“It’s perfect.”

“I was wondering when I’d see the two lovebirds again!”
Within seconds, Lilly was around the bar and headed their way. She threw her arms out to Logan first, wrapping her in a quick hug before she did the same to Cole. “You guys have been back for three days, and you only just now come to see me?”
“I’m sorry, Lilly. Things have been a little crazy since we got back.”
“That’s all right, doll. I’m just glad to see you two. Come on over and I’ll get you two a drink, on the house.” Lilly led them from the door to the rebuilt bar, announcing their presence to everyone within earshot.
Wade’s was busy tonight. Country music blared over the speakers, and quite a few couples were dancing in the middle of the floor, while a group of guys started arguing over a game of pool that didn’t seem to be going their way.
Lilly put two beer bottles on the bar for them.
Cole took a long sip of his. “Lilly, my love, you always know just how to please a man.”
She leaned her elbows on the counter. “The two of us could always get out of here and really have a good time,” she teased.
“Oh, Lill.” He laughed, throwing his arm around Logan’s waist. “If I weren’t already a happily married man, I would definitely take you up on that.”
“Well, if you change your mind, you know where to find me.” Lilly winked playfully before moving on to another customer.
Logan and Cole proceeded to drink their beers, attempting to talk, but being interrupted as each and every one of the bar patrons took a second to greet them. Some were good with a simple welcome home or a wave. Others, like Big Lou, felt the need to hug them and tell them everything they’d missed.
“So now that you guys have tied the knot, are we ever going to get a winner?” Lou asked. He pointed at the wall behind the bar. There, framed in dark, charred wood and hanging for all the world to see, was the original section of chalkboard they’d been using as the scoreboard in their bet, one of the few things that had been salvaged after the fire. In neon green chalk, patrons could still find Cole and Logan’s names, each with the letters H-O-R-S underneath. No one in town knew what the last challenge of the bet was, only that they were still tied two years later.
Logan felt the warmth in her chest she got every time she saw the old scoreboard. “I wouldn’t bet on it, Lou.”
“As stubborn as this one is,” Cole told the listening crowd around them before smiling at her, “I plan on being tied with this woman for a very, very long time.”
