  She tersely nodded.

“King Cetic, I suggest you and Anubis have a chat before the next mothership arrives. I believe I have convinced her that Teardrop does not work; whether she can convince her superior officers is another matter. Perhaps there is a way that Airlia and human can work together or at the very least, enact a truce. Fighting between the two species does not assist in the purported goal of stopping the Swarm.”

Cetic cut in. “We need your weapon at Wormehill to—” but Arcturus cut him off.

“You need to listen with clean ears, King, but they are muddy.” Arcturus nodded for Leahy to speak. She stood. “Yakov, I already know what you desire and--”

Yakov cut her off. “Back to Earth. Find Turcotte. I do not believe he is dead. Find Nosferatu and Nekhbet. And rescue the metabols in the Facility.”

“As I was saying,” Leahy said, “I know what you want to do. It is your ship to do as you please.”

“I’ll need your help to get back there,” Yakov said. “You got us here.”

“And I will go with you,” Leahy said. “My assignment was to Earth so I must return. But there are passengers on the mothership. The Chosen.”

Yakov smiled and pointed at the ground. “They wanted a world to live in.” He addressed Cetic. “Would you accept four thousand very bright and strong children to your kingdom?”

Cetic was still glaring at Arcturus for refusing the weapon. He tersely nodded. “Yes.”

“And the Walkers?” Arcturus asked. “Your assignment was here. Is it over?”

“Not if an Airlia mothership is inbound,” Markus said.

Bren glanced at Anubis. “The future is uncertain. Perhaps some sort of truce can be negotiated, but I am not optimistic. It is likely the war will continue.”

“We will win in the end,” Markus said.

  “Will you?” Arcturus said. “Moroi?”

“I desire peace,” she said. “Brother?” she asked Orlock.

The elder nodded. “I too, desire peace. Perhaps we can be the bridge between human and Airlia to bring that about.”

“Very good,” Arcturus said. He moved on. “Drusa. You were with the Great Alliance but not part of it. Have you heard the questions you came north to hear?”

Drusa stepped forward, her blue cloak dirty. “I didn’t what they were so I can’t know if they’ve all been asked. You’ve given the hints of a few answers. I wish to know more.” She addressed Yakov. “May I come with you?”

  LIONS HEAD, ATLANTIS, EARTH15

The mothership rose from the space field outside Seventh Wall, watched by tens of thousands of humans and the handful of Nagil and Airlia. The five thousand Chosen and their Mentors were gathered to one side, along with Mrs. Parrish. The leaders of humans, Nagil and Airlia were in the Citadel-Tower trying to negotiate a truce that could easily be ignored by the commander on the inbound mothership.

Drusa was on board the mothership with Leahy, Yakov, and Maria and George.

  WORMEHILL TOWER, EARTH15

Arcturus watched the departure via the Tesla guardian deep under Wormehill. He checked to the south, saw Isengrim in the treeline observing the ship. When it was gone, Isengrim turned and disappeared in the trees, heading south to join the rest of her pack.

He then cycled the Tesla coil into a shield wall around the entire complex. It would withstand anything the Airlia, or humans, could attempt to try and break through.

He went to one of the vertical tubes, opened it, and stepped inside. The front swung shut. The air inside crackled with energy and Arcturus closed his eyes.

  Even machines get tired.

  THE LIFE CORE

SWARM LIFE CORE, INTERSTELLAR, FASTER THAN LIGHT TRANSIT

Kray picked up a handful of dirt and showed it to Lina. “This is good soil. There are plants I recognize we can harvest.” He pointed at a ribbon of blue, slightly above them on the curvature. “There is water.” He turned to Lina and put his hands on her shoulders. “We can live. That is all that is important. Come. Let us pick a spot and make it home.”

The Story of Our Earth Vs. the Airlia

Aliens, called Airlia, came to this solar system over 10,000 years ago. They established their headquarters on an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean that they called Atlantis. They were an outpost in their ongoing war against a species known as the Ancient Enemy, or more concisely, the Swarm.

The leader at Atlantis was Aspasia. After time passed, he felt secure from the interstellar war and stopped reporting to the Empire. A force was sent, led by Artad, to determine what had happened. In the meanwhile, two humans from another Airlia colony, Donnchadh (who would be known as Duncan) and Gwalcmai, where the people had instigated a successful revolt against their Airlia overlords, arrived on board a small spacecraft, the Fynbar, after being dropped outside the Solar System by a commandeered mothership. They helped sow the seeds of a Civil War between Artad and Aspasia.

Atlantis was destroyed and Aspasia and his followers were banished to a base on Mars. Artad established his base at Qian-Ling in China where he ruled as the first Emperor. Other of his followers established the First Dynasty in Egypt, where Airlia ruled over men. During that reign, half-breeds, the spawn of Airlia and human consorts, were born. These became known in human legend as the Undead.

A covert civil war was fought through the ages by various agents of both sides, both humans and otherwise, until it exploded into World War III when an attempt was made by corrupted humans to fly Artad’s mothership, hidden at Area 51. The details of all of this are in prior books, with Book 1 in the series covering the attempt to fly that mothership and why it had to be stopped at all cost, because engaging an FTLT drive would draw the attention of the Ancient Enemy.

Humans succeeded in defeating both Artad, Aspasia and their corrupt followers, but that didn’t end World War III.

(A lot of other stuff happened over the course of nine books, such as King Arthur, the Great Wall of China, Jack the Ripper, ancient Egypt, an attempt at a second Black Death, etc. etc. but you get the drift).

When Atlantis fell, Duncan and her mate, founded a small group of humans called Watchers. Their mission was to keep tabs on the Airlia and their minions throughout the ages. To watch and wait. A splinter segment of Watchers broke off led by the man known in legend as Merlin: the Myrddin. This group was determined to do more than watch. They believed their mission was to insure the survival of mankind.

Now you know there was more to it all than this.
