I want to throw my arms around him, and I know he feels it. He’s watching me, smiling.

The music changes and all eyes move once again to the door.

Janet appears like a vision. Her hair is swept up and away from her face, pinned back with a wreath of roses. Her dress is simple, white lace, body skimming, with a short train. While everyone’s eyes are on her, her gaze is on one.

Culebra meets her at the bottom of the porch steps. They embrace before turning to the officiant, a young human priest. The ceremony is short, both exchanging vows they wrote. Adelita takes her place, standing between them, arms interlinked. The priest blesses them and declares them a family.

I’ve never seen a more beautiful ceremony.

  I look up at Frey.

Except for the one that united us.
