“Crysis?”
“He’s already gone back to join the Alliance to help rebuild the city.”
“Nikolai?”
“I…released him. He earned it. He should be with his family.”
She purses her perfect mouth, contemplating her options. She has none.
“Fine. But if you’re coming with me, no funny business. You will not lie to me. You will not try to mindfuck me. And you won’t question me about anything I may have to do. Got it?”
“Got it.”
Lucifer turns towards the door under the pretense of packing his own bag. Honestly, there’s nothing he truly needs. Only her.
“Luc?” Eden calls out before he hit the doorjamb.
“Yes?” He turns to face her, more eager than he intends.
“Uriel…he said I was part of your insurance plan. The most important piece to your puzzle that will bring ruin to the Earth in the event that Legion fails. What does that even mean? And what role do I play in all this?”
Lucifer’s violet eyes fall to the floor, his expression blank and his brutally cold guise sliding into place. He never meant to drag this out for as long as he did, but here they are. And either way he plays this, she may very well hate him for the rest of her days, however long that may be.
Still, she’d understand. She’d do anything for the people she loves. Maybe one day he’d be included in that category.
Maybe.
He fixes his face with a crooked grin, the one he knows makes her breath still and her cheeks heat against her will, then gazes up at her through hooded eyes churning with a thousand tiny galaxies.
“I’ll tell you on the way.”

I am so incredibly fortunate to have a team of amazing people in my corner. Next month (October 2017), I will celebrate five years of writing and publishing, and as cliché as it sounds, living out my dream. I am humbled that so many have stood by me through this journey. I could not have made it this far had it not been for their support.
Mo Sytsma: In so many ways, you are my better half. You are so much more than a PA. You’re my therapist, my beta reader, my publicist, my editor, and my friend. Thank you for not giving up on me over the years. Real talk, this ship would sink without you.
MAUD: Everything you all touch turns to gold. Thank you for seeing my vision and bringing it to life. Kristina and Steven Lowe, you both are beautiful inside and out, and I am so grateful to have you on the cover, as well as in my life.
Hang Le: Cover artist extraordinaire! There’s a reason why you’re one of the most sought after cover artists in the business. You get me. You know what I want even before I do. Your talent is boundless.
Stacey Blake: Once again, you have made my words and these pages absolutely gorgeous. You are a lovely soul, and I am so glad to know you and call you my friend. Thank you for putting up with my procrastination!
Susan Mika Reyes: You have such an amazing eye for beauty, and I am proud to have your work displayed on my books! Can’t wait to see you again so we can make some magic. I know incredible things are in store for you.
Kara Hildebrand: You are such a beautiful person, and I am so glad to have your eyes on this book, as well as several of my previous works. You never disappoint. Thank you for everything.
Christina Collie: All your bitching paid off! I finished! Thank you for pushing me everyday and offering your advice. You are a true friend.
Madeline Sheehan: Thank you for your amazing support. You have no idea how much you inspire and motivate me to keep going.
Rosa Saucedo: I know I did you sooo dirty, lol! But thank you! I needed you to keep pushing me. Feel free to berate me into writing books any time you like.
Sunny Borek: As usual, you’re always there when I need you, whether it’s to vent or request your beautiful edits. Thank you, friend.
Jonesin’ for S.L. Jennings and Unicorn Squad: If I could individually name every single one of you here, I would. You all are amazing. I would be nothing without your undying love and support. Unicorn kisses for all of you!
Bloggers and readers: This community is what it is because of you. You are woven in the pages of every book I’ve ever published. Thank you for reading and sharing my stories, and helping to breathe life into the characters we cherish so much.
My family: Number twelve is in the books, and it’s all because of you. It’s all FOR you. I love you.
