“If you choose to think of it that way, then yes.”
I looked at my uncle, shook my head, and slapped him. He turned back to me with hatred—yes, unadulterated, pure hatred—in his eyes.
“That was a mistake, you little bitch,” he said. “I always knew my brother raised a brat.”
I tried to slap him again, but he blocked the attack and shoved me back on the bed.
“Men!” he shouted. “Hold her down. It’s time to call Brock and let him know where his precious lover is.”

I really thought during the phone call that Rick was going to shoot me. The fact that he raised a gun and even fired a bullet made it even worse. I didn’t see it as a warning shot; I saw it as a prelude for someone that I was quickly realizing was just a sociopath.
I knew my uncle well enough to know that he was no businessman. He wasn’t cunning. He wasn’t someone that sought market inefficiencies or did anything that any normal businessman did.
That was just something he said to make me feel better about myself, or maybe to throw me off track. No, he was just a monster. He probably saw a motorcycle club as the most effective way to control as many people as possible, and so he’d started one, only to run into trouble with the Savage Kings.
Unfortunately, he’d done a damn good job of hiding this activity from me and the rest of my family. I hadn’t even realized until this afternoon that my uncle was leading a rival club to the Savage Kings. This must have been what Brock was referring to. Did he know that my uncle was this evil?
Is it any wonder, if so, that he left me?
As soon as my uncle finished his phone call, he threw my phone as hard as he could against the wall, shattering it.
“You fucking bastard!” I yelled. “You’re going to kill me, aren’t you?”
My uncle turned, smiling with hauntingly evil eyes. There was no soul to those eyes. He looked more like a movie villain than he did a family member. How had I missed this for so long?
“I could, but then I would lose all of my future leverage over the Kings,” he said. “No, you’ll live as long as they’re around.”
But…
“But that doesn’t mean that we won’t do something to encourage Brock and Landon to hurry over here.”
He looked at the two men who had come in to hold me down and chuckled at them.
“If the Kings are not here in ten minutes, you can do whatever you want with her. I only request you keep her alive.”
“Uncle Rick!”
“Ten minutes, Heather,” Rick said with a wicked chuckle. “We’ll see how much Brock really loves you.”
With that, he walked out, slammed the door shut, and walked away.
I refused to look at the two men practically salivating at the chance to rape me. I believed that Brock would come.
I had no choice. My life depended on it.
Brock. Please. Please come. Please… save me.
I’m scared.
I need you.
