accompanied the orgasm they’d given her in the living room swamped her. Alec had eaten her pussy more than once during their night together, and it had been beyond fantastic, but Adam…
